The Green Party says an increase in pokies is no harm minimisation plan, as National is suggesting.

Greens' gambling spokeswoman Denise Roche said the Government's plan to greatly increase the number of pokies at SkyCity is being falsely sold by John Key as a some sort of harm minimisation plan.

The Prime Minister told TVNZ's Breakfast programme this morning that 483 pokie machines in New Zealand would be decommissioned this year, and that Sky City would not be getting up to 500 new machines.

ECOGRA is an organization independently promoting the protection of players and industry standards. Established in 2003, the group has gained a lot of experience in the testing, reviewing and monitoring of various online casinos and gambling firms around the globe. Italy accredited them as a testing agency for their jurisdiction when the government liberalized online gambling a short time ago. ECOGRA has received the same status from the soon to be operational Spanish jurisdiction.

Playtech has been a longstanding name in the online gaming industry. Providing software and services for some the internet's largest casinos. The company is growing by leaps and bounds, showing no signs of stopping any time soon.

Beyond Playtech's reported revenues of €75.1 million for the first quarter of 2012, the brand had entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding with intent to potentially acquire various businesses and assets to the tune of €95 million from bodies linked to Teddy Sagi, the company's largest shareholder. However, this morning the London Stock exchange announce the memorandum had been amended by Playtech, forgoing acquisition to instead enter a software license agreement concerning the aforementioned assets.

For Simon Cowell, the race to fill the two judging spots, as well as the role of host, on the second season of The X Factor may have more suspense than the actual show, which begins to air in September. The variety of names that we’ve heard in regards to this role have been all over the place but he may have found who he wants to sit beside himself and L.A. Reid.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet X Factor!

Britney Spears is the only person to have locked down a spot and even that hasn’t been confirmed by either side, although a $15 million price tag for one year has surely secured Spears. The rumors for the other spot have been flying with names like the late Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry as just a few of the names that Cowell has allegedly pursued, along with LeAnn Rimes and Avril Lavigne. Cowell is reportedly also trying to land Adele, who dominated the Grammys and is the “It Girl” right now in pop music.

X Factor USA - Season 2 - Who will win?
Male +120
Female EVEN
Group +400

However, two more names are in the ring as teen star Demi Lovato and soul icon Chaka Khan are reportedly in the mix, and Lovato is all but a done deal, depending on who you believe. This certainly brings in the younger demographic for Cowell, but don’t count out Khan, who has over 40 years of experience in the show-business industry and could teach new performers coming in a thing or two. Khan really wants the role of judge on The X Factor and has reached out to Cowell, but there is no word yet on what the Englishman’s response would be, so stay tuned to the ever-changing list of names that will pop up to judge The X Factor this season.

Online gambling firm bwin.party has struck an agreement with casino operators in California as it gets ready for the 'inevitable' legalisation of Internet betting in the state.

The company said it had struck a deal with the United Auburn Indian Community ('UAIC'), which owns and operates the Thunder Valley Casino Resort near Sacramento, California.

The formal agreement will see bwin offering online poker services in California if suitable intrastate legislation is enacted there.

The law governing Internet gambling is somewhat confused in the USA, but it is generally held that the Federal Wire Act, which bans electronic transmission of information for sports betting across telecommunications lines, effectively makes online gambling illegal.

In February, two senators introduced draft legislation to regulate online gaming within California.

I warned you here two months ago that “budget season” would dominate Trenton statehouse politics for quite some time, at the expense of almost everything else – including efforts to legalize online gaming in New Jersey.

But the state Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee will finally hold a hearing on the bill on Thursday – along with bills related to allowing simulcast betting at the currently-dormant American Dream Meadowlands entertainment and shopping complex; bingo licensing; and use of handheld mobile devices to place bet at state racetracks.

This hearing is a followup to one in March that produced an interesting result.

Betting on single pro games, which will soon be legal in Canada, should help fund major pro sports venues

There’s a rare moment of opportunity for Premier Alison Redford on the Edmonton arena file.

In essence, Redford has the opportunity to shift tens of millions of dollars away from organized crime and off-shore betting sites towards the construction of major, government-owned sports facilities.

How so? Redford would take two excellent new ideas related to gambling and government revenues — one from Wildrose leader Danielle Smith, the other from federal New Democrat MP Joe Comartin of Windsor — and combine them, creating a gambling venture based on betting on single pro sports matches, mainly NHL games.

Minnesota Vikings fans would pay user fees under a revised Senate bill to construct a stadium debated Tuesday.

Many senators, especially conservative Republicans, prefer expanding those fees to all users of a new stadium or finding other funding sources to eliminate the need for gambling to support construction.

Project funding dominated much of Tuesday‚s Senate stadium debate. That debate continued at press time.

Senators proposed new funding options ranging from building a Twin Cities casino to collecting fees by legalizing fireworks.

After a long and arduous Republican Party race in which Massachusetts’ Mitt Romney finally secured the GOP’s nomination, the general election trail can begin and that means media outlets can start to release the results of polls that they feel will give you an idea of how the American public feels.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet on politics today.

One poll shows that President Obama holds a 2% lead over Romney overall with the battle ground states appearing to be Wisconsin, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and New Mexico. In March, President Obama held a 9% lead in the same poll, but the Republicans hadn’t even decided on who would run against the current President, which certainly affected the way people voted.

There were a number of questions asked in this poll, and one focused on the economy: Romney held a 3% edge over the President when citizens were asked who would do a better job on the economy, but when it comes to likeability, there is no contest. President Obama holds a lead of 27% in that category heading into the election trail and the leader for that question has gone on to victory in the past seven elections.

2012 US Presidential Election - Winning Party
Democrats -210
Republicans +170

Another poll shows that President Obama has a 10% lead when Americans were asked which man would be more apt to work towards their beliefs and that will be a key aspect of this election. While the issues are a huge part of this process, many people just want a President that they feel they could relate to and President Obama has done an excellent job of drawing the younger vote, while Romney has trailed in that regard. He’ll have to work on if he plans on putting the Republicans back in the White House in November.

India could be missing out on as much as $1.5 billion in lost tax revenue by not regulating online gambling. This is the conclusion reached in an in-depth report conducted and published by OnlineCasino.in, a leading online casino portal.

Despite a booming middle class and a rapidly expanding internet userbase, only the state of Sikkim has made any meaningful efforts to regulate online gambling in India. On a national level, there seems to be little desire to regulate this lucrative market -- even though an ever-increasing number of Indians gamble online.

$1.5 billion wasted

On Wednesday, the American Gaming Association — the industry’s top lobbying group — released its annual report on the state of commercial gaming in the U.S.

In the report, a survey was conducted to see what forms of gaming Americans participated in over the past year. In 2011, four percent of respondents said they placed a wager on the Internet — up from one percent in 2010.

Online poker was the target of the Department of Justice in April 2011, when the three major offshore operators at the time were accused of gambling-related crimes. Their respective businesses were shutdown in American cyberspace.

Despite depicting an increase, the AGA remains cautious with the data.

In order to quell the speculation that has been going around in the industry, the Spanish government's home affairs and administration ministry announced this week that the national online gambling regulator Enrique Alejo would meet the current scheduled date of June 1 2012 for issuing licenses to suitable applicants. The reasons for the doubt that the regulatory framework would be in place as indicated were many and included changes in staff changes, extension of earlier deadline of April 2012, litigation from online gambling operators like Codere and the large number of applications that are under process. It has been reported that more than 59 applications have been received. The announcement clarified two other things. Once the licenses are issued the online gambling services can commence immediately. In-play betting will not be allowed, at least for now.

Kim Kardashian couldn’t stay out of the news if she tried, so it’s probably a good thing that she doesn’t try. The reality television star/socialite always seems to be making headlines for something and after her first failed marriage that spawned many jokes by everyone from late-night talk-show hosts to the President of the United States, Kardashian is back in the dating scene and it’s with someone who can rival her in regards to ego.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet Entertainment Props!

After her 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries (which he is requesting to get annulled), Kardashian started dating musician Kanye West, who is known for being an enigmatic, but incredibly talented hip-hop artist who has created a number of critically-acclaimed and award-winning albums, and he is also trying to break into the worlds of art and fashion. The two began a whirlwind relationship not too long ago, but it’s reportedly getting heavy quick and sources say the two would like to get married and start having children as quickly as possible. This has sparked the sportsbooks to put together a prop on a Kardashian/West engagement in 2012, with “yes” coming in at +110 and “no” at -150.

Will Kim Kardashian and Kanye West get engaged in 2012?
Yes +110
No -150

Those lines sound about right as both are quite impulsive and both crave the media spotlight that their marriage would bring. We know Kardashian will get married at the drop of a dime, while West is essentially family to super-couple Jay-Z and Beyonce, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that he wants that type of relationship. These two would, strangely, be a good match for each other…for a few years anyway. A bet on the “yes” side wouldn’t make you crazy.

The legalization of Internet wagers cleared the state Assembly’s gambling committee Thursday morning, as lawmakers race to make New Jersey the first state that allows Internet betting.

“We want to take the lead,” said Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, a sponsor of the Senate bill. “We don’t want Nevada to take the lead.”

Lesniak said the state has already lost out on about $200 million because of Gov. Chris Christie’s 2011 veto on Internet gambling.

MGM Resorts International will launch a casino-themed Internet game by June, James Murren, chairman of MGM Resorts International, said at Thursday’s Southern Gaming Summit at the Coast Convention Center.

He called it “Casino Mogul” but said MGM and its partners haven’t decided yet on the name.

The game will be similar to Farmville and other social media games and provide a perfect Las Vegas, which he told the crowd means Vegas will have only MGM properties.

The 14th season of Dancing With The Stars is down to their final four contestants after a double-elimination week, and the two that came into the week with the worst odds went home to no one’s surprise.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet Dancing With The Stars!

Former Little House on the Prairie actress Melissa Gilbert and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, along with Disney star Roshon Fegan and partner Chelsie Hightower, entered the “Trio Challenge” week with odds of 60/1 and 75/1, respectively, so it was expected when they landed in the bottom three. But the shocker was that they were joined in jeopardy by classical singer Katherine Jenkins (9/5) and Mark Ballas, as they had received the high score in five of the first seven weeks of the competition. But in the end, it was Gilbert (on her 48th birthday) and Fegan who got their walking papers and Jenkins will go on to the semifinals next week. It was a long time coming for Fegan, who had almost been eliminated twice.

The high score of this week went to Telenovela star William Levy (7/2) and Cheryl Burke, who put up a 57, while Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver (19/10) and partner Peta Murgatroyd, and Extra host Maria Menounos (3/1) alongside Derek Hough, will make it to the final four.

This also of course includes Jenkins and Ballas, who have stumbled in their past two performances and allowing the rest of the field to get back into the competition. The pair were running away with it and still should be considered the favorites going into next week’s lines, but there is no margin for error now with only four couples left on Dancing With The Stars, so expect the intensity to go up a notch over the next few episodes.

New Jersey is looking to become the first state to legalize online gambling after a State Assembly panel yesterday approved a bill allowing Internet wagers despite Governor Christie’s veto of a similar bill sometime last year. NJ Senator Raymond Lesniak has expressed interest in legalizing online betting before the state of Nevada does..

According to supporters, the final passage of this bill would bring in $300-$400 million in additional revenue to the state, much of which would come from licenses that cost about $200,000 for casinos. A portion of this would go towards programs to aid problem gamblers. This is similar to legislation that passed last month in the NJ Senate.

The Press of Atlantic City notes, however, that even once the bill is passed, participants would have to wait another nine months before they can begin placing bets. Also, licenses are limited to only casinos whose servers are located in Atlantic City. One of the other main concerns is that the growth in casino gambling will be offset by a decline in horse race bets, thus producing little benefit.
