When the final table of the PokerStars North American Poker Tour Los Angeles $5,000 no-limit hold’em main event began it appeared that a heads-up showdown between chip leader Christopher DeMaci and Team PokerStars pro Jason Mercier was imminent. Joe Tehan had other ideas though, and by the end of the night he had eliminated both DeMaci and Mercier, as well as every other player at the final table.

It was an impressive performance from the 30-year-old professional poker player and he took home the top prize worth $725,000. He now holds more than $3 million in career earnings, and he adds an NAPT title to his trophy case, which already holds a World Poker Tour title that he captured in 2006 at the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship.

The final table began slow, but Tehan took the chip lead after taking out Jake Toole in eighth place, and he increased it to more than 9 million after busting Mercier in seventh place. Tehan was looking like a lock after he scored a double elimination and took out both Ray Henson (fifth place) and Team PokerStars Canada pro Anh Van Nguyen (fourth place) in one hand. He still had to battle for a while against DeMaci in a heads-up match that began after the dinner break, but he eventually claimed his seventh elimination of the night to become an NAPT champion.

A new collusion threat has come to light at PokerStars.com, leading the leading US facing online poker room to place heavy restrictions on players from China. PokerStars issued a statement to all of its registered Chinese players, announcing that, effective immediately, one player from their region would be allowed to site at any given ring game table at a time. That means that if there is already a registered Chinese player sitting at a ring table, another will not be allowed to join until the first leaves the game.

It was in August this year that PokerStars unraveled a massive collusion ring running at the site, forcing it to make the affair public and pay out over $2 million in damages and compensation to innocent players that were affected by the ring.

The latest drastic moves were put into place by PokerStars very recently, although it is not sure what prompted them. It could be that it is simply a proactive decision by the site to prevent a repeat of the events from summer, or it could be that the site has picked up on a new collusion ring.

The statement issued by PokerStars to its Chinese players reads as follows:

“PokerStars.com has introduced a new security feature that prevents players from certain countries playing at the same ring game table.”

“This restriction means that only one player from each of these countries is able to play at the same ring game table. You are able to play at any ring game table you wish but once you are seated no other player from your country will be able to join the table. Similarly, if another player from your country is seated, you will be unable to join that table until they leave.

“We regret the inconvenience that this has caused you but this policy has been implemented to enhance the integrity of the games.”

Full Tilt Poker Rush Mobile is available now for devices that have Android 2.2 and support Flash 10.1. Rumours are circulating that Phil Hellmuth could be leaving sponsors UB.com.

The 11-time bracelet winner was seen at the recent PokerStars North American Poker Tour without any UB logos. He instead wore Aria and WSOP Academy patches for the televised event, leading to speculation that he could be set to part ways with the online poker room. His affiliation with Aria stretches back to a discussion he had with their president Bill McBeath, during which he agreed to wear their logo on the side of his hat for a year, whenever possible.

UB.com have since stated that Hellmuth is still currently one of their sponsored pros and indeed he is still listed as such on their website, but this hasn’t stopped talk as to where he might move should his departure be confirmed. Poker reported B.J. Nemeth says that Hellmuth was also seen without logos during a taping of Poker After Dark, but commented on his blog that he couldn’t see the ‘Poker Brat’ moving to either PokerStars or Full Tilt. “Neither of the two big sites in the U.S. really seem like a great match for Hellmuth,” he wrote. “Sure, he’d be an asset, but he doesn’t really match up with their current marketing, and Hellmuth, as we know, always likes to be featured front and center – something that wouldn’t happen at either Stars or Tilt.”

Nemeth added that he could perhaps see Hellmuth moving to WSOP.com. “I’ve contended before that one of the first sites likely to pass the Commerce Department’s regulation board would be WSOP.com. Harrah’s has done everything ‘right’ in terms of respecting the UIGEA, and as a corporation, they already have legal and regulated casinos scattered around the United States,” he said.

The end of the year typically sees a big rush at the high-stakes online poker tables, and although this November has had nowhere near the multi-million dollar swings we witnessed last year when Isildur1 made his appearance at the nosebleed tables on Full Tilt Poker, the action has been picking up as the year 2010 comes to a close and poker pros try to pad their winnings or get out of the red.

One player who is looking to turn his 2010 completely around is Gus Hansen, who up until a month ago was down over $3 million –add this to the over $5 million the Dane lost at the online poker tables last year and a disturbing trend was forming. However, since mid-October Hansen has been practically unbeatable and has wiped over $2 million of his losses off his books. Hansen is now down less than $1 million for the year, a number Gus would surely be happy to end the year with.

Also making a late push is Patrik Antonius, who just finished up a massive $500,000 win against ‘IHateJuice’ on the $2k/$4k Limit Holdem tables. Antonius is now up roughly $1.5 million for the year.

Going in the opposite direction is Finnish sensation Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies, who after a fast start has been on a terrible downswing that has left him down over $1.8 million for the year.

Party Poker just got a green light from New Jersey: for the first time ever, the state passed, thorough a legislative branch in the United States, a bill that would license and regulate poker online. Even better news for pokerstars who play poker online, the New Jersey State Senate passed the Internet gambling bill on Monday by a stunning 29-5 margin.

According to Joe Brennan Jr., chairman of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association, the state of New Jersey is very serious about the online gambling legislation. Brennan added that New Jersey aims to be the capital of this industry in the United States, and being the first ones to pass a law in this regards, they can make a legitimate claim. However, the bill awaits approval from the New Jersey Assembly and has to be signed by Gov. Chris Christie before it would become a law. Still, it is an important step towards the first officially legal online poker.

The Atlantic City casinos would host the intrastate poker sites, and within the U.S., only pokerstars in New Jersey would be able to participate. Sen. Raymond Lesniak, also a bill sponsor, added an amendment aiming to allow people outside the U.S. to open an account through the NJ casino poker sites, potentially creating a larger player pool.

The online gambling bill first passed through the New Jersey Senate gaming committee in April, and through the Senate budget committee just last week. Brennan expects the Assembly gaming and budget committees to hold hearings to have testimony on the Internet gambling topic, but says votes would not be required if the Assembly chooses to adopt the Senate bill.

Kent Lundmark topped a 758-player field at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona to become the sixth Swedish EPT champion.

The 22-year-old’s final obstacle was Spain’s Jesus Marquez Lizano as the two went head-to-head for the last stand with 12 million in chips each. An hour and 20 minutes later, Lundmark walked away from the biggest poker tournament ever held in Spain with the title, the trophy, and the €825,000 top prize.

Lizano received €525,000 for second place, but his result created a new record for Spanish players on the EPT, with the previous record belonging to Santiago Terrazas who finished third at the same event in season six.

The seventh and penultimate day of the PokerStars.net APCOOP brought us two winners; one of which was collecting his second crown!

Although there was some initial confusion over the exact events to take place on a predominately wet day in Australia, there was no doubting that the Asia Pacific Championships of Online Poker has been a hit for the casual players in the Asia Pacific region.

Originally structured as a $22 H.O.R.S.E tournament to please the many mix-game enthusiasts that grace the PokerNetwork forums, such as TurnRiva, thret and yours truly, it appeared that an alternative mixed game would be the replacement. Some view it as a dying game, Hof however barracked hard for the opposing side, stating in the forums that, “DRAW [is played] by 250,000 Aussies anywhere there is a blanket, card table and a deck of Queen Slippers!”

Unfortunately 249,908 of those players opted for the brick-and-mortar variety of the game as only ninety-two players fronted up for one of the last real poker games in existence.

With two wins in the PokerStars USA Championship of Online Poker (USA COOP), poker pro David “gaucho2121” Paredes had an online series to remember.

The New York native won event No. 5 ($200+$15 no-limit hold’em heads-up) for $25,000 and followed up the performance with a victory in event No. 10 ($300+$20 pot-limit Omaha 1R+1A) for $32,444 just four days later.

The tournament series, which consisted of 11 events with a combined guaranteed prize pool of $3,275,000, was exclusive to residents of the United States and part of the PokerStars Regional Championship of Online Poker (RCOOP) schedule.

At the time of this article’s release (noon PST), the $1 million guarantee main event was on break. The action is scheduled to resume at 3 p.m. with 94 players remaining. Notables still left include 2009 Card Player Online Player of the Year Steve “gboro780” Gross, who is currently in the middle of the pack with slightly below the chip average, and David “WhooooKidd” Baker, currently healthy in 20th chip position. The winner will take home $164,050.

Regardless of what happens in the main event, the USA COOP has been headlined by the pros. Besides Paredes, other winners of events include Dane “WatchTheSea” Miller and Christina “lindeyloo22” Lindley.

PS has signed Isildur1 and the mystery wiil be over as they are going to announce his identity soon...Meanwhile, he has been playing the $25/$50 Omaha games on the site. Some online railbirds said he wasn't doing too well at the tables but those are microstakes for him, lol.
