Lakesha C. Johnson, 27, was sentenced to 18 months probation by a Chicago judge for stealing $9,000 from a poker player in February of last year. Lake County prosecutor Bernard Carter stated that she'll be paying $9,000 in restitution and performing 90 hours of community service as part of her punishment. Johnson failed to appear at the trial.
What happened? A poker pro playing at the Horseshoe Casino met and began to flirt with Johnson, who played with him for a couple of hours. After cashing out, the duo had breakfast and opted to go back to his hotel room for some recreational activities of the nude kind. They stopped to buy gum and condoms (clearly, he wasn't as prepared for this eventuality as he should have been) and commenced to doing what two consenting adults frequently do.
The problem is, the poker pro (who has gone nameless in all police reports and media coverage) woke up alone at around 9:30 AM and the $9,000 he'd won was gone, hence Johnson's subsequent capture and sentencing. The maximum sentence for Johnson was 3 years incarceration, but it's apparent that there was a plea bargain, considering her non-appearance in court.

Day two of the World Poker Tour London Classic wrapped up late yesterday and 39 players were left to take it to day three. 171 players entered the tournament, creating a massive prize pool of over Β£800,000 with the first-place winner walking away with nearly a quarter of a million pounds. While Erik Seidel and Phil Ivey were heavily feted to go the distance, both of the players were eliminated in the second day, when competition got especially fierce.
British player Luke Schwartz held the top spot for the majority of the day, at least until late in level 12 when he went in heavy while holding KK against William Martin's QQ. A queen dropped on the flop and Schwartz's descent was hard and fast, dropping the player below the six-figure mark into 30th place as day 2 wrapped up. Undeniably I would have to say Stu Ungar, even though I'm not sure how developed he was in games other than hold'em. He's the only player to have won the main event 3 times... its really sad that he never got to even see the poker boom, I think he would have mopped the floor with the dead money, maybe even made enough at once that even he couldnt gamble/give it away...

Players enjoying a lively home poker game in Sayville, Long Island had some unwanted visitors from North Bellmore early Saturday morning according to Suffolk County police. Seven people were playing Texas Hold "em inside a home an Greenbrier Lane when two suspects knocked on the side door at 2:15 A.M. Naturally, the homeowner was reticent to let in two young men that he didn't know at such an hour, but they made their intentions clear by forcing their way into the home and brandishing "what appeared to be a knife and gun," according to police reports.
Key Martinez (17) and Bryan Urena (18) demanded the group's cash, keys and cell phones. After receiving those items from the assembled poker players, they bolted from the house. The homeowner called 911 quickly, and officers soon apprehended the duo. They were charged with both burglary and robbery. Why two charges? Burglary is breaking-and-entering with intent (which the duo did when they forced their way in) while robbery covers the weapons-and-threatening end of charges. They were arraigned on Sunday morning at the First District Court in Central Islip.

I know a lot of people played poker before it came televised. i have started 3years before hand but since i have opened up my game and listening watch has really stepped up my game. i would like to know if has helped anyone else...
The problem with TV poker is.......it's edited for TV. Don't try and use this to improve your poker game. They cut out all the play that had no entertainment value and only show the "action hands"
Justin Smith finally scored the first-place finish he's been working for at the World Poker Tour London Poker Classic High Roller event, hosted at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair. The event brought out some of the best and brightest in the poker scene and while it may sound like a snap to take on a field of 20 players, the fact that they offered up Β£15,000 each for a buy-in and only the top three spots paid out meant that every hand and every hand was hard-fought. Among those participating in the high roller event were 2009 WSOP Player of the Year Jeffrey Lisandro, former World Champion Huck Seed and French poker legend Bruno Fitoussi.
At the end of the first day, a dozen players had been eliminated, leaving only the final table for the next day's festivities. At the time, Philip Gruissem was the chip leader with Fitoussi, Jason Lester, Tony "G" (Antanas Gouga,) Jason Gray, Justin Smith, Freddy Deeb and Emeline Boich ranking behind him. As the top three players were the only one to get paid out, the action was fierce as you can imagine. For eight hours, players exchanged chips and there were no eliminations but suddenly, four bust-outs in a row went down and Fitoussi went down as the bubble.
As eliminations began, Smith, who started the day towards the lower end of the leaderboard, began making a serious comeback. Deeb was eliminated in a spectacular hand, holding A-10 against Guoga's pocket fours. An ace on the turn put Deeb ahead of the game with a pair, but a four hit the river and gave the hand to Guoga. Heads-up play afterwards was fairly perfunctory: Smith had an almost 3:1 lead over Guoga and despite some valiant efforts, put him down in just under an hour.
