In an unusual move, the World Poker Tour has announced an open casting call for a new on-air role covering events around the world. If you've ever shouted at the TV because there's no way you'd just limp in with pocket rockets or spent an hour analyzing why Ivey played what he played and won a hang, then you're going to be perfect for their new segment, "The Raw Deal." There's two ways to audition for the role, you can go in person or use the WPT's "Raw Deal" Facebook page.

People wanting to audition in person should appear at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles on August 19, 2010 from 11:00AM to 8PM during the buildup to the WPT Legends Of Poker tournament. Just like American Idol, you'll have to show your stuff to producers who'll want to know how passionate you are about the game.

If you're not going to be in LA for the Legends Of Poker event, go to the WPT's "Raw Deal" Facebook page and upload a 45-second video. They urge you to "Be sarcastic. Be sardonic. Be Sartorial. Most of all — be memorable." Family and friends are going to be able to vote for your video and the top ten vote-getters will move straight to the shortlist for callbacks.

In a deeply surprising move on the part of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the town of Portsmouth has been told to shut down all poker rooms within its borders. It's a decision that seems to have taken everyone by surprise, especially as Commonwealth Attorney Earle Mobley seemed distinctly on the side of poker rooms and their legality in the state just a few short weeks ago. Local TV station WKTR visited Circle Restaurant and Victory Bowling Lanes owner Don Ferguson for more details on how he was handling the order. Ferguson has been running games at the Circle Restaurant and like all local poker halls, donating a significant portion of their income to charities.

"We were the main charity over there and we made donations to the Salvation Army every month and to the Noble Women and a lot of the money towards paying for youth and senior citizens to come bowl here at the bowling alley," Ferguson told WKTR.

The station also pointed out that the poker rooms allowed Ferguson to charge just a dollar for kids' bowling and host special events for senior citizens as well. Ferguson added: "I don't think it's fair but we got to do what we were told, so that's why we shut down as soon as he told us we had to stop."

Repeated attempts on the part of WKTR to get in touch with Mobley to discuss the matter were refused flatly by the Commonwealth Attorney's office. In the four years since Mobley agreed that poker was a game of skill, millions of dollars have been raised by the parlors for organizations like the local fire and police departments' youth outreach efforts, The March Of Dimes, and the Salvation Army among others.

An online poker player from Hong Kong (Justin Chan) that has won the largest poker tournament to be held in Asia so far. Mirroring the World Series of Poker format of five starting days with the twist of giving players the chance to re-register, the Macau Millions drew in a total of 741 players, easily breaking the record for tournament size in an Asian event. The previous recordholder was the Filipino Poker Tour at the Metro Card Club, when 679 competed for their share of a pot. The tournament featured a HK$2,200 buy-in.

The one million dollar guarantee offered by an online poker room at Casino Grand Lisboa was easily matched and beaten by the assembled players with the final prize pool swelling to HK$1,467,180. 54 players made it through to the final day on Sunday and the top spot was claimed by a 30-year-old MBA student, Justin Chan. This was despite an early chip lead by Bryan Huang and stiff competition by Raymond Wu, who was holding AA when he busted out of the tournament against Chan's AK.

Perhaps vexingly for many of the pros and wannabes who were competing, Chan told press that was there simply because he wanted to pay in a big tournament. He was rewarded handsomely for this impulse, earning HK$275,000 for his efforts.
