The inaugural WSOP Player's Championship is already going into Day 4. 116 of the world's best poker pros paid $50,000 to be play for $1,559,046 and the mantle as one of the best pros in the world. Currently Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi sit on top with a $1.48 million stack.
To put it lightly Mizrachi needs this win. He's in debt, two of his homes have been foreclosed and due to unpaid taxes.
Despite a huge stack a win for him is far from guaranteed.
Sitting in second place with 1.43 million is Russia’s Vladimir Schmelev. Third is David Oppenheim with 1.34 million, Abe Mosseri has 1. 34 million and Daniel Alaei has 1.26 million.
Surprisingly, some of poker's biggest names have folded: Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, Doyle Brunson and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson have all been sent home.
The second place winner will receive $963,375, and third place cashes in on $603,348, so it won't be all bad if Mizrachi doesn't take the first prize.
The Players Championship resumes at 12 p.m. ET on Monday, May 31.

T’s finally here. After a six month delay, the US government will finally implement the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act on June 1st, and analysts are watching to see how the industry, market and poker sites will react. Will the implementation have any effect on the way operators run their sites? Will fewer poker players visit their favorite online haunts?
Bodog Poker has specifically stated that it WILL accept US players. :dirol
Well, as long as I still have access to my accounts and they have funds on them, I don't see any reason for me to stop playing. One of these days, politicians will come to their collective senses and do the right thing. . .
2. Play at Poker Stars, assuming I'm able to find a financial institution that allows me move my money there, or make a deposit via Western Union and have to eat some fees.
The UIGEA has failed and will continue to fail. I can still play poker on the Internet, I can still move money to and from my Internet poker accounts (though it may take a little more effort), and so can most of the rest of the Internet poker players in the United States.

Senator Wright has offered Senate Bill 1485 which would call for three contracts for operators to run intrastate online poker sites. It is a bill that has been in the works for a while now, but only on Tuesday did the printed version become available.
The bill has all of makings of a big money grab for California. If approved by legislators, the online poker sites would be required to pay twenty percent of their revenue to California. That is in addition to any licensing fees that would be established.

Early indications show that Michael Mizrachi is really coming out on his own with a stunning performance at the Poker Player’s Championship with Eli Elezra, Juhn Juanda, Eric Seidel and Andy Block all nipping at his heels in the $50,000 buy-in tournament that offers a $1.5m+ prize for taking first place. We’ll be updating tomorrow with more info.
Want to get permanently banned from the Rio and the World Series of Poker at the same time? Get caught cheating like one particular idiot did on Saturday afternoon. He was seen and videotaped taking a few extra chips from the pile next to the pot he’d just won just after the 20-minute break at the end of Level 2 was announced. The fifty-something man with gray hair in a baseball cap was escorted from the playing area by Harrah’s security and Tournament director Jack Effel confirmed that he is no longer welcome at any World Series of Poker events.
Back to happier news: two of Bodog Poker’s players won the $12,000 WSOP prize packages and will be sauntering into the Main Event in style. Congratulations to VikesWin2 and gman07140 for their victories and we look forward to seeing them compete in Vegas!

Hawaii’s Michael Chow also won his first gold bracelet playing in the $1500 buy-in Omaha High-Low Split event. The final table went late into the night with Chow finally eliminating Dan Heimiller after hours of back-and-forth that actually saw Heimiller take the chip lead and hold it for several rounds before Chow’s stunning comeback. Chow, 33, worked in real estate until recently before opting for the more stable world of high-stakes poker and has earned a $237,463 payout for besting 817 other players.
There’s some interesting betting going on off the tables:
Tom Dwan is looking at making over $2,000,000 in bracelet bets if he takes down a WSOP event this summer. Big names like Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu are getting in on the action, in which the pro from New Jersey is taking 3.25:1 odds from anyone that’s willing to bet against him. Interestingly, he’s doing more than betting on himself, but he’s giving players the option to bet on players like Negreanu and Ivey to beat him with 2:1 odds and offering 1.3:1 odds that any player willing to take the leap will see fewer cashes than him. Good luck with that, Tom.
Online poker players plan to rally on the steps of the state Supreme Court Thursday afternoon to protest the law that makes on-line gambling a felony.
Inside, the director of the state's Poker Players Alliance is making his case before the Supreme Court. They're fighting the 2006 state law that makes online poker players felons. Opponents of the law say it makes no sense because it's legal in any poker room across the state, but not online.
What's worse, they say, is it puts online poker plays in the same category as those caught with child porn, or heroin.
"I'm completely appalled," said Lee Rousso, Poker Players Alliance Washington state director. "Of course, I mean, we're regular, salt of the earth citizens we just happen to like to play America's favorite game in the privacy of our own homes and we should be able to do that."
Those rallying on the steps say they should have the freedom to spend their money how they want.
"Everybody in America should have the choice of where to spend their money," said Tom Myers. "That's why we're in America - the reason why I want that choice is because if I want to sit on my couch and spend $100, I should have that right, it's my $100."
It will take the state Supreme Court anywhere from 6-9 months to hand down a ruling, but Rousso says the losing side will likely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court because he thinks it's a cutting edge issue across the country

Exactly
I think we should have the right to lose our money if we want.
Well of course there is winning as a possibility also.

Point is we should have the right "FREEDOM".
One Word: FREEDOM
The Swiss Supreme Court has ruled that poker is a game of luck. The decision was a reversal of a lower court decision and a negation of the decision of the Swiss Gaming Commission. The decision cannot be appealed and will limit public betting in poker games to casinos. The suit on which the decision was made was, in fact, brought by Switzerland’s casino industry. Poker can still be played for money in home settings so long as games are not open to the public.

Completely Ridiculous and if this misconception is believed it is a set back for poker for sure.
Makes no sense and is Void of Logic.
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi took home his first WSOP bracelet, over $1.5m and the Chip Reese Trophy after winning last night's 2010 Poker Players championship. Russian banker Vladimir Schemelev came in second and David Oppenheim took third. In a dramatic moment, Michael knocked his brother Robert out of the competition at the final table, but the duo has reason to celebrate anyway. They’re now the highest-finishing pair of siblings at any WSOP event, having crossed that line at the end of level 24 when they beat both the Duke/Lederer duo's performance back in 95 and the Boatmans in 2002.
Hawaii’s Michael Chow also won his first gold bracelet playing in the $1500 buy-in Omaha High-Low Split event. I think this line sums it up:
Mizrachi can now scratch his name off as one of the best poker players to never win a World Series Of poker Bracelet.
“Take me off the list,” he said.
Well deserved and the monkey is off his back.
Congrats

A coalition of California tribal governments and card rooms lead by the Commerce Casino, Hollywood Park Casino, Hawaiian Gardens Casino, Bicycle Casino and the Morongo Band of Mission Indians issued a statement calling for regulation and taxation of online poker.
"With the introduction of SB 1485, California is one step closer to allowing the establishment of legal intrastate online poker Web sites that will offer consumer protections and provide desperately needed revenue for the state.
Millions of Californians are already playing poker online using illegal offshore Web sites at great risk to their privacy and possible identity theft. Online poker needs to be brought out of the shadows in an open and transparent system so that players can be confident their personal information and winnings are secure, and the state can recoup the millions in revenue that are being lost to offshore interests every day."
The coalition stated it would be reviewing the bill carefully and offering its expertise on gaming issues with an eye toward getting comprehensive legislation passed this year and said it would be working with the Legislature "to ensure that California consumers are protected and California receives the revenue it deserves".
The newly proposed bill would award up to three contracts to California-based operators to run intrastate online poker websites for registered players in California for a period of five years. It also makes it illegal for any person in California to play an Internet gambling game that is not authorized by the state.
Wright's proposed bill will require legislative analysis and a second hearing by the Senate Governmental Organization Committee.

Another $1,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem Event, #5, also came to a close last night, with London’s Praz Bansi collecting over a half-million dollars and his second WSOP bracelet for his efforts. Bansi’s a 32-year-old pro hailing from London that got his second WSOP bracelet for his efforts, matching the one he earned in 2006. He also finished third in the 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event championship. He came out on top of a field of over 2,000 players in a tournament that began on Memorial day and finally ended last night. Runners-up, in order, include first-timer Vincent Jacques, Calvin Kordus, David Tuthill and Tomer Berda all breaking the $100,000 mark.
Something we missed out on when reporting Michael Chow’s victory in event #4 yesterday: it happened on his 33rd birthday!

Had to answer the following question:
What was the 2nd event added to the WSOP and what year was it added?
Answer 5 card stud in 1973
They did a random drawing and my name was chosen.
Odd thing was I only started being active on twitter about a week ago when Phil Laak was going for world record for most hours playing poker. I started following poker pros in addition to bodog.
I played in the first 10 seat gtd and have been trying to saty my way into this one. This could not have been easier (or cheaper). Hope to have a story to tell if i can make it to the main event.
The PPA, represented in court by Washington state director Lee Rousso, argued their case based on the federal Commerce Act. Under terms of this act, no state can “pass legislation that discriminates against (any) section of any industry.” Rousso stated that since playing poker and blackjack is legal in online casinos, it should also be legal online. He argued further that no one benefitted from banning online gambling in Washington except for the legal bricks and mortar casinos.
Assistant State Attorney General Jerry Ackerman argued on the other side that online gambling is impossible to regulate and that the Washington government supports tribal casinos in the state because of federal legislation requiring such casinos.
In attendance at the hearing was PPA Chairman Alfonse D’Amato, a former New York senator, and also speaking for the PPA’s case were PPA Executive Director John Pappas and professional poker player Phil Gordon.
During the hearing and afterward, online poker players rallied outside the Supreme Court in protest. The Washington chapter of the Poker Players Alliance has 20,000 members, despite certain legal pressure on online poker sites in the United States. The PPA thanked the “the turnout of poker players who joined us this morning on the steps of the Supreme Court to support Mr. Rousso’s case” in an official statement.
The PPA went on to claim that a recent poll showed 80% of registered voters in Washington were for legalizing online poker. The organization said that “The PPA looks forward to working with Washington’s state and federal lawmakers, regardless of outcome in this case, to establish effective licensing and regulation of online poker as opposed to criminalizing citizens for playing the game.”
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, the federal law heavily restricting U.S.-based financial institutions in processing payments between casinos and individuals, into full effect on Tuesday. Though American gambling laws exist on the national level, several states are currently exploring in-state Internet gambling.
