Legislation that would allow online poker and other games of skill while bringing up to $3bn in state revenue was introduced last night to the US Senate.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group, commended Senator Menendez for introducing the Act:

"Today's action by Senator Menendez is yet another powerful step towards protecting Internet freedom, protecting consumers and protecting online poker," said PPA Chairman and former Senator Alfonse D’Amato.

Jeremy Gaubert Wins World Poker Open Championship. Jeremy Gaubert is a 25-year-old poker pro from Thibodaux, LA, who has been playing professionally for four years. Before that, he was a college student majoring in chemistry. His biggest poker accomplishment to date was chopping the Sunday Million on PokerStars for $233k.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) hopes a hot hand in the nation's capital this week will help its efforts to legalize online poker.

As part of its "National Poker Week," the group has set up nearly 100 meetings with members of Congress and their aides, and plans to present a petition to President Barack Obama on Wednesday that had more than 350,000 signatures at last count. Famous poker players such as Annie Duke, Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch and Greg Raymer are participating as well.

(At least half the $16 billion Internet gambling industry, which is largely hosted on overseas sites, is estimated to be fueled by U.S. bettors.)

Now, it's time for the sixth generation of the poker tournament that made national pride part of the prize pool. PokerStars' World Cup of Poker VI begins next week and everyone in the world has a chance to represent their country at the live finals in the Bahamas.

It's been a little more than eight months since the World Cup of Poker crowned its fifth champion. Team Germany took the title in the live finals back in January. Now that team and 53 other teams have their chance to fight for World Cup title.

Maxim Lykov defeated a field of 296 players to win his first major tournament title on Sunday, Aug. 23. The young player also became the first Russian to win an EPT event. (He was awarded €330,000 for the victory).
