Pokerstars once again broke the record for "Largest Online Poker Tournament".

65,000 players turned out for the $1 ($130k Guaranteed) tournament on Pokerstars, which allowed the company to hold off a strong challenge from Full Tilt Poker.

It should be interesting to see if Full Tilt Poker attempts to break the record!! :dirol

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) hopes a hot hand in the nation's capital this week will help its efforts to legalize online poker.

As part of its "National Poker Week," the group has set up nearly 100 meetings with members of Congress and their aides, and plans to present a petition to President Barack Obama on Wednesday that had more than 350,000 signatures at last count. Famous poker players such as Annie Duke, Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch and Greg Raymer are participating as well.

(At least half the $16 billion Internet gambling industry, which is largely hosted on overseas sites, is estimated to be fueled by U.S. bettors.)

Gomes walked away with $1,187,670 for first place, putting his career tournament winning at $2.7 million after only a year of playing in major poker tournaments. Not bad at all. His previous large cashes both hovered around the $750k mark and were for a fourth place finish at the EPT PCA and a WSOP bracelet win last year in the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event.

The $1,050 buy-in Super Tuesday online poker tournament draws out some of the biggest names in online poker on a weekly basis, and yesterday was no exception as Bodog Poker pro Justin Bonomo took down the tournament and a cool $75,855.

The event drew out 389 entrants, generating an impressive prizepool. Bonomo held the lead going into the final table and built that into a 3 to 1 chip lead over "Mumtum23" as heads-up play started. A few hands later, a turned flush sealed the tournament and a very nice payday for Bonomo.

You can play online poker with Bonomo any time at his own table in the Bodog Poker.

Obama campaigned for Internet freedom from censorship, and his own interactive poll revealed US residents consider affirming the right to play online poker the top technological priority of the administration. Obama himself is a known poker aficionado, and Barney Frank, a leading Democratic Congressman, has taken on evangelical Republicans in a battle to restore individual liberty to the Internet and preserve the right to choose to visit online casinos.

I hope Obama does the right thing

Annie Duke was in Washington, D.C., for National Poker Week and made it a point to discuss online gambling legislation with certain members of Congress. Duke says the atmosphere is much different in Washington than the last time Barney Frank was championing online gambling a year ago.

The poker star also noted that, in this time of economic crisis, mentioning the potential of $3 billion or more in federal revenue catches quite a bit of attention. 😄

PokerStars has reacted with impressive speed to the sudden Russian ban on poker, switching its EPT to the beautiful and historic coastal town of Kiev in the Ukraine for the tournament.

(Kiev is the largest city and capital of Ukraine, and the event, which is expected to be the largest poker tournament ever held in the region, will take place at the Kiev Sports Palace).

PokerStars advises players who qualified online for the Moscow event that their packages (including buy-in and hotel) will be converted to EPT Kiev packages; however they will also be eligible to take a credit for a future event, or receive the cash equivalent value as alternatives.

The buy-in for the “EPT Kiev Sports Poker Championship” Main Event will be Euro 4 700 + 300.

David "The Maven" Chicotsky a professional online poker player says it's time to overturn a law that prevents U.S. gamblers from using their credit cards at gaming Web sites.

"This is not about a moral issue," - "This is a matter of sensible government."

(David "The Maven" Chicotsky, 29, a Fort Worth, Texas, native and winner of Bluff Magazine's 2008 Online Player of the Year title, says the repeal efforts, led by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., would give a huge boost to the online poker industry, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported).
