In January, PokerSoftware wrote about a new virtual entertainment program called Easy Poker Simulator, which allows beginning players to experiment and learn the fundamentals of poker without any real money commitment.

Those who enjoy the application, which can be downloaded at no cost, will be glad to know that head developer Joseval "JRS" Reinas has been hard at work implementing additional features. Read our Easy Poker Simulator review.

Online poker players who download the latest version of Easy Poker Simulator will see that a number of percentage-based statistics have been added to the table view. Among them are the rate at which the hero wins at showdown and the expected rates of certain hole cards versus opponents when the chips are all-in.

The anniversary of Black Friday is right around the corner and this past week we’ve seen a lot of news coming from the courtroom in relation to the April 15th indictments. The plea deals of Chad Elie and John Campos dominated the poker headlines this week, but there were plenty of other big stories, including the EPT’s first trip to Campione, Italy and some big events on PokerStars’ horizon. We’ve got the highlights from all of those and more in this edition of The Week That Was:

Poker has been a difficult subject to cover in both movies and film. Not until the World Poker Tour utilized the lipstick camera to view players' hole cards has it been popular to watch a poker television broadcast. Movies about poker or poker players haven't done much better, with Rounders being an exception to the rule. But if you believe the buzz, there's another exception on the way.

Everything Bodog seems to have a focus on the Asian online gambling market lately and the newest addition to the Bodog Poker team is no exception. The Bodog Poker Network has just announced that Jay Tan a promising and talented poker professional will be joining another talented pro Tatjana Pasalic at the tables.

Armed with a Masters Degree in Business she moved to her early roots as a child, back to Hong Kong to pursue a banking career at Goldman Sachs. Impressed by the moves of Canadian pro poker player Daniel Negreanu while he played on television the young banker Tan decided she would take up the game. After a time and a few cash tournament wins the Los Angeles USA born Tan quit her banking career to get involved in the poker game seriously. Jay Tan is a fast moving and exciting personality that likes nothing more than to take her bike for a fast run in the busy streets of dense Hong Kong.

When asked about being named to Team Bodog she said, “I think I’m a great for Bodog because they are a fun brand and I love having fun playing poker and living the lifestyle that goes with being a Bodog Poker Pro.” Obviously thrilled with the opportunity to be a part of the advancing Asian poker market Tan said, “I’m so honoured to be part of growing the sport in Asia, the poker community keeps growing. The fields are getting larger in every tournament I enter with people from China, Singapore, Japan, Korea and Australia.”

Jay has already gone the distance at some high-profile final tables, finishing fifth in the Macau Poker Cup No Limit Red Dragon and second in the Macau Poker Cup NLHE KO Bounty. She also managed and cashed her first WSOP event last year. The poker player had something to say to her future opponents, “If you get to a showdown with me, you better have a great hand. Whether you call or fold, it’s probably the play I wanted you to make.”

Despite not having met since 1984, the Nevada Gaming Policy Committee (GPC) convened last week to discuss legal online poker.

The 11-member GPC is headed by State Governor Brian Sandoval and acts as an advisory board which makes non-binding recommendations to the Nevada Gaming Commission or the State Gaming Control Board.

Currently, online gambling is illegal in the U.S., but back in December, 2011, the Justice Department revealed it no longer believed the Interstate Wire Act of 1961 was applicable to online poker, thus spurring Nevada forward with efforts to to allow it. Consequently, the GPC are now in the process of preparing draft bills to that end, with member Paul Mathews Jr. explaining:

“It’s time for Nevada to be able to leverage its regulatory apparatus to our benefit. We need to take what we do around the block and around the world. In order to do that, we need some legislation.”

California will probably go stag to the online poker dance.

With 37.7 million people, which is about the same as Canada, the state is the sexiest partner an intrastate industry could find. However, she has no plans, at least for now, to share her player pool with another jurisdiction.

“We’re not going to partner with Nevada, not today,” a source close to California’s online poker legislation said. “Nobody from Nevada has approached us, and we haven’t approached them.”

Nevada is on the verge of licensing companies to run poker games to residents and visitors. However, with a population of 2.7 million and 4 million visitors per month, according to data from the Nevada Resorts Association, the Silver State wants help.

Canadians are on average twice as likely to play online poker as Americans, according to a report by G-poker. A study by researchers from the University of Nevada and the University of Hamburg, found that the prevalence of online poker players in Canada varies, from 68 per cent of residents in Nova Scotia and 83 per cent of those in Ontario playing online poker, to 2.54 per cent of all residents of the north west territories being online poker players.

These numbers reflect Canadian habits directly preceding the events of Black Friday, when several major online poker sites such as Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars were shut down. Since that time, PokerStars has reopened its doors to Canadian players, but it is sites that were uninvolved in Black Friday, like 888 Poker, that are proving most popular in Canada since the shutdown.

My journey through the world of poker has produced a number of opinion pieces with regard to women-only poker tournaments. Some of those articles have been rather harsh, asking women to toughen up, look at the big picture, and stop using ladies-only tournaments as crutches. I have criticized the World Series of Poker for awarding a bracelet to a field that excludes men, and I have called women-only events discriminatory and destructive.

The Black Diamond Poker Open is finished and now all that's left is to tell you who won and how much they walked away with. As expected, competition was fierce in the $250,000 Guaranteed Championship Series Main Event with 695 players vying for the top spot. The prize pool easily topped its guarantee and there was over $45,000 in additional cash fueling the frenzy.

So, who won? Brett A took the top spot, earning $57,598.56 and receiving an engraved watch worth over $5,000 to commemorate his victory. Second place and $38,398.75 went to Byran B and Travis C rounded out the top three with a very tidy $29,242.12 added to his bankroll. The rest of the final table went as follows: Ryan M ($21,414.68); Thomas P ($15,359.50); Joel S ($11,519.62); Robert T ($8,565.87); Marchant D ($5,759.81) and Philipp S ($3,839.87).

The Championship Series Main Event was followed by a more modest $25,000 Guaranteed Championship Series Second Chance tournament, which was won by Daniel F. He earned $8,019.01 for his victory. The prize pool for this event also exceeded the guarantee by a healthy margin: $36,450.00 was disbursed to the winners.

This isn't the end for great online poker tournament action at Bovada, though! Every week, the best place to play online poker hosts a $100,000 guaranteed tournament along with hundreds of sit and go and multi-table events aimed at players with every size bankroll. On top of everything else, they're offering deposit bonuses of up to $1,000 and the best player support in the game!

There are quite a few websites that currently offer online gambling options to users all over the world. After recently doing a few reviews of the various websites, Betting Tips 101 says in the Bodog review that the London based website has the best user-interface.

Every type of online gambling is covered on Bodog. Users can place bets on sporting events, or they can play traditional casino games.

There is even a dedicated poker section for those wanting to play the popular card game. The truth is, a lot of other websites offer these games as well. As pointed out in Betting Tips 101’s Bodog review, what makes this website a cut above the rest is customer satisfaction. Betting online could not be easier with the way the website is set up.

They have 24/7 customer support that gives users confidence that they can literally use the website any time they wish. For an online gambling website, this is a must to be taken seriously. Finally, in the Bodog review on Betting Tips 101, they point out how often they run specials, discounts and bonuses.

Online gambling in general is just that (gambling), but the specials increase the odds and make it easier to walk away a winner. That is something every gambler would like to do. Finding a place that to trust with money is important before ever thinking about online gambling. After going through numerous websites, the unbiased Bodog review came out on
top.

According to a report by The Times, casino operator Trump Entertainment Resorts and online gaming company 888 Holdings are in discussions to offer online poker once a regulated online gambling market is implemented in the United States.

Donald Trump first showed a keen interest in online gambling last October when he and New York hedge-fund manager Marc Lasry announced plans to form an Internet gaming company when online gambling is legalized in the U.S. The company would be formed through Lasry’s Avenue Capital Group and Trump Entertainment Resorts, of which Trump himself has a 10 percent stake. Trump Entertainment Resorts owns two casinos in Atlantic City and would have a 10 percent share of the new venture.

The Fraternal Order of Police, which lobbies Congress on behalf of 330,000 law-enforcement officers, sent a letter to leadership of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives last week asking for federal action to create a strong regulatory framework for legal Internet gaming to protect U.S. consumers and provide law enforcement the tools necessary to put offshore sites out of business.

The letter was signed by FOP president Chuck Canterbury and addressed to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

A bill in New Jersey aimed at legalizing online gaming was approved Tuesday by a Senate Committee by a 11-0 margin, with one abstention.

The legislation would authorize Atlantic City casinos to offer the activity to state residents.

The bill moves to a full vote by lawmakers. According to NorthJersey-com, that could happen as late as June.

A recent study revealed that online poker is being played by a much higher percentage of women than ever before in the history of the game. Baring this in mind it is no wonder the big poker rooms have at least a few pros of the fair gender. Many industries and jobs that were traditionally male dominated such as waiters in France, glass blowers in Venice, or construction workers in the USA now women are doing whatever they like and they are usually really good at it. Professional poker is no exception to the liberated trend of the game, women of great skill have emerged to show the poker world they know how to play.
