The website for the World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League (WPTAPL) has been hacked according to a report by CyberWarNews.
An online hacker using the Twitter account @smitt3nz posted 175,333 email addresses and plain text passwords to a web site on Friday.
The site does not offer real money online gaming and no funds are thought to be at risk; however, users are encouraged to change their passwords on that site and any other site they may have used the same password.
The leak includes unverified login details with a variety of government email suffixes including dhs.gov (Department of Homeland Security), uscourts.gov (United States Courts), nasa.gov (NASA), irs.gov (Internal Revenue Service), army.mil, navy.mil, usmc.mil (United States Marines), af.mil (Air Force) and usdoj.gov (United States Department of Justice).
The WPT sanctioned site is the hub for a series of free live events across the US, Canada and the UK. The organization brings recreational players together in various venues across North America and the the UK to learn the game and test their skills
Of the 175,333 accounts exposed 46,901 all have the same password, which is thought to be the “default reset password.”
A representative of the WPT was not available for comment.
The WPTAPL website does embed the Authorize-net emblem which promises to provide “its merchant customers with the highest level of transaction processing security, safeguarding customer information and combating fraud.”
The hacker also posted the following message above the long list of compromised emails:
“175,333 unencrypted password’s…when will people learn?”

Jake Schindler has won the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 no-limit hold’em high roller, earning the first-place prize of $1,192,624 after overcoming Greg Merson to secure the title. The two made a deal once heads-up play began, setting aside $200,000 from the prize pool and splitting the remainder to assure Schindler at least $992,624 and Merson $948,996 based on their chip counts, leaving the trophy, a swiss watch from Slyde worth $17,500 and the extra money to play for.
On the final four hands of play Merson moved all-in preflop without looking at his cards, and on the final hand Schindler agreed to also shove blind. “That was his idea,” said Schindler after play ended. “At first I was going to wait for a good hand to call with, Q-7 or better, but I didn’t feel like waiting anymore.”
When asked what his thoughts were on his final table competition, Schindler said, " I thought it was going to be pretty tough, which it definitely was. It was really hard to put them on hands and assess their ranges and what not. It was definitely a really tough experience but a really awesome one."
When asked who he had the most trouble against he admitted, “Vanessa. She just doesn’t give up. She’s super resilient. She keeps battling.”
Here is a look at the payouts awarded at this final table:
Rank Player Payout
1 Jake Schindler $1,192,624
2 Greg Merson $948,996
3 Vanessa Selbst $607,580
4 Mustapha Kanit $492,600
5 Robert Mizrachi $389,720
6 Aleksandr Denisov $295,920
7 Ole Schemion $216,040
8 Joao Vieira $157,940

CardPlayer-com has upgraded its live tournament database of results so that users can now create leaderboards based on their own criteria.
The leaderboards can be sorted by a wide array of fields including for top earners, largest wins, total final tables, by year, by country or US State. Over 80,000 leaderboards can be created from the options available, including results from 250,000 players.
Clicking through on players listed in the leaderboards brings up individual data such as biographies, tweets and the player’s other live results.
The increasing attention attracted by the Global Poker Index (GPI) with its Hendon Mob sourced database and unique ranking methodology may have been the spur for CardPlayer to upgrade their own resource.

— Saying they have confirmed that one or more people used “a significant number of counterfeit chips” at an Atlantic City poker tournament, state casino regulators on Saturday canceled the tainted match and ordered all prize money frozen until an investigation is complete.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement canceled the first event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open. It had suspended the game Friday after suspicions about the use of fake chips arose.
No charges have been filed in the case.
“Thus far, investigators have found that one or more tournament entrants improperly introduced a significant number of counterfeit chips into the tournament, gaining an unfair advantage and compromising the integrity of play for the event,” Tom Ballance, the Borgata’s president and chief operating officer said Saturday.
“It is extremely unfortunate that the criminal actions of these individuals can have a detrimental impact on more than 4,000 other entrants,” he said. “We fully understand and regret the disappointment this cancellation causes our valued customers, and we will work diligently with DGE investigators to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The integrity of our games and the confidence of our players is of the utmost importance to us.”
Ballance said the Borgata has thoroughly examined its remaining stock of chips, which were cleared by investigators for use in dozens of other events in the poker tournament, which will be played as scheduled.
It was not immediately clear what would happen with the entrance fees paid by people who participated in the tainted match. The Borgata said the state ordered “that all unpaid prize money be held in trust until more details and resolution can be determined.”
New Jersey State Police said Saturday the investigation is ongoing and that no arrests had been made. The event under scrutiny is the tournament’s Big Stack, No Limit Hold ‘Em event. It began on Tuesday and had a $560 buy-in. There were 27 people remaining in the contest when play was suspended.
Joe Lupo, the casino’s senior vice president, said concerns arose during play Thursday night. The tournament was scheduled to resume at noon on Friday, but he said it was suspended before that could happen. He would not say what raised concerns about the integrity of the game, saying it was part of the ongoing investigation.
Customers wanting to participate in the tournament go to a registration area at the Borgata, pay the $560 entry fee, and go to a table, where they are given 20,000 chips to use in the poker games. By sneaking fake chips onto the table or otherwise introducing them into the game, a cheating player would benefit by having more chips than he or she had paid for, and is able to last longer in the game. The tables are watched by multiple security cameras, but casino and state officials would not discuss what, if any, evidence they have uncovered of cheating during the games.
The 18-day series of tournaments is a regular feature at the Borgata. The casino’s website said the championship event, which starts Sunday, Jan. 26., would include a $3 million prize guarantee.
The investigation does not involve Internet gambling, which began late last year and which the Borgata has dominated in the early going.

The 2014 Aussie Millions kicks off its first event on January 23 with a schedule of 20 events running until February 10. The Crown Casino in Melbourne again provides the venue for the highest profile event in the Southern hemisphere.
The total number of events has been reduced this year, so the Crown’s Director of Poker, Jim Preston believes that field sizes should be larger—and he is hoping for a record number of entries for the $10,600 Main Event starting on February 2.
This year the Main Event will be part of the PokerStars Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) following a deal announced in November. Although accorded the status of “Main Event”, and lasting for a full seven days, there are three bigger buyin events on offer.
A $25k two day event starts on the same day as the Main Event, and is followed on February 7 by a $100k High Roller. The highest buy in is reserved for the $250k Super High Roller which was won last year by Sam Trickett.
The event garnered a field of 18 players with the necessary bankroll or staking support and produced a first prize of AU$2m. The 2013 Main Event winner was Mervin “The Cat” Chan who had to beat a 629 strong field to take AU$1.6m—he also received a Chrysler 300C car.
The big money has attracted the big names, with players such as Dan Shak, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, all expected to attend.

Poker pro Viktor “Isildur1” Blom has began 2014 by winning more than $1 million.
His performance so far this year basically mirrors what he did in January 2013, though then he was up more than $4 million by the end of the first month of the year.
The past seven days for the Swede have netted him more than $700,000 of the profits.
Lifetime on Full Tilt Poker, Blom is still in the hole around $650,000.
Blom’s frequent nemesis Ben “Bttech86” Tollerene has the top spot so far this year with around $1.3 million in profits. Other big winners include Doug “WCGRider” Polk ($700,000), Isaac “luvtheWNBA” Haxton ($400,000) and Dan “jungleman12” Cates ($200,000).
The most intense action this year has come at $400-$800 pot-limit Omaha, however the largest pot in 2014 was a no-limit hold’em one won two days ago by Haxton. It was a $323,000 hand versus Blom, where Haxton held a queen-high flush.
Bloom mucked without showing after calling Haxton’s all-in river bet.
On the flip side through the first few weeks of 2014 are Gus Hansen (-$1.16 million), Alex “IReadYrSoul” Millar (-$660,000), Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius (-$300,000) and Ben “Sauce1234” Sulsky (-$200,000). Hansen is down around $16 million lifetime on Full Tilt.
The good news for the high-stakes community this week was that $82 million worth of stolen Full Tilt Poker money will soon be released to victims of the site under prior ownership.
That could be a huge boost to the poker economy.

After a shaky start and one cancelled tournament, the Borgata Winter Poker Open festival finished in style crowning a new World Poker Tour (WPT) champion.
It wasn’t about 2013 WPT Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble champ, Jarred Jaffee who had the opportunity to become only the sixth player ever to win twice in the same season. It wasn’t even about chip leader David Paredes who thought that the third time’s the charm after cashing in twice this season. It was all about an amateur who emerged victorious after starting the final day at the bottom of the chip lead.
Anthony Merulla had the fifth stack when the six-handed play started and came out on top in the end proving once again that in poker everything is possible. The amateur didn’t waste any time in building his stack and on the 11th hand of the day, he won his first big pot. Although he had a big hand – pocket Queens – he was severely dominated in a three-way battle against Jared Jaffee and Columbian Farid Jattin. Both Merulla and Jattin moved all their chips in middle preflop calling big stack Jaffee. Jaffee had only pocket tens with the Columbian being the big dog, holding pocket Kings. The flop was safe and changed nothing but the turn and the river was a real emotional rollercoaster. The turn gave Jaffee a set and the big chance to eliminate two players in one shot. The river however reshaped the odds once again and gave Merulla the flush and the best hand.
He was the one who eventually eliminated the WPT Jacksonville champ just four hands later. Jaffee moved all-in preflop his last 14 big blinds with King-Jack and was called by Merulla who had the slight lead with his Ace-Eight suited. The Ace turn wrap things up for Jeffee who finished fourth for $258,590.
After that, the action slowed down and the three players left had to play 61 hands before one of the them hit the rail. Anthony Maio was the unlucky one to finish third; he open-raised the button with pocket queens and Merulla called from the small blind. The flop was all diamonds with Maio firing a continuation bet and his opponent smooth calling. Maio fired the second barrel only to watch how the amateur moves all in. He eventually called and was drawing dead against a flopped flush.
The heads-up play was another marathon. The finalists played 95 hands and switched the chip lead time and time again before the final hand. And it was once again a queen that brought Merulla the victory. Paredes started the action min-raising from the small blind; Merulla called and led on a Q63 flop. Eventually, after several raises and re-raises all the chips were in the middle. Paredes had top pair but Merulla had Queen-Three and two pairs. Nothing changed on the turn and river with the amateur winning the big tournament and $842,379. Paredes cashed in $499,549.

Adelaide’s Jeff Rossiter made $4 million playing poker tournaments last year, yet outside the cards clique he’s kept a low profile until BRW caught up with him at Melbourne’s ‘Aussie Millions’ event last week.
The 24 year-old Rossiter won $3.2 million for a couple days’ work last June, after finishing second in the Guandong Asia Millions tournament in Macau. With career tournament earnings north of $5 million, he’s now second on the all-time money list of Australian poker players behind the closest thing the game has to a household name here - Joe Hachem.
If it sounds like an overnight success, you’re not too far wrong. Rossiter did not even start playing poker until he was 18 years old.
“Some friends of mine started home games with a $10 or $20 buy-in, just for fun,” he recalls.
“After a year or two, a few friends who dealt at Adelaide Casino had home games with a slightly higher buy-in - $50 or $100 – so I played a bit of that and started getting good. I graduated to playing at the casino for bigger stakes, and making regular trips to Melbourne too.”
Rossiter studied aerospace engineering for a little over a year, but didn’t enjoy it. At the end of 2009 he decided to try playing poker professionally, and after moving to Melbourne a year later enjoyed his breakthrough. That was a third-placing in January 2011’s Aussie Millions at Crown Casino, which grossed Rossiter $700,000 and made his parents “go quiet” with any concerns they had about his chosen career.
Rossiter might now sit aside Socceroo captain Tim Cahill on BRW’s Top Sports Earners list, but he doesn’t consider the game a ‘sport’ and says his preparation is more like “studying” than training.
“I like to go through old hands and see if I made the correct decisions,” Rossiter says.
“I’m always learning. There’s no point in the last five years where I haven’t thought I’d been an awful poker player six months earlier.”
Experience matters more than maths
The stereotype about good poker players being great readers of body language holds true at the elite level, Rossiter says, but not so the canard about having to be a maths genius.
“Basic mathematics is very important but beyond that it doesn’t matter. The real key factor is just experience, playing lots of games.”
Rossiter certainly does that, churning through 74 tournaments all over the world in 2013, on top of regular ‘cash’ games.
However Rossiter says he will continue to focus on tournaments for now.
“High stakes cash games are long sessions, they’re too draining. Tournaments can be a little same-same at the start but once you go deeper, it gets really exciting and you can play for really high stakes.”
Only the top 10 to 15 per cent of finishers share the prize pool at poker tournaments, so even for Rossiter the occasions where he loses his buy-in outnumber those where he gets a payday.
For a tournament like Guandong Millions, the buy-in is one million Hong Kong dollars ($150,000) so Rossiter says he’s careful never to expose too much of his ‘roll’.
“I’m having a lot of fun doing this - I can decide where I want to be next week, next month - so I don’t want to risk that lifestyle.”

The televised $100,000 buyIn WPT Alpha8™ event at Johannesburg’s Emperors Palace is running from February 14 to 15 and will host pros from around the world, including Phil Ivey and fellow Ivey League coach Dan Smith.
Ivey and Smith have already confirmed they will be making the journey into the Southern Hemisphere to vie for what is expected to be a $1 million plus first place payout and a prominent WPT title.
The WPT Alpha8 is an elite televised tournament hosted in some of the world’s most exclusive casino resorts. In 2013, Alpha8 events took place in Florida, London and the Caribbean location of St.Kitts. Johannesburg will be 2014’s first stop.
Televised coverage of the Alpha8 events will begin March 16 with each stop to include four hours of coverage, with commentary from Ali Nejad and Olivier Busquet.
Ivey is known as arguably the best all-round poker pro on the circuit, with cash game finesse, nine World Series of Poker tournament titles and a WPT title behind him. He also recognizes the talents of Dan Smith after making it clear he wanted Smith to represent IveyLeague-com as a trainer and a Team Ivey pro.
Dan Smith gatecrashed the poker scene in 2005 after taking down the $1,650 No Limit Hold’em Main Event in Verona’s Heartland Poker Tour for his first pro cash of $101,960. Smith continued to cash for five figures in more pro tournaments, but remained relatively quiet until 2012 where he finally hit his first major high-stakes’ tournament win at the Aussie Millions. Smith took down his second live poker title after grinding to first place in the No Limit Hold’em Challenge and winning $1,041,828, before going on to win European Poker Tour titles and add the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic to his list of successes.
In the previous two versions of Alpha8 held in London and then in St. Kitts, it was high stakes poker specialist Phillip Grusseum who took down first place, twice winning over $1 million. He will be back for the WPT Alpha8 Johannesburg, adding yet another dangerous name to the list of entrants, as the German pro looks to make it three Alpha8 titles in a row.
Other big name high stakes players are expected in Johannesburg including the likes of Jason Mercier, The Big One for One Drop champ Antonius Esfandiari, online poker phenomenon Dan “Jungleman” Cates*, Erik Seidel and Jeff Gross.
They will be facing local high stakes pros Greg Ronaldson and Darren Kramer. Ronaldson won his entry into the event after getting through a satellite event in the Emperors Casino now giving him home advantage to be the first South African to win an Alpha8 title.
There is still a chance to join Ronaldson on that list of satellite qualifiers: A $500 rebuy satellite that will take place February 11 to 12. It is currently only 75% full.
Every entrant into the South African WPT Alpha 8 will benefit from five nights in the Peermont D’Oreale Grande Hotel, airport transfers, a personal VIP host, Monster DNA headphones, plus there is a complimentary safari in which visitors will be given the chance to catch a glimpse and take snapshots of some South Africa’s intense wildlife. This event should prove to be one of WPT poker’s 2014 highlights.

Thanks to regulated online poker in Nevada and New Jersey, direct satellites to the biggest live tournament series in the world, the World Series of Poker, are once again available to online poker players in the United States via WSOP-com.
WSOP online satellites at WSOP-com in New Jersey and Nevada
WSOP-com is running multiple satellite tournaments in both Nevada and New Jersey, giving players several chances each week to win a seat into both the World Series of Poker Main Event (which is rumored to have a $10,000,000 first-place guarantee this year) as well as into a $1,500 buy-in WSOP bracelet tournament of your choosing.
All told, WSOP-com is guaranteeing a minimum of 93 seats to the Main Event – and that’s just with what’s on offer now. Our understanding is that more satellites will be added as the event draws closer.
According to WSOP officials, WSOP-com is the only online site that will be offering direct buyin satellites to World Series of Poker events.
Here is a look at the current satellite schedule.
Weekly satellites
WSOP Wednesdays –An online satellite to any $1,500 event at the World Series of Poker as well as Main Event seats are up for grabs every Wednesday at WSOP-com.
The first satellite tournament on Wednesday, a $27.5 Rebuy & Addon Satellite to the 2014 $10,000 WSOP Main Event with one Main Event seat guaranteed, takes place in New Jersey only at 7 PM local time.
The second WSOP satellite on Wednesday evening is an $11 Rebuy & Addon Satellite to any 2014 $1,500 WSOP event, once again with one seat guaranteed each week. This satellite starts at 9 PM local time in both New Jersey and Nevada.
Satellite Saturdays – Every Saturday there is a WSOP Main Event seat waiting to be won in both Nevada and New Jersey; here is how you can make it yours.
The Satellite Saturdays tournaments has a steeper buy-in, $215, but this also means that more than one seat to the Main Event could be awarded, depending on how many players take part.
For every 50 players in the satellite, which begins at 7 PM local time in New Jersey and Nevada, one WSOP Main Event will be handed out, with a minimum of one seat guaranteed.
Because of the $215 buy-ins, WSOP-com is offering players three different ways to qualify for the $215 WSOP Satellite:
Daily qualifiers (more on these below).
Single Table Tournament satellites (more on these below as well).
Earning 1,500 Action Player Points.
One-time WSOP satellites
On July 5th, 2014 WSOP-com in Nevada will host their largest direct satellite to the WSOP Main Event, the WSOP 25 Seat Main Event Scramble, where at least 25 seats will be awarded.
This tournament will likely be a massive affair, and will probably represent the best chance to win a Main Event seat, considering you will only have to finish in the Top 25, and not win the tournament.
Like the Saturday Satellite, the 25 Seat Scramble will feature a $215 buy-in with daily qualifiers available virtually around the clock.
Unlike the Saturday Satellite, this tournament will only run on WSOP-com Nevada.
Daily qualifiers and STT’s
If you find the buy-in amounts for the satellite tournaments to still be above your pay grade you can satellite your way into one of these satellites for as little as $1.10.
Every day, virtually around the clock WSOP-com in both New Jersey and Nevada offers qualifier tournaments at a number of different buy-in levels, starting at just $1.
Single Table Tournament (STT) qualifiers are also available under the Sit & Go tab in the tournament lobby. Unlike scheduled qualifier tournaments, these tournaments don’t have a designated start time and simply begin when the table is full.
For more information on these qualifiers or to check times you can download the WSOP-com software and check out the tournament lobby.

Canadian Ami Barer won Australian poker's biggest tournament when he pocketed $1.6m for taking out the Aussie Millions main event in the early hours of Monday morning.
Barer overcame a field of 668 entrants and eventually had to see off his compatriot Sorel Mizzi, who is the only player to have made the Aussie Millions main event final table twice.
Mizzi collected a $1m consolation prize.
Third was Jake Balsiger of the United States, who was also third in the game's premier event, the world series of poker, two years ago. The only Australian at the final table of seven was Andrew Phaedonos, who finished sixth.

With a buyin as big at $250,000 one would expect plenty of the most recognizable names in poker to both take part and go deep, but the final table of the LK Boutique $250k Aussie Millions Challenge was one of the most star-studded lineups in recent memory.
In the end though it would be one of the biggest superstars in the game, Phil Ivey, that would prove, once again, why he is considered the very best. After a back and forth heads up match with Team PokerStars Online Pro, Issac Haxton, Ivey finally emerged victorious earning the prestigious high roller victory and the $4 million AUD first place prize.
While Issac Haxton did not notch the win, he takes home $2.82 million for his second place effort, the finish was likely a vindication for Haxton who had spent the week notoriously firing multiple bullets at the Aussie Millions super high roller action.
It was reported that Issac reentered the Aussie Millions $100k Challenge 6 times and took two shots in the $250k. In total, before this score, Haxton had invested more than a million dollars in high roller tournaments on this tour stop alone. Now all of that is behind him as the runner-up payday finds him swinging in the other direction, able to leave Australia with a more than $1 million AUD profit in the big money tournaments.
While Ivey had to get through Haxton heads up, the rest of the table was one of the toughest anyone could ever fear to face. With six players making it in the money, Ivey had to fade a who’s who of top tier poker pros. Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, German phenom Fabian Quoss, EPT Champion Mike “Timex” McDonald and the 2013 World Series of Poker Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu all stood in his way.
Falling in 3rd place was Mike “Timex” McDonald who with the showing solidified that no player on the planet is running better. His $1.9 million AUD payday is his 3rd 7-figure payday of 2014 in which he has earned over $4 million this year so far. McDonald finished 2nd in the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, 2nd in the 2014 Aussie Millions $100k Challenge and now 3rd in the $250k. With all of his previous success, the 3rd place finish marks a career score for the young Canadian.
Ivey’s good friend, Daniel Negreanu fell in 4th place for $1.25 million AUD helping “Kid Poker” turn his trip down under into a massive profit. Like Haxton, Negreanu reportedly fired multiple shots at the $100k Challenge. Unlike Haxton, Negreanu cashed in that event, recouping his losses and this score can be enjoyed as a top 3 career cash for the veteran. Right behind Negreanu was Quoss ($800,000 AUD) and Dwan ($500,000 AUD).
The $250,000 event offered unlimited reentries which helped propel it to a total of 46 entries, more than double the previous record of entries. The action generated a prize pool of over $11 million AUD with $4 million of that carved out for first place.
This is Phil Ivey’s second victory in this event, which was first introduced in 2011. Back in 2012 when Ivey bested the first of 16, the total prize pool was $4 million AUD, the same as his own payday here. The over $3.5 million USD cash is far and away a career best for Ivey, according to The Hendon Mob, and pushes his career earnings to over $20 million.

Officials at the World Series of Poker have announced online options for satelliting into the 2014 WSOP Main Event, including their massive 25 seat guarantee to be held on July 5.
The WSOP-com “25 Seat Main Event Scramble” promises a prize pool no less than $250,000, allowing for players to take their shot at getting into the main for a $215 buy-in.
The event, held right before the start of the Main Event, will “most likely” be the marquee event for online players to find their way into the ESPN-televised tournament, pokerfuse was informed.
According to WSOP-com Head of Online Poker Bill Rini, should the online site get close to that guarantee in satellite qualifiers then they’ll “be looking at upping that guarantee.”
In fact, WSOP-com have started running satellites to the Main Event in both New Jersey and Las Vegas. On Saturdays, at 7pm local time in both states, the online site is running at $215 buy-in event where at least one seat is guaranteed. Daily qualifiers and single table satellites are available to help players step into this event due to its higher buy-in.
Additionally, on Wednesdays, only in New Jersey, they are offering one 10k seat guarantee tournament, at 7pm EST, for $27.50 (with rebuys and add-ons).
The Main Event isn’t the only WSOP experience you can satellite into though.
“We’re running satellites into $1500 and $10K events. Unless specifically stated, $10K seats can be used in any of the $10K events. All $1500 seats, unless otherwise stated, can also be used for any $1500 event,” Rini told pokerfuse.
Wednesdays at 9pm local time in both NJ and NV players can take their shot at getting a ticket to a $1500 bracelet events for as low as $11.
Players are reminded that all seats won must be played, are not transferable and are not redeemable for cash; players are encouraged to clear their schedule to make sure they can make it out to the Rio this summer. While there’s no estimate of exactly how many players will find their way into the series through satellites, OnlinePokerReport reports that there’s a minimum of 93 seats”:2014 Online Satellites to World Series of Poker Now Live on WSOP-com up for grabs and Rini expect that the number could go up from there.
“We’ll be adding all kinds of satellites as people get in town and we have the liquidity available. We expect SNG satellite action to pick up as more people hit Las Vegas in the summer so it makes a prediction on total number of seats difficult.”
While others may offer packages to the summer series, WSOP-com is the only online poker site offering official seats to the 2014 World Series of Poker.

There have been some changes to tournament structures that have been driving up prize pools and driving up traffic to New Jersey regulated online poker websites during the past week. Let’s take a look at some changes that took place recently and some new promotions being offered.
Party Poker $50k Weekly Guarantee Sunday Major
The weekly $50k guarantee on Party had a new face lift. Some changes to note were:
The tournament now starts at 5PM vs. the old 8PM start time
3 hrs of late registration
New blind structure
$10k guaranteed to the winner of the tournament
This tournament has seen an average of 198 entrants over its first 10 Sundays. The number spiked up to 378 total players this past Sunday. First place paid out $13,286. Party Poker announced that on March 2nd, they will double the guarantee to $100k for the same $200 buy in. It will be interesting to see the turn out for this tournament.
WSOP Satellites, Double APP’s and Nightly Guarantee Changes
On Wednesdays, you can win a seat to the $10,000 WSOP main event seat by playing in the $27.50 rebuy/add on tournament which guarantees 1 seat. It starts at 7PM. You can also win a seat to any WSOP $1,500 buy in event by playing in an $11 rebuy/addon tournaments that starts at 9PM.
Every Saturday they are hosting a $215 WSOP Main Event Satellite for a chance to win a seat valued at $10k to the World Series of Poker Main Event. WSOP.com spreads $11 rebuy/addon qualifiers to this satellite on Wednesdays. The nightly $5k and $10k guarantee tournaments do not run on Wednesday nights when the WSOP satellites are running.
The $5k and $10k nightly guarantees now have unlimited rebuys for 2 hours and an $8k chip add on. Prior to this change, the rebuy period was 1 hour and the chip add-on was $4,500. This saw a boost in the prize pools and almost doubled first place payouts. The guarantee for each tournament has been met every night since the change. The $10k guarantee also saw an increase of players. These used to average about 180-190 players nightly. They now average about 215-220 players. The $5k guarantee averaged about 200 players nightly. They have seen as many as 306 runners at one point.
During February, WSOP is offering double Action Player Points (APP) in their “Game of the Day” promotion. Each day, they have a specific cash game or single table tournament that qualifies for double APP’s.
Ultimate Poker No-verlay Promotion
The No-verlay promotion is running from February 9th through March 9th. Anytime one of Ultimate Poker’s nightly guarantee or weekly guarantee tournaments meet or go over its guarantee prize pool, every player in the tournament gets their initial buy-in back. However, rebuys and add-ons do not count. The refunds are awarded to players in U-dollars and not in cash.
This past Sunday, the $20k guarantee on Ultimate still saw an overlay of $7,988. But the amount of runners did jump to 132 compared to 83 from the previous Sunday. The nightly $5k has been steady at around 40-45 players each night, which is a decrease from the almost 60 runners a night they saw when running their UFC 169 package promotion. The promotion should improve their average of $50% overlays they are currently seeing. Some tournaments may meet the guarantee making it a freeroll for those who participate.

Barona Freeplay Online Poker (www-baronaonlinepoker-com), the only freeplay online poker site in California where players can win real prizes, announced a major poker tournament series today. The third annual Main Event Mania series allows poker players from all over California to play online for entries into the $10,000 buy-in Main Event held annually in Las Vegas. The Main Event is the largest poker tournament -- in fact, the largest tournament of any kind -- anywhere in the world, with a guaranteed $10 million first place prize.
Barona's Main Event Mania started in 2012 with just a handful of players. It has become so successful that Barona has more than doubled the prize pool for this year's event. Main Event Mania III is a series of online poker tournaments that begins on Sunday, March 2 and culminates in a final online event on Saturday, May 17. Players who make it through will play in the Main Event Mania Finals for over $50,000 in entries, including three $10,000 Main Event seats. All final table players will win entries into either the Main Event or one of the preliminary events in the world's best-known poker tournament, along with travel and expenses.
"Main Event Mania is one of the many ways that Barona gives back to our family of players," said Rick Salinas, General Manager of the Barona Resort & Casino. "Barona Freeplay Online Poker has awarded our players over $500,000 in prizes since we launched the freeplay site over two years ago. This year, we're giving every poker player in California the chance to win millions in poker's most prestigious annual event."
Barona Freeplay Online Poker is an entirely free online poker site that anyone of legal age can join. The poker site runs daily and weekly tournaments for great prizes, including weekend stays at the Barona Resort & Casino, restaurant gift certificates, Amazon gift cards and more. The site is 100% free -- players cannot buy chips or otherwise pay to play. Barona operates the online poker site to promote its award-winning Southern California resort, casino and poker room.
Barona Resort & Casino, an AAA Four-Diamond rated property, blends the best of San Diego's leading resorts with the gaming excitement of Las Vegas. While the centerpiece of Barona is an award-winning casino, the resort also features 400 guest rooms and suites all with beautiful views of the Barona Valley, a variety of dining options, the AmBience Day Spa, a full-service events center and the 18-hole championship Barona Creek Golf Club, rated the 4th best resort course in California by Golfweek magazine. Steps satellites starting from 1c lead to a $15,000 prize package on 888’s dot-com poker network. 888poker announced today that satellites are now running on its dot-com international online poker room to win a prize package to the World Series of Poker 2014 Main Event.
Players can start the journey through the satellite steps for as little as a one cent.
The prize package includes six nights’ accommodation at the Palazzo Hotel, $1500 in travel expenses, $500 in spending money and, of course, the $10,000 buyin to the Main Event. This year, there will be a first place prize of at least $10 million.
The choice of the Pallazio is a curious one, considering its owner, Sheldon Adelson, is one of the largest threats to continued liberalization of online gaming in the United States.
In total there are seven steps to win the prize package, and players can jump in at any stage—from a 1c buyin up to then final $1050-buyin Main Event qualifier.
Through a deal with WSOP-brand owners Caesars, 888 holds the rights to use the brand and traditionally runs the official satellites to its European player base each year.
For the first time in WSOP history, there are now regulated online poker rooms in the US. Caesars operates an online poker room in both Nevada and New Jersey, and will be running exclusive satellites in these markets in the build-up to July.

Coming next month is the inaugural New Jersey Championship of Online Poker, aka NJCOP. BorgataPoker-com and NJ-PartyPoker-com will host the series that will run parallel to the live WPT Championship hosted by PartyPoker at the Borgata in Atlantic City. The NJCOP will begin April 19th and finish up on April 27th. The guaranteed prize pool for the Main Event will be worth $200K. The entire series boasts a combined $600K in guaranteed prize pools across 15 tournament events. The Main Event will take place on April 27th at 5:00 p.m. ET and guarantees $50K to the first place finisher.
Mike Sexton, Team PartyPoker captain, says, “If you love poker then you need to be in New Jersey come April 19. The online poker action in New Jersey has been red hot since day one and the New Jersey Championship of Online Poker will be the ultimate test for pros and amateurs alike. What’s more if you are coming from out of town to play the PartyPoker WPT World Championship at Borgata it is timed, so you can make the most of the live and online games!”
He adds, “We believe it is best to be bold in the market.”
The series kicks off with a $50K freeroll at 4:00 p.m. ET on the 19th. All final tablers in this event will then go on to play in every single NJCOP event thereafter, a satellite package worth $2K. With most events featuring NLH, but the schedule is full of interesting elements such as bounty tournaments, a PLO event, a highroller event, a player’s choice event, a six-max, and a couple of re-buy tournaments.
NJ-PartyPoker-com is running qualifiers for all events as of yesterday for as little as $1.

Six events take place at the PokerStars LIVE City of Dreams Casino in Macau, two at the Crown Casino, Melbourne and one each at the: Skycity Auckland Casino, New Zealand; Paradise Walkerhill Casino, Seoul, South Korea, The Star, Sydney, Australia, and the Crown Casino in Perth, Australia.
The Macau events are all subject to regulatory approval.
All the events are now presented on one website. APPT President Danny McDonagh said: “Having the entire Asia-Pacific poker calendar, news, and updates in one location is huge. The APPT website becomes much more user friendly and improving the player experience is something we look to enhance each season.”
He also expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the Aussie Millions under the APPT umbrella. “Linking one of the best tournaments in Asia Pacific with the region’s biggest poker tour benefits everyone,” McDonagh said. “Personally, I can’t wait to again be actively involved in one of the very top big buy-in events in the world.”
The events begin with the 20th Macau Poker Cup on January 10 and ends with the APPT Auckland, in New Zealand on November 19.
