According to Pokerscout-com, a poker information website that counts online poker cash game traffic, Party Poker had been peaking 500-1000 players higher each day than Full Tilt in the weeks before this move. iPoker peaked above Full Tilt as well, though on a smaller scale. Pokerscout ranks online poker rooms on their average player count, not on peak traffic, so this kept Full Tilt at number two due to its consistent traffic patterns until this week.
Party Poker is the new number two online poker room. Their traffic peaks around 6,000 players each day. Their seven day average player count is 3,300.
iPoker is now the number three online poker room. Their traffic peaks at around 5,500 players each day. Their seven day average is 3,150.
Full Tilt Poker averaged over 8,000 players when it reopened in November. Its traffic peaked around 15,000 cash game players. Their traffic has slowly declined to peaks of about 5,000 players and averages about 3,100 players at any given time.
Reasons for the Traffic Changes
The Party Poker Network merged the traffic from their sister site bwin in December 2012. This caused an instant traffic spike of about 30%. The Party Poker Network peaked at 6,523 on the day of the merger and has seen traffic counts of over 7,000 on some days. The network appears to be doing a good job of retaining many of the players that migrated to the network after the merger.
The iPoker Network has seen several large new player pools join the network over the past several months. Late 2012 saw both Everest Poker and Coral Poker join the network. Betfair is now sending all new players to their iPoker2 platform. Existing players may still choose between the Ongame or iPoker2 networks until this summer when all Betfair players will be forced to move to iPoker. Ladbrokes announced last week that they will be moving to iPoker as well. This should cause a large bump in traffic for the network.
Full Tilt Poker is in a tough position when it comes to retaining traffic. Many players flocked there because they had balances locked up at the room or wanted to take advantage of the relaunch promotions such as deposit bonuses and freerolls. As these promotions ended, so did player’s enthusiasm for Full Tilt. Players are able to transfer money between Full Tilt and PokerStars. This gives players little reason to play on Full Tilt as PokerStars has nearly 800% more cash game traffic and much larger tournament pools.
Full Tilt Poker also abandoned their affiliate program when they reopened. Not only did they choose not to reopen with an affiliate program, it was also decided that affiliates would not be paid for their past efforts. This has hurt the company’s relationship with poker website owners and has greatly diminished the brand’s exposure in the online poker world. This could cause additional issues should Full Tilt Poker decide to reopen an affiliate program in the future as its traffic continues to decline.
Author Notes
This has been a long time coming. I made a prediction back in October 2012 that Full Tilt Poker would not retain the number two spot, though this has taken longer than I thought. I also have a wager with another online poker industry member that Full Tilt would not be number two on May 15, 2013. I also win should Full Tilt lose the spot for seven consecutive days before then. They did lose the number two spot for a few days in December, but were able to regain it.
I feel that the combination of player count losses and the addition of large iPoker skins will make it nearly impossible for Full Tilt Poker to regain the number two spot. Players will also continue to have more and more of a reason to simply play on PokerStars as the game selection on Full Tilt Poker continues to deteriorate.
PokerStars deserves a lot of credit for how they handled the Black Friday situation. The Full Tilt Poker bailout is another example of that. I would not be surprised to see the sale of the Full Tilt software at some point down the road to a US gaming company looking for clean software should some states create strict bad actor clauses. It is probably safe to assume that the software is considered clean since it was basically sold by the US Department of Justice, even if it was done through a shotgun wedding.
If Full Tilt Poker’s traffic, which is down about 65% since its peak, continues this slide then dropping the additional brand may become the decision that makes sense for the company that already owns the world’s largest online poker room.
Full Tilt Poker Drops to Number Four Online Poker Network
This year, SCOOP will boast a total of 42 events, an increase from 40 last year. As in previous years, each event will allow players to choose between three buy-in amounts — low, medium and high. This will enable players with any sized bankroll to participate in the 126 total tournaments.
There is a large variety of games on the schedule, including no-limit hold’em, no-limit draw, seven-card stud, Omaha hi-lo, pot-limit Omaha and badugi, among others.
A six-max no-limit hold’em event is the first event on the schedule for the SCOOP series. It is set to begin on May 12 at 11 a.m. ET. The highly-anticipated Main Event is scheduled for Sunday, May 26. The buy-ins for the Main Event are $109 (low), $1,050 (medium) and $10,300 (high).
Last year, Nick “GripDsNutz” Grippo was the eventual winner of the SCOOP Main Event (high), cashing for $798,675 after a three-way chop. In 2011, the Main Event winner was Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro. Kelopuro walked away with $505,000 after completing a five-way deal.
As indicated previously, this SCOOP series schedule is not set in stone. PokerStars is requesting comments and feedback about the various tournaments. Comments in a thread at the TwoPlusTwo forums indicate that there may be some discrepancy over the various pot-limit Omaha events as well as the start and end dates of the tournament. There has also been some discussion that both Saturdays and Sundays should have more events and that Sundays should not exclusively be no-limit hold’em games.
You may send your questions, comments, and overall feedback to .

Known as “the Phenomenon,” Ronaldo is considered one of football’s all-time greatest players, winner of numerous player of the year awards throughout his career and frequently voted as one of the greatest strikers to ever live.
According to a blog post on the PokerStars Latin American Blog, which broke the news late Thursday, Ronaldo will be representing PokerStars both online and in live tournaments in Brazil in coming months.
He will also be participating in advertising campaigns and acting as a brand ambassador for PokerStars.
The high profile signing comes ten months after the signing of Spanish tennis star Rafal Nadal, also considered one of the greatest players of his game.
German tennis champion Boris Becker, Dutch field hockey player Fatima Moreira de Melo and Swedish olympic skier Marcus Hellner complete the now five-strong “SportsStars” team representing the poker room.
The Latin-American Poker Tour (LAPT) hosts a stop in Sao Paulo later this month. Nine events run from April 25-30, and will likely mark Ronaldo’s debut as a PokerStars representative.
Since signing, Nadal has been used in television commercials and a series of promotional web shorts that document him learning the game. He made his online tournament debut in November 2012.
The Ronaldo signing confirms a strong commitment to the Brazillian poker market. Already on the PokerStars Pro roster is Sao Paulo-born André Akkari, and Gualter Salles, a Brazilian professional race car driver, is listed as a “Friend of PokerStars.”

Raymond Bitar, Full Tilt's former CEO, was arrested last July at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport after returning to the U.S. He was originally charged, along with 10 others, in 2011 as part of a U.S. crackdown on illegal Internet gambling.
At a hearing in federal court in Manhattan on Monday, U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska set April 19 as a potential date for Mr. Bitar to enter a guilty plea in his case in California.
John F. Baughman, Mr. Bitar's lawyer, said his client needs a heart transplant and has entered a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. He declined to say what charges Mr. Bitar might plead guilty to.
"It's a very unusual situation," Mr. Baughman said. "We've been able to work out something with the government that takes into account the unique circumstances. We appreciate the government's courtesy in this regard."
Mr. Bitar, 40 years old, was originally charged with conspiracy, wire fraud and money-laundering offenses related to operation of Full Tilt.
So far, seven of the 11 people originally charged have pleaded guilty to criminal charges in the matter, including Nelson Burtnick, a former head of payment processing at Full Tilt and PokerStars, a rival online-poker site. Mr. Bitar would be the eighth person to do so. Three other persons charged are considered at large by U.S. authorities.
Prosecutors have alleged that billions of dollars in payments from U.S. gamblers were disguised by Full Tilt and other online-poker companies as payments to nonexistent online merchants for golf balls, flowers, jewelry and other merchandise.
U.S. authorities in July added allegations that Mr. Bitar defrauded players by using their funds to pay for the company's operations and to make more than $430 million in payments to its owners. Full Tilt allegedly had told players that their funds would be held in "segregated" accounts, prosecutors said.
As a result, Full Tilt was unable to pay about $350 million owed to players in the U.S. and elsewhere, prosecutors said.
In July, PokerStars agreed to pay $731 million to settle a related civil lawsuit by the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations of bank fraud, money laundering and violating U.S. gambling regulations.
As part of the deal, PokerStars, an Isle of Man company, agreed to pay $547 million to the Justice Department and to pay $184 million owed to poker players who were customers of Full Tilt or PokerStars. It also acquired the remaining assets of Full Tilt.
Last month, prosecutors announced that Garden City Group had been named as claims administrator to oversee the process of returning funds to players allegedly defrauded by Full Tilt.
The onetime chief executive of defunct online-poker website Full Tilt Poker has reached a deal to plead guilty to criminal charges as he awaits a heart transplant in California.

Welcome!!
The first is a rather innocent version, Five Card Omaha. In this version of the game, instead of the normal four cards players are dealt on the flop, players receive five cards. The betting rounds are the same as normal Omaha (pre-flop, post-flop, turn and river) and there are the five community cards that are common with those games. At showdown, a player must use two (and only two) of their hole cards in coordination with three of the community cards to make the best five card hand.
This variation of the game, with its five hole cards, offers players many more potential combinations than were already available under the previous four card Omaha format. PokerStars, in addition to offering it in cash games and tournaments, offers the game in Pot Limit and No Limit formats. PokerStars has also made a Hi/Lo version available for those who have a proclivity at that style of poker.
The other new Omaha variation offered by PokerStars is actually a variation on the Five Card Omaha version. Called Courchevel, players receive the same five cards that Five Card Omaha does on the deal. The variation comes after that point; the first card of the flop is dealt before players begin the pre-flop betting phase. With one-third of the flop on the table, players can make a decision (with their five hole cards) whether to continue on with the hand or discard it there.
After the pre-flop round of betting is done, the completion of the flop is dealt with the other two cards. Another round of betting commences, after which the turn comes down. Another round of betting brings the players to the river and a final round of bets. At showdown, like Omaha and the five cards version, a player must use two (and only two) hole cards with three of the community cards on the table.
Courchevel brings several exciting elements to what is already a breathtaking game. Players should be able to make a more educated decision by seeing the first of the community cards before they continue pre-flop. It is offered in Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit versions and a Hi/Lo version is offered. At this time, Courchevel appears to only be offered in a cash game format.
The new games come on the heels of the introduction of new games at their competitor/sister site, Full Tilt Poker. Roughly ten days ago, Full Tilt Poker introduced Five Card Stud to their repertoire of games, but the big new addition was Irish Poker. In what seems to be a mix of several variations of poker, Irish Poker starts with four hole cards dealt to the players. After the flop, players still in the hand must discard two cards from their four hole cards if they want to continue. As with the flop games, the winner is determined by the best five card combination after the betting round on the river.
The new additions on PokerStars (and that of its sister Full Tilt) should only serve to enhance their already dominant position in the online poker industry. According to PokerScout-com, PokerStars’ seven day average for cash game players (the grading standard in the industry) is 23,400 with a peak number of 37,947. To put this in perspective, the second place site, PartyPoker, has a seven day average of 3300 players and peaked at 5620, over seven times the average less and a whopping eleven times less than the peak that PokerStars achieves.

Some areas take additional steps to make the desk look more life like. Like poker rooms such as Pokerroom-com have added folks as prototypes to their tables. Other areas such as Paradise Poker do not have individuals at their tables, but have added options where a player can order a beverage or snack from a menu. This is something that individually keeps players amused, however so somewhat, while waiting in between hands.
Yet another alternative to stability into the formula is the quality of the game play. Make sure the space chosen offers most of the features you have to make action interesting and easy. Determine if it is simple to follow the activity happening in the desk. Some rooms such as Pokerroom-com emphasize the participant whose turn it is to behave. This appears obvious, but some areas don’t offer this alternative. The player should record the action within the speak discussion box. If however, you are playing several tables, then you might need to have the ability to swiftly click back and forth between tables and discover where the action is visually without having to search through a chat package to find out.
Lastly, take into consideration software and host dependability. That is outlined third here, but may be the most significant aspect in selecting a web-based poker room. It is undoubtedly no fun to need to be always disconnected from your room throughout play, especially when a crucial decision must be made. If you find you should combat this issue generally with your on line poker room it will add extra pressure for the online poker encounter.
Relaxation

There are few people who were caught up in the wheeling and dealing that were happy with the eventual outcome created by the US Department of Justice. The Dof J had a lot to do after labeling the Full Tilt Poker entity a $350 million dollar Ponzi scheme. Howard Lederer, Rafe Furst and former Poker champion Chris Ferguson all settled their civil charges after agreeing to huge penalties in exchange for no admittance of guilt or wrongdoing while they were active in the firm.
After receiving a mind numbing fine of $40 million USD Raymond Bitar, founder of the company pleaded guilty to bank fraud, money laundering, and illegal gambling. The lucky executive does have a heart condition perhaps caused by the stress of facing up to thirty five years in jail. Bitar many think got off light with a sentence of time served and of course the huge fine.
The online poker site held out safe and secure banners attracting millions of dollars and players. The company did not however keep accounts of players separate from operating capital in the company. The use of well known and trusted professional poker players enabled the poker room to maintain a massive volume of customers. U.S. player who have money frozen in the old Full Tilt firm should look to PokerStars. Statements from the DOJ that it is nearing a repayment process is not for sure but then again no one was really held responsible for this debacle.

The Rational Group, which owns PokerStars, went to court in New Jersey on Monday and got a temporary restraining order barring The Atlantic Club from selling itself to anyone else. Last week, The Atlantic Club declared that the deal for PokerStars to buy the casino was dead, but has declined to comment further.
In its court papers, PokerStars also revealed for the first time just how cheaply it plans to acquire the casino: $15 million. That is $5 million less than the previous low price that a California company had offered for Trump Plaza before that deal fell apart last month, and would be—by far—the lowest price ever paid for a casino in Atlantic City.
In applying for the restraining order, PokerStars argued that it has given The Atlantic Club $11 million of the $15 million purchase price. But in return, PokerStars claims, The Atlantic Club wants to kill the deal and receive an additional $4 million as a termination fee.
"Should Rational comply with this demand, Rational would have paid the entire purchase price and received exactly nothing in return," the company wrote in its court papers.
They also said The Atlantic Club demanded an additional $6 million to extend the sale contract for another 10 days—during which they would still be free to seek a better offer from someone else. Rational said it offered to pay the remaining $4 million in return for extending the sale contract until approval could be obtained from New Jersey casino regulators, but that The Atlantic Club's owners, Los Angeles-based Colony Capital LLC, declined.
Rational also says it paid more than $224,000 to start work on a poker club inside the casino, and on upgrades elsewhere within it.
In February, New Jersey legalized Internet gambling.
"It is likely that the defendants believe that in light of this development they can now sell The Atlantic Club to another buyer while keeping the $11 million paid to them by Rational, which made it possible for The Atlantic Club to continue operating throughout the tough winter season, The Rational Group wrote in its court papers.
Officials from The Atlantic Club and Colony Capital declined comment Monday.
"The Rational Group has funded Atlantic Club shortfalls throughout the winter season since October 2012, preventing its bankruptcy and the loss of over 1,800 jobs," said Eric Hollreiser, a spokesman for PokerStars. "The Rational Group remains entirely committed to resolving this situation, and to its investment in New Jersey, while it continues to diligently work on completing the required licensing process."
The transaction had been seen as mutually beneficial because the casino has struggled for years near the bottom of Atlantic City's 12 casinos in terms of revenue and profitability. And the deal would give PokerStars a much-sought-after on-ramp to the lucrative online gambling market expected to develop in New Jersey, one of three states with legalized Internet gambling, along with Nevada and Delaware.
New Jersey casino regulators have been examining the Rational Group's application to buy a casino, but no decision was imminent.
The parties' deal to finalize a purchase of the casino by April 26 did not take into account how long it might take to assemble and submit the many documents and exhibits necessary to win approval from the Casino Control Commission, which was considered to still be months away from an examination of whether the Rational Group would qualify for a casino license in New Jersey.
An important part of what they would eventually have to consider is the company's history of taking bets in the U.S. before it was explicitly legal. It was one of three companies targeted by the U.S. Justice Department in 2011 in a crackdown on then-illegal Internet gambling that came to be known in the poker community as "Black Friday."
The Rational Group agreed last year to pay $547 million to the Justice Department and $184 million to poker players overseas to settle a case alleging money laundering, bank fraud and illegal gambling. It admitted no wrongdoing, and says it is in good standing with governments around the world.
That situation was expected to pose a difficult hurdle to the company's efforts to win licensing from New Jersey casino regulators, and the trade association representing the nation's brick and mortar casinos strongly opposes the deal. The American Gaming Association applied to intervene in PokerStars' licensing hearing, wanting to argue against the proposed purchase.
Rational said in its court papers that The Atlantic Club's owners approached them about a sale, stressing the casino's "difficult financial situation" and "huge liabilities including more than $30 million in unfunded pension liabilities." The company said that the Atlantic Club repeatedly stressed that if a deal could not be reached quickly, the casino would declare bankruptcy, jeopardizing 1,800 jobs.
Rational agreed to finance the casino's losses while the application process was under way—up to $750,000 per week—to be counted against the eventual purchase price.
The Atlantic Club has struggled against newer, larger casinos both in Atlantic City and in neighboring states, and nearly closed several years ago. Recently, its decision to adopt a value-priced strategy with inexpensive food and drinks, free parking and low-roller casino tables, with gambling chips as low as 25 cents, has shown some success.
But The Rational Group claims that is only because it was subsidizing the casino's losses.

Rush Poker went mobile at the end of 2010 with a Flash application for Android mobile devices. iPhone users had to wait six months more before an iOS version was released.
The new release is also based on HTML 5 and the login screen and touch technology appear to be replicas of the old Full Tilt version. Full Tilt’s Shyam Marcus, posting on 2+2, says that this is “a fairly temporary solution” and once a native application is developed, “we will likely toss out the HTML5 app.”
The yet to be developed versions will be available for both Android and iOS devices, but their release is “still a good number of months off.” Apparently the previous Android app was unable to be resuscitated.
Mobile poker is a fast growing area in the online poker industry. Svenska Spel’s latest report identified mobile gaming as the fastest growing part of its Swedish market. In combination with Rush Poker, which was the first fast fold poker game launched, Full Tilt has a product which could deliver a sizeable proportion of the growth the company is looking to achieve.
Sister company PokerStars already has iOS and Android apps where their own fast fold product—Zoom— is available. iPoker, which Full Tilt has just overtaken in the traffic rankings has yet to launch its own mobile client but this is expected very soon. It is not yet known whether it will include access to its fast fold game, Speed Poker.

Online companies are expected to be scrambling for land and casinos in states like Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware, which recently passed laws allowing online gambling if it is affiliated with in-state casinos. Similar bills have also been introduced in Pennsylvania and Illinois.
Pokerstars, part of the online gambling corporation Rational Group, based in the U.K., struck a deal earlier this year to buy the Atlantic Club, an 800-room hotel and casino on the Atlantic City boardwalk, according to paperwork filed with the state's division of gaming enforcement.
The move came after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie signed a law Feb. 26 allowing online gambling for residents as long as the games were hosted by in-state casinos located in Atlantic City.
The company, which was previously indicted by the Department of Justice for offering online gambling to U.S. residents, wants to legally operate its website and the casino, according to its owners. They reportedly paid about $30 million for the casino.
"In a nutshell, the future of gaming will require a mix of online and offline expertise," Eric Hollreiser, spokesman for Pokerstars, told ABCNews-com in an email. "We are the world's largest online poker company and one of the largest producers of live poker tournaments in the world, which we produce in many of the world's best known casinos."
Hollreiser said that the proposed business model would help drive online gamers into casinos for live tournaments, and remind casino-goers to log on and game at home until their next visit.
"We drive traffic from our online tournaments to our major casino partners around the world. This drives a poker tourism business in cities such as London, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, (and) Rio," he said. "The traffic runs both ways as we introduce new audiences to poker in these live tournaments."
Pokerstars is awaiting approval from the Division of Gaming Enforcement and the state's Casino Control Commission. If it goes through, it could represent the first time a gaming website has transformed into owning and operating a hotel and casino.
The development could send waves through the gaming industry.
"The casino-going population is older. You have this huge bubble of younger people who have never gone to a casino or intend to go to one, but spend half their waking life on smartphones or computers, playing games, social networking. So how does the gaming industry respond?" said Joe Brennan, director of the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMega), who has studied the effects of disruption on the gaming industry.
Because states are requiring online gamers to have a casino in the state, companies on both sides of the issue are rushing to take advantage of business opportunities. Casinos are partnering with online gamers or developing their own web games, while online poker giants are rushing to find real estate in states where casinos are legal, Brennan said. "Pokerstars is indicative of this: that online giants aren't going to sit back and let U.S. (casino) companies eat their lunch. They built their industry and I don't think they're going to passively sit back and allow it to be acquired," Brennan said.
The American Gaming Association, the casino industry's main lobby, filed a brief opposing Pokerstars' application to buy and operate the New Jersey casino.
Frank Fahrenkopf, president and CEO of AGA, declined to comment on the brief, but insisted that the AGA supported the future of online gaming and would like to see the industry federally regulated.
He insisted that legalization of online gambling won't cut into the profits of casinos.
"We did some studies a few years ago and looked at the question of whether or not online poker would cannibalize our brick and mortar businesses, and we came to the conclusion that it would probably not be a cannibalization but a new profit center," Fahrenkopf said. "A lot of the people online tend to be young men, with a higher education and a little higher income than the average player, and these people historically have not gone to casinos."
In the race to serve both online and in-person gaming audiences, the odds favor the online gaming operators, according to Brennan. The casinos are typically enormous hotels that have struggled, especially in Atlantic City, in past years as casinos have cropped up in neighboring states.
"A lot of these online gaming companies have cash on hand, whereas you look at the biggest and best of the brick and mortar companies and they're challenged. They're saddled with debt. They don't have a lot of cash on hand," Brennan said. Still, as the companies adapt to the changing marketplace, both the brick-and-mortar shops and the web-based businesses could benefit, he said.
"Brick and mortar casinos are not just going to drop off the face of the earth. People are not playing at the same stakes online as they are in casinos. It's much smaller stakes," Brennan said. "The world leading poker companies, over 90 percent of users are playing at a penny or a dollar per hand. You can't sit down at table in Atlantic City or Las Vegas for those kind of table stakes. It seems like a fantastic opportunity to start grooming those players to take a visit to Atlantic City or Vegas."
