Both sides are involved in games, but the Poker Players Alliance and the National Football League are on different sides of this question:

Should gambling be legalized on the Internet? (YES)

The Poker Players Alliance plans to spend $3 million to lobby Congress to overturn an Internet gambling ban, or at least carve out an exemption that would legalize and regulate online poker.

The NFL, with a lobbying effort of its own here, says such legalized gambling would be a threat to the "integrity of our game.'' 😄

The hundreds of thousands of people who use online gambling sites around the US, previously dismissed as a minority, and oppressed by laws are beginning to fight back by declaring their political power and getting legislative allies on side.

Now with more than a million members, the PPA is able to exercise its political influence with $3 million being spent on lobbying to protest the anti-gambling efforts being made by the NFL and the Christian Coalition. For those of you interested in the state of U.S. online Poker, here is some good news. We may be getting a big boost from my home state, California. Arnold (The Govenator!) and some politicians worried about the budget and their re-election, have introduced legislation to legalize internet gaming. They have proposed a law to regulate and “protect” the people of California and increase tax revenues. It’s about time someone saw the light!! Since they succeeded in re-writing the Indian gaming law about 18 month’s ago, look for this legislation to pass. It can very well be a MAJOR turning point for U.S. online gaming. As things progress I will keep yall posted.

The latest clash in the marathon 50 000 hand, multi-table online poker challenge between Finnish pro Patrik Antonius and Tom 'durrr' Dwan has seen the fighting Finn move significantly closer to winning the million-and-a-half dollar wager by convincingly defeating Dwan, creating an almost $500 000 lead for himself.

42 hours into the challenge, Antonius outplayed Dwan, taking several significant pots to put him $ 488 133 ahead as the two battled to the 13 246 hands played in the challenge. A stunning $ 81 244 200 has been wagered on the sessions played thus far. Dwan lost $328 470 in this one clash, which generated an average pot size of $ 4 364.

The latest session was brief at just over 30 minutes and 300 hands, but decisive for Antonius, and leaves Dwan with a large gap to close, although there is still plenty of time left in the challenge.

Harrahs is starting a new tradition this year by inviting all WSOP event winners back to the Amazon Room the day after their victory to present them with their bracelets.

The ceremony will take place daily at 2:20 PM and will be presided over by WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, who will present the Corum bracelet just as players are returning from their first break of the day, ensuring a decent crowd of observers. That is, if the events actually start on time, something not always guaranteed.

A Bracelet Ceremony Stage (BCS) will be set up in the Amazon Ballroom and will exclude schools from the mid-major conferences even if they did go undefeated like Utah in the 2008-2009 season….wait, sorry, wrong BCS. It's Friday, forgive us.

Along with their WSOP bracelets, WSOP event winners will also receive a year of "Diamond" status at all Harrahs properties, as has become customary. Once again, the bracelets will be designed and provide by Corum.

The first bracelet ceremony is slated for Monday, June 1 and will continue daily through the first day of the Main Event, July 3, where the winners of Events #54 & #55 on July 1st will be asked to return on July 3 to be awarded their bracelets, due to the fact no new tournaments are slated on July 2 (Day Off!!1😡!!111!)

If you want to be one of the players receiving their bracelet as part of this new ceremony, then check out Bodog Poker's 2009 WSOP online satellites for a chance to win a $12,000 WSOP Main Event package.

When it became public knowledge that President Barack Obama had a penchant for the casual poker game, it became a viable consideration that the then-presidential candidate would be open to pro-poker legislation if he was voted into the highest office in the United States. More than 100 days into his presidency, after having asked for Americans to voice their opinions about important issues via the White House Citizen’s Briefing Book, Obama will be faced with the issue of legalizing online poker because it ranked as the top technology issue by the American people.

There have been several crucial steps taken in the past few months that suggest online poker may be removed from the ‘banned for your own good’ list it currently resides on. With our poker friendly President, and with the PPA pounding the pavement around Washington, as well as continuing its grass roots campaigns across the country, legalized online poker may be a real possibility sooner than expected.

A Swedish appeals court greatly reduced the sentences for four men convicted for illegally arranging the 2007 European Poker Challenge, based largely on expert court testimony showing that Texas Hold'em tournaments are more skill than luck. The Local news reports that experts believe this ruling may pave the way for more competition for Sweden's state-owned gambling monopoly, Svenska Spel.
