As the Obama administration and the new Congress evaluate their policy priorities, they cannot ignore the significant challenge to fund these programs given our nation’s financial situation. Our new leaders have been dealt a struggling economy, and even President Barack Obama can agree that tax increases to pay for his agenda won’t reveal the winning hand, politically or practically. A possible solution, however, is not out of reach. Our new president needs only to look at his favored form of skillful avocation: poker..........

With two sizeable stimulus packages on the table totaling over $1 trillion, part of the money to fund such programs may come from new forms of revenue. A simple solution, according to D’Amato, who spoke on behalf of the online poker industry, is to tax and regulate the game we all enjoy. He commented, “The online poker industry and the millions of Americans who play on the internet have been crying out for regulation and taxation. The absence of government regulation, and in fact the quixotic efforts to ban internet poker, has left U.S. consumers vulnerable and left billions in potential tax revenue on the virtual poker table.” It’s not very often that an industry volunteers to become taxed and regulated by the U.S. Government. However, in the case of online poker, online poker has held its hand high.

Famous actor Steve Martin told David Letterman a story in an interview about how he one night took an Ambien and played poker for money on the Internet. Martin admitted to liking the game of poker, but claimed that he has stopped playing when it became illegal.

The only problem is that online poker is not illegal in the US. Martin's perception of Internet gambling laws in the US is one that is shared by many people, even though it is incorrect.

(Poker is not a game of chance and therefore is not covered by UIGEA rules).

Mac poker players - Your options at the tables have gotten a little bit broader. Recently, online poker room Bodog launched an Instant Play option that allows users to play on its software in a web browser. However, the new feature is limited to one table, making multi-tabling impossible for the foreseeable future.

(The Instant Play software opens in a matter of seconds and takes users to a replica of the main cash game lobby found on Bodog).

Pai Gow Poker and Three-Card Poker are the most popular poker-themed casino games. It's a no-brainer which game is better if you know anything about the two games. Pai Gow Poker is the better game because you can act as the bank, and lower the house edge against you. In Three-Card Poker the house edge can be as high as 2.5%, if you play to optimum Q-6-4 strategy.

The edge in Pai Gow Poker will change based on the amount bet when you're the player and the amount bet when you bank action. Your skill level at setting hands will also affect the odds the house will have against you. Pai Gow has more strategy involved than Three-Card Poker, and is more challenging and fun to play. And banking hands in Pai Gow Poker can produce a faster profit in a short amount of time when you win them.

You can play Pai Gow Poker at: Bodog Casino

California lawmakers are working to pass a measure that would legalize online poker. The state, which has been among the hardest hit by the current recession, would welcome some already existing online poker rooms.

From city to city, state to state, the US truly seems to be on its way closer to legalizing online poker. Several recent court rulings have deemed poker a “game of skill”, while other legislative matters seem to be leaning towards amending the UIGEA.
