Representative Jim McDermott oif Washington compared the move to bar online gambling with Prohibition, and said that the US is better served regulating Internet casinos rather than trying to ban them. McDermott has authored a bill which would allocate funds generated by taxation of online casinos.
"Regulation and taxation have proven to be better policy for our country when it comes to alcohol," said McDermott over the failed Prohibition experiment. "The same is true for online gambling."

You knew it was only a matter of time before Microsoft’s Xbox 360 came up with its own version of the incredibly popular Wii, and that time is at hand with the new Kinect.
Microsoft hosted a special performance by Cirque du Soleil at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on Sunday night to formally unveil Kinect for Xbox 360. The system, formerly known as Project Natal, is Microsoft's new motion controller similar to the Wii. There are supposedly going to be around 12 games available when Kinect launches later this year.
There has been no official word of a launch date, but you can be sure it will hit before Christmas. Reportedly it will happen in November. As for pricing, the more expensive version will be at $189, or just lower than the Wii. In addition, Microsoft is expected to introduce a slimmer version of the Xbox 360 with 250GB storage and integrated Wi-Fi.
First reviews of the Kinect haven’t been great. Basically it turns the bodies of game players into human console controllers – you are your own avatar in games and it’s hands-free. You put a sensor, like for the Wii, above or below your TV. It also has three cameras plus voice recognition built in, so it knows far away you're standing and how you are moving. Attached to the Xbox 360 game console, the device interprets gestures, such as when players swing their arms to hit a golf ball, lean to steer their way through an obstacle course or swivel their hips through a dance routine. It can also recognize faces and associate them with their profiles.
Sounds interesting to say the least. I'm also sure Nintendo will come out with something new for the Wii as well.

Liquor is easier to tax(tangible). I like his thinking just not sure how he would accomplish it.

The Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act was passed after midnight on the final day of congressional action prior to the 2006 election. The bill was never debated – heck, it was never even read by any of the congressmen who voted for it. Tennessee Republican Bill Frist was courting right wing anti-gaming interests in a last ditch effort to run for president when he attached the UIGEA as a rider to a ‘must pass’ Port Security bill. Frist’s ploy worked, and UIGEA became law, but Frist paid the price for his backhanded maneuver. His presidential run never got off the ground, and he’s no longer in politics today.

(So far, the process has advanced quickly, which offshore regulators didn’t expect. For that reason, the latest postponement in regulating online gambling isn’t surprising. The implementation of legalized online casinos usually takes a while. All required formalities have to be carried out. A country should be completely prepared to offer support services to all new segments and components of a fully regulated online gambling business.)

Antigua has been white listed by the UK Gaming Commission but this partnership will not enable Kahnawake license holders to gain the same standing with the UK gaming regulators. Kahnawake’s online gaming operations have existed for over a decade in Canada, but just recently the Canadian provinces have begun offering government owned online gambling. Kahnawake has over 50 licensees while Antigua currently has only about a dozen.

The Times revealed that more "than half of the state's casinos and gaming rooms, welfare recipients can get cash from state-issued EBT cards."
Now state capitol center Sacramento is reportedly considering action to end this.
The Times writes: "California welfare recipients are able to use state-issued debit cards to withdraw cash on gaming floors in more than half of the casinos in the state... The cards, provided by the Department of Social Services to help recipients feed and clothe their families, work in automated teller machines at 32 of 58 tribal casinos and 47 of 90 state-licensed poker rooms."
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vows to change this.
"We have instructed our vendors to prohibit these cards from being accepted at ATMs located in casinos and card rooms," Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said Wednesday. "It is reprehensible that anyone would use taxpayer money for anything other than its intended purpose."
McLear said the system of paying out welfare benefits via bank cards was created under Schwarzenegger's predecessor, Democrat Gray Davis. The welfare cards, Electronic Benefit Transfer cards, look like ordinary debit cards. They allow welfare recipients to access cash and food stamps.
The Times reports that Schwarzenegger had threatened to eliminate the state welfare program in his May budget proposal.
