Americans looking to satisfy their gambling itch can do so now at the close to 1,700 casinos across the country. A bill in the House of Representatives could bring casino gambling to the approximately 86.8 million American homes with Internet access.

Reps. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and Jim McDermott, D-Wash., are leading a group that proposes to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which is set to go into effect June 1. Their plan would legalize and tax online gambling.

"American adults want to be able to do what they want with their own money without the government interfering," Frank said.

FAILED Brisbane internet tycoon Daniel Tzvetkoff is to be released on bail in Las Vegas, with his father putting up his $1.1 million home as surety according to the Australian.

A US Federal Court judge has today agreed to release Mr Tzvetkoff, disagreeing with a government lawyer that the bankrupt Australian was a flight risk.

According to The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, a new study from market intelligence company H2 found that new projects regulating all forms of Internet gambling in the US would create up to 32,000 jobs over nearest five years.

The release of this study complies with legislation in Congress to regulate Internet gambling, which is led by House Committee Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank.

Even Michael Douglas’ wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Miami Heat president Pat Riley (a friend of Michael Douglas) asked Judge Richard M. Berman to go lenient on Cameron, and he did get off lighter than an average Joe: Cameron Douglas was facing a mandatory 10 years in prison for a charge of conspiracy to distribute drugs. He apologized before sentencing and admitted that he had squandered a lot of opportunities to turn his life around, but the judge wasn’t buying all the letters claiming Cameron was a “victim.” And early in the sentencing hearing the judge said he wasn’t confident that Cameron would turn his back on drugs after pleading guilty in January to charges that he dealt large quantities of meth and cocaine.

The judge noted that Cameron, an occasional actor and ex-DJ, will get credit for the eight months he has already served in jail. And if he gets into a drug-treatment program behind bars, then Douglas could have another year shaved off his sentence. He told Douglas the prison stint is his "last chance to make it."

Cameron was arrested last summer for dealing crystal meth out of hotel in New York’s Meatpacking District and then arrested again when his girlfriend tried to smuggle him drugs in an electric toothbrush while in jail (that's just genius).

The New York media seems to be very critical of the judge being rather lenient in this case. Isn’t a legal minimum a legal minimum? Apparently not, and that has some in the Big Apple thinking Cameron got special treatment. Gee, a famous family getting special treatment? Welcome to America.

A bill now in the New Hampshire House that attempts to close the state's budget gap could become the next battleground for expanded gambling.

State Rep. Steve Vaillancourt, a Manchester Republican, plans to propose an amendment to the budget bill that would legalize slot machines but put them under state control.

Vaillancourt's proposal differs on several points from the plan to legalize slots that died Wednesday in the House - a plan Gov. John Lynch had promised to veto. It would shrink the number of slot machines allowed statewide to 6,000 from 17,000. It would establish an open bidding process for the sites of six casinos, rather than use pre-selected sites like the earlier bill. And it would increase the state's share from gambling earnings to 60 percent while setting up a Gambling Oversight Authority and making casino workers state employees.


(Lawmakers have also kept an eye on Massachusetts, whose legislature is moving to legalize casinos. Gambling supporters here worry the state could lose money if Massachusetts sets up its own gambling sites and New Hampshire fails to act.)

Alabama and New Hampshire have both killed bills that would have expanded gambling.

In Alabama, SB 380 would have allowed a vote this November on electronic bingo, but it was pulled from consideration by the sponsor.

Catherine Snow, senior adviser with Citizens for a Better Alabama, said even if it had gone to voters, it would not have completely killed electronic bingo in the state.

"If it went to the people and they voted it down, we would be back right where we are: status quo."

The New Hampshire House defeated a bill that would have brought in six casinos and 17,000 slot machines.

Les Bernal, executive director for Stop Predatory Gambling, said the victory goes to the people and their lawmakers.

"New Hampshire has really shown a lot of leadership," he said, "to remind us what America is about." :thumbsup

Courtney Love is either losing her mind or really, really, trying to get back in the public eye again.

A report came out Tuesday that Love was changing her stage name, telling NME-com that "Courtney Love is dead."

"We've all decided we don't like her any more. We love her when she does onstage, but I don't need her in the rest of my life," she said. "The name Courtney Love is a way to oppress me." 😄😄😄

It has to benefit the government before they will let us spend our own money. I guess I've always figured if I was old enough to fight and die for my country then I was old enough to spend my money the way I wanted !

Hopefully they'll regulate it too...but as long as the big casinos have their well paid lobbyists I don't see it happening all that quickly

Now we just get penalized for not getting coverage, insurance companies can deny coverage to anyone they want still, they just can't SAY it's due to a preexisting condition, and the ONLY benefit that would help me in any way (being able to stay on a parent's health insurance until 26 won't do me any good since i'll be 29 when the law goes into effect in 2014...so obama (which we americans say stands for One Big Ass Mistake America) really didn't get an actual victory at all...just an overly compromised policy shift that won't actually benefit anyone at all. Thanks Congress.

Agreed the first one was better...I felt they tried to force the "mystical message" qualities of the first film waay too much though, and the delivery of a lot of the catchphrase kind of lines seemed too canned as compared to the first film, but definitely worth watching

A new online service provider by Tibboh has had discussions with the British Board of Film Classification to devise a similar age categorizing system as films to help protect minors across three billion website addresses. The sites in question include: poker, bingo, casino and social networking sites.

The new service will work on the same premise as the BBFC, with websites having their own age certificate from U to 18 meaning that children are protected from accessing casinos and poker rooms and will be unable to view such sites until they are of the correct age.

The system will feature a unique login for users which will record their age and prevent them from accessing sites which are deemed as unsuitable.

Speaking to the Independent, director of the Family Online Safety Institute, David Miles, commented: “Parents are looking for a commonality between DVD and film classification and the net and Tibboh should be commended for this."

However it has been noted that Tibboh’s censorship system could be as much of a hindrance as a help, blocking websites that are useful to both parents and children.
