Talking only about wins, not losses
Missing household or personal items
Becoming withdrawn from family and friends
Use of credit cards to gamble

US is in hot water with the European Commission over their online gambling laws. They have given the US a grace period to come into compliance or risk a problem with the World Trade Organization.

The US and EC have been in contact, and they have said they are attempting to resolve the dispute. Unlike his predecessor, President Obama has addressed problems that other countries have had with the US, as opposed to simply turning their back on these countries.

The desire of Obama to reach out is what has people believing that he will eventually oversee the changing of online gambling laws. There have been two proposals offered in regards to online gambling in the past several months.

Wednesday was a day of hope for anyone in the US who enjoys online casinos.

Millions of people have found joy in online entertainment and now those same players can find convenience in it as well. Prepaid credit cards is a great way to avoid all the hassle of transaction rejection.

(Prepaid Credit Cards are used just like a regular credit card, only merchants view them a little different. See when a person purchases a prepaid credit card, which can be done with a regular credit card, the funds have already been collected and what you choose to do with those funds is really at your discretion. Obtaining a prepaid credit card can be done at a local grocery store, gas station and sometimes even online).

Twitter's site crashed on Thursday at about 3pm BST due to a "denial of service" attack – thousands of remote-controlled virus-infected PCs trying to contact the site.

Though the site came back up after an hour, the company said it was "continuing to defend against and recover from this attack".

The company's status blog says that: "We are defending against a denial-of-service attack, and will update status again shortly."

(DDOS attacks have become relatively commonplace online, but this is believed to be the first time that Twitter has been targeted. As companies get larger and more geographically distributed, they can handle such attacks because their servers are remote from each other. Twitter however is still comparatively small, with most of its resources in the US).

Casino and churches do not go hand in hand. Churches, in fact, have been the driving force behind may casino expansion plans that have been foiled. In Ohio, a church group is looking to go to the well one more time.

The casino issue is one that has been around for many years in the state of Ohio. Voters have turned away casino expansion several times before, but this time support is growing for casinos.

One of the major concerns on the church group is the idea that eighteen year-olds would be allowed to gamble legally. That is something the group cannot overlook.

South Africa is hot on the trail to legalizing and regulating online gambling as the government is actively seeking examples of regulatory framework from other governments, Antigua in particular. The National Gambling Board of South Africa is visiting Antigua until the 14th of this month with the goal of establishing regulation for online gambling as a means of income for the South African government.

(Antigua and Barbuda view this week as an excellent opportunity to boost its status as a shining example of the proper regulation of online gaming).

This past week there were several US based casino companies that reached prices they had not seen yet this year. Las Vegas Sands had been experiencing some of the best increases all week. It closed the week higher than it had in any previous week of 2009.

Wynn Resorts is one of the companies that has managed to stay above water during this tough economic time. Their $57.15 closing price Friday represented the highest of any US based casino company.

Ireland has a huge opportunity to establish itself as a major hub of the online gaming sector. There is a very tight timeline for Ireland to get this right. The UK has already moved to put a regulatory structure in place to capture this vibrant industry, but it got its taxation structure for the industry wrong. France and Spain are working on the legislation, so Ireland needs to hurry up............

Several online gambling operators have invested tens of millions of dollars lobbying US lawmakers in attempts to shape the future US gaming market.

According to an article in the Telegraph, PartyGaming, PokerStars, and Sportingbet all have hired lobbyists to represent their specific and individual interests with US lawmakers. US casino companies will get a huge advantage on licensing when the US laws change. Clearly, foreign online operators sense this possibility, and are willing to spend vast sums to avoid seeing this happen.

Both PartyGaming and Sportingbet are currently involved in ongoing negotiations over previous online gaming actions, and a positive change in the law could save them millions in legal expenses and settlement pay-outs in addition to re-positioning them to enter the lucrative US gambling market when the new laws are applied.

Companies like PartyGaming suffered significant falls in profits following the ban in the US back in 2006. However, they have witnessed several other large gaming companies continue to accept American customers with little or no objection from US officials.

It has been reported that the UC Group, a lobbying organisation that represents 10 online gambling companies, has spent an estimated US$5.33m on lobbying the US government to overturn the ban on payments to gambling websites.

According to a report in The Telegraph newspaper, companies such as Partygaming, Sportingbet and PokerStars were pouring money into the UC Group to put pressure on Congress to change the current laws on gaming. They have also lobbied UK politicians in the hope that they will also help push for the legalisation of egaming in the US.

Problem gambling can start at a yopung age. That is what many counselors will tell people who are looking for statistics on problem gambling. In Singapore, only three percent of youths are affected by problem gambling.

he results of the study were that three in every 100 youths are considered problem gamblers.

The regulatory system in Nevada has worked for decades, and would almost certainly be the model followed for Internet gambling. Several big gaming companies, including Harrah's Entertainment, have begun to prepare for legalized Internet gambling. If the US changes their online gaming laws.

Whenever the time comes, Nevada and their casinos will be ready. What was once the enemy has now become part of the solution. Online gambling is no longer a threat to Nevada casinos, it is a necessity that could save a floundering industry.

The first "internet addiction center" in the U.S. has been opened, promising to treat people with World of Warcraft or text messaging hangups for just under $15,000 a head. The reStart Internet Addiction Recovery Program offers a 45-day treatment program "designed specifically to help internet and video game addicts overcome their dependence on gaming, gambling, chatting, texting and other aspects of internet addiction." The center claims that 6-10 percent of internet users are "dependent on one or more aspects of cyber-technology," but adds that rates of addiction among MMOG players appear to run much higher.
