The U.S. third circuit court of appeals upheld the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act this week, rejecting the argument that the law should be repealed because it was unconstitutional. The Interactive Media Entertainement and Gaming Association, the organization that brought the case to the court, says that it is considering an appeal, but it has not immediately filed one.

The court made it clear - gambling on the Internet is unlawful where state law says so,” --- “But there are only a half-dozen states which have laws against Internet gambling, leaving 44 states where it is potentially lawful. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good start. :dirol

Casino gambling is soon to become a reality in Jamaica. When opening the first casino in Jamaica, it is hoped the prime minister would step up to the table and be the first to spin the roulette wheel - The Wheel of Fortune - as a good luck gesture for the future of the industry. 😄

After selling the online gaming business to the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, Ayre appeared to have vanished. It turned out that this couldn't be further from the truth as we now know that during this time he had been developing a renewed vision of the Bodog brand - the global rights to which he had apparently ingeniously retained. He had instead chosen to simply licence the use of the Bodog brand to various operators.

Calvin Ayre now spends his time searching for potential Bodog brand licensees.

(Calvin Ayre built Bodog into a multi-million dollar global empire and easily one of the most recognisable brands in the industry).

BODOG has become truly global!!

Argentina is on the fast track to regulating online gambling and online casino games. They are following in the footsteps of a number of countries around the world who are have recently passed, or are in the process of passing, legislature to legalize online casino gaming.

If and when Argentina succeeds in regulating online gambling, it could have a domino effect on the rest of the worlds online gaming stance.

Ireland has a huge opportunity to establish itself as a major hub of the online gaming sector. There is a very tight timeline for Ireland to get this right. The UK has already moved to put a regulatory structure in place to capture this vibrant industry, but it got its taxation structure for the industry wrong. France and Spain are working on the legislation, so Ireland needs to hurry up............

New laws to make online casinos legal have been, or are in the process of being, passed in the UK, France, Spain, Argentina, Estonia, the United States and a variety of other countries. With all this legislation flying around, Ireland is starting to talk about getting in on the action.

There is a rumor circulating through the online gambling community that SEGA, the once-powerful video game manufacturer, could join the market. SEGA hasn’t been relevant since the release of Sony’s PlayStation in 1994, when it became clear that there were better consoles out there and SEGA couldn’t overcome the fact that Dreamcast and Saturn sucked. Since 2001, the company gave up entirely on producing consoles and focused on designing software for other consoles.

A spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, Jeffrey Sandman, said "As Congress searches for ways to pay for health care reform and other worthy programs, it should end the unsuccessful prohibition of Internet gambling and start collecting taxes on the billions in revenue currently lost to unlicensed, offshore gambling operators."
