Dutch online gamblers are spending up to Euro 450 million a year on their pastime, according to a survey just completed by the research company Motivaction. The revelation will no doubt spur Dutch politicians, who would like to keep the market exclusive to the state gambling monopoly, to greater efforts.

Ever go to Las Vegas? If you have you know that one of the things people do there is calculate their odds of winning the jackpot. Sometimes they're lucky and other times, ......they barely get out with the clothes on their back. Well, buying health insurance is pretty much the same. If you have insurance and you find yourself in poor health or have an accident, you're covered, at least in part. No insurance and you could end up bankrupt. (It's the main cause of bankruptcies in the U.S.)

U.K.-listed online gambling group PartyGaming said Today that it expects adjusted operating profit for 2008 to rise 28% to at least $143 million.

The firm said profit was helped by the recent moves in exchange rates, though it added revenue in the final quarter was down 18% at $100.4 million as its online poker business, which has closed its doors to U.S. customers, faces "an unlevel playing field" from sites that continue to accept U.S. players. The group said yields and the frequency with which players used the site was affected during the period, but the number of new player sign-ups rose 22% and the number of unique active players rose 8%.

Nonprofessional gamblers can deduct their wagering losses up to the amount of their wagering gains. Although it has been clear that such gamblers cannot simply net their gains and losses over the year, the exact method they should use was never specified. The IRS recently issued a legal memorandum that explains how gambling gains and losses should be calculated for tax purposes.

It seems as though the times are finally changing and, if successfull, Barney Frank's bill may mark the moment when online gambling reaches that next level of respectability that it has long deserved.

US Congressman Barney Frank has said that anti online gambling regulations pushed through in the final weeks of the Bush administration might soon be reversed because Americans are "demanding the right to gamble online."

It has only gotten clearer that the United States does not prohibit remote gambling, and that it has erected trade barriers against other countries to protect its domestic markets.

Valentine's Day for some may mean chocolates and roses, but for others it means big online slot tournaments.

One of the sites holding a Valentine's Day tournament is Online Vegas. The site is guaranteeing $75,000 in prizes and the best part of the tournament is the entry fee. It is only $.99 for a player to try their luck.

Golden Casino, also using Vegas Technologies software will be running a tournament similar to the one at Online Vegas.

Spain is now in the same boat as the U.S., losing millions of dollars to online gaming operators that are working without government regulation.

But In Spain, they have at least begun the process of attempting to regulate an industry that has cost them over $250 million in gambling revenue in the past year. Back in 2007, the Congress of Representatives in Spain passed a Bill that would have regulated and taxed online gambling in the country.
