Nearly 130,000 Australians are playing illegal internet poker games, with United States operators raking in $68 million in one year, according to new research.

Online casino games, including poker, are currently illegal in Australia. But in May the federal government released an interim review of interactive gaming laws that recommended legalising internet poker games, as part of overall liberalising of industry.

Other casino games would remain banned and poker would be trialled over several years.

The Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Counselor confirmed Tuesday receiving two requests for review claiming Elk Grove Village violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act (IOMA) when they voted to allow video gambling in the village, a charge Mayor Craig Johnson strongly denies.

One of the two requests for review was filed by Kathy Gilroy of Villa Park, a critic of legalized video gambling who attended the Tuesday, June 19 Elk Grove Village Board meeting when the vote was taken.

Hollywood is filled with rumors and digging into celebrities’ lives; it comes with the territory and celebrities going to get into the business have to deal with the tabloids trying to get into their personal life. George Clooney and Jennifer Aniston know this all too well as neither can do anything without it being caught on film. Recently, the two were pictured together getting on a plane in Switzerland but it isn’t what you think.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet Entertainment Props!

Clooney and his girlfriend, Stacy Kiebler, were seen boarding a private plane (of course) in the great country of Switzerland with Aniston and her boyfriend, Justin Theroux, and this wouldn’t be a big deal if you didn’t remember that Clooney is extremely good friends with Brad Pitt, Aniston’s ex-husband. This is the first time that Clooney and Aniston have been seen together in public since 2005 when she got divorced from Pitt, so some tabloids say that this is a sign of peace between the Pitt-Aniston factions, although someone should probably ask Mrs. Brad Pitt (in relationship only, not in legal terms), Angelina Jolie, if the peace treaty has been signed.

Of course, this really isn’t a big deal at all unless you’re making it into one. Clooney and Aniston were probably friends while she was married to Pitt and they could have simply been in Switzerland at the same time and saved time by jumping on the same plane. There has been no context for the four getting on the plane but there doesn’t even need to be. Pitt and Aniston were divorced seven years ago, and there were significant others on the plane as well, so there was no funny business (unless there is some sort of swinger’s Mile High Club). Don’t put too much stock into these pictures.

The AGEM Index reached a composite score of 125.05 by the mid-point of 2012. After declining in both April and May 2012, the index increased for the first time since March 2012. The 6.69-point increase (+5.7 percent) in June was attributable to positive stock price performances for 12 of the 17 global gaming operators. Those gains were offset by the balance of suppliers posting downturns in their valuation month-to-month. Of those that reported improvement from May, five witnessed double-digit growth rates. Compared to the same month of the prior year, the results were mixed as eight remained in a better position while nine have fallen behind on an annual basis.

As Mitt Romney considers who to choose as a running mate for the 2012 election, the one candidate that keeps reappearing as a contender is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Christie was favored in the spring because many on Wall Street believed his temperament and outspoken nature could help persuade Americans who view Romney as a cold fish to still vote Republican since Christie was on the ticket. But Christie's attributes are also his faults and it's very clear from the press conferences and public appearances that Christie isn't Romney's first choice. Nevertheless, as was the case with Sarah Palin in the last election, the Presidential candidate is failing to win favor with most Americans so the Republican back room are looking for a running mate who the general population can better identify with and who they can convince is the real reason to vote for the Presidential candidate. Right or wrong Romney is seen as privileged, arrogant and out of touch with the majority of Americans while Christie is seen as far more in touch with the needs of the average American and can relate to blue collar workers. As Obama's popularity began to dwindle, the Republican's believed they could get away with a different running mate and rising to the top of the heap were Rob Portman, Mark Rubio and Tim Pawlenty, but Obama's popularity is beginning to increase again so the Republicans have returned to Christie as a possible savior. In fact Nightline ran a feature on Governor Christie and the program seemed to suggest that Christie has become the choice on Wall Street and in the back rooms. There's no question that Romney and Christie are the odd couple which could prove to be interesting come November. Both Romney and Christie oppose the current healthcare initiatives of Obama and both want to change the direction the country is heading in fiscally. But Romney also wants to tell the public how to live their lives, while Christie is far more libertarian. On issues like abortion, stem cell research and gay rights Romney has said he is liberal and won't try to stop them but many close to Romney say that in truth he is against them and will make his opposition known when he becomes President. Christie has always been far more liberal in those areas and has even said that while he's Catholic, he doesn't let the church influence his decisions.

The console market has stalled, disrupted by the rise of digital game platforms and free games. The console cycle has lasted too long, and now we’ve entered a period of decline.

So now it has become a financial imperative for traditional game companies to make the leap to digital — before the all-digital companies gain too much of an upper hand in the emerging markets of social, mobile, and online games. Crossing over from an existing market to an emerging one is what our GameBeat 2012 conference is all about.

Gaming club looks back at the rejection of Adobe Flash by Apple and the impact on mobile gaming.
Prior to 2010, Apple and Adobe had enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership and, as Apple began to explore providing online gaming for their mobile devices most expected that to continue – including Adobe! The company developed its Flash Player as a platform for this and it was assumed that it would be adopted by Apple. The decision to reject Adobe Flash for all Apple devices – citing issues with reliability, security and performance – and use HTML5 instead, thus created shock waves throughout the tech world and led to a public war of words between the two companies.

Government is regulating and not promoting gambling in the country, Malacañang said Friday amid plans of foreign and local investors to establish $1-billion casino resort in Manila.

“It’s not promoting gambling per se. We are, however, regulating gambling,” presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, noting the rationale for the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

He said he is not aware of the full details of the project but the idea is to develop a full-service entertainment city and not just casinos.

For what it's worth, even without extra state-sanctioned casinos New York still is third on the list of states earning money from gambling.

The eight racinos and other legal gambling operations took in $5.4 billion in 2010, behind only Nevada with $10.5 billion and California with $9.7 billion, according to the North American Gaming Almanac and as reported by The Daily News.

Much of the success came come at the expense of New Jersey, where revenue dropped by an astounding $2 billion, from $6.4 billion to $4.4 billion in one year. Money and gamblers went to competitors in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.

Those who may soon have to vote on a Constitutional amendment expanding gambling in New York need to keep these figures in mind. If the market is saturated, New York might get little out of those new casinos beyond the troubles that expansion of gambling always brings.

Delaware’s Governor Jack Markell has signed a new bill which authorises online betting in Delaware. The bill also authorises more sports betting and other gambling venues. The new bill was signed last Thursday less than a day after it just passed the state Senate. The Senate’s vote was tinged by controversy as one lawmaker, who opposed the bill, accidentally voted for it under the belief that he was voting for an amendment instead.

One Senator, Robert Venables of Laurel, had said that he may wish to rescind the Senate vote; however, Markell’s quick signature of the bill into law may have been done in order to prevent that from happening.

As well as allowing online slots and table games, the new bill also expands keno beyond the state’s three casinos to at least a further 100 venues. It also allows betting on NFL football in at least 20 non-casino venues.

The 2012 London Summer Olympics will go down in history as the first “Mobile Olympics”. The IOC (International Olympic Committee) has released two apps for the Olympics. In this article, we will review the London 2012 Results App. We were lucky enough to check out the Olympics app on both Android and iPhone. This review is for the Android version – but both are the same. Search Google Play on your smartphone or tablet for “Olympics” and look for “London 2012 Results App”. “London 2012” is the name of the developer. There are many Olympic wannabe apps, so make sure you get the official one.

The app is small (4.74 M😎 and should download in under a minute. Installation is even quicker. The first thing you’ll notice is the Countdown to Opening Ceremony on the top left. The English language font has a “Greek look” to it.

On the top of the screen is a navigation bar menu. The options are Live, Calendar, Sports, Medals, Athletes and My Games. Live is similar to the usual Home Page link found on most web sites. Calendar is a well-organized calendar of all of the sports events. The dates are on the left of the screen and the event information fits the rest of the screen.

While there is a large push for the legalisation of online gambling within the US, family centric groups in 13 states are calling on Congress to block legislation that legalizes internet gambling.
They are hoping that Congress will strengthen the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) to prevent the internet from becoming a “giant online casino.” The UIGEA was passed in 2006 however, last December the U.S Justice Department ruled that in-state online bets not involving sports do not violate federal law. Thanks to this ruling many states are now passing legislation that legalizes online gambling in order to raise revenues via taxation.

In early 2008, I had started to write a book called Free Money, about the phenomenon of online gambling and about the addiction of gambling in general.

Written in a sort of a loose diary form, in February I was mulling over the astonishing amounts of mental energy we can sometimes devote to betting, even when we stand to win very small amounts. And I was wondering if, all things considered, we might be better off working.

"Yet when I succumb to these thoughts," I noted, "I think of the billionaire Sean Quinn, who, according to legend, plays cards every Tuesday night with his buddies, happy to be betting 50 cent a hand, with rarely more than a fiver in the pot. Like me, Sean Quinn appreciates that a low-stakes game has most of the elements of a high-stakes game, in terms of winning and losing and the deep pleasure you feel when your judgement is vindicated... so I guess he gets off on the primal energies of gambling, pitting his wits against an opponent and winning. And losing. Because without the losing, the winning has no meaning."

A referendum in a small island group on Saturday has paved the way for Taiwan's first casino, welcome news for global gambling companies keen to expand in Asia's fast growing casino industry.

Almost 57 percent of Matsu's voters opted in favour of government plans to build a casino, Taiwanese media reported.

Las Vegas players including Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands and MGM Resorts have been among the many companies keen on setting up a resort in Taiwan given its close proximity to China and large markets such as Korea and Japan.

Gambling is illegal in Taiwan but an amendment passed in 2009 permitted building casino resorts on offshore islands.

Matsu, named after a Chinese sea goddess, is home to 8,000 people and is a 30-minute ferry ride from China's Fujian province.

Residents in favour of a casino resort say it would boost infrastructure and help develop islands' tourism industry.

Betfair shares have dropped around 4.5% after Cyprus introduced regulation to restrict online gambling.

The beleaguered eurozone state said it would restrict online casino and poker as well as exchange betting. Betfair said Cyprus contributed around 4% of group revenues last year, and around £9m of profit. Its shares have lost 34p to 722p on the news, but it is taking advice on the legality of the move. It said:

The company believes the legislation contains serious flaws and, in certain areas, is inconsistent with European Union law.

Betfair...will be taking all necessary steps to reduce the impact on profitability through both legal action and cost management.
