As of early Tuesday morning, New Jersey became the third state in the country — joining Nevada and Delaware — to offer online gambling to the public. New Jersey and Delaware now offer a range of casino games, while Nevada offers online poker only.
While New Jersey may not be first to enter the realm of online gambling, with a population of 9 million and heavily trafficked borders, many experts said New Jersey’s success will be used to gauge how successful the industry can be in the U.S.
Challenges remain as operators will continue to evolve geolocation and identity verification technologies, as well as payment-processing services.
Despite numerous reports of individuals within the state’s borders being incorrectly blocked from play, New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Director David Rebuck said from a regulatory perspective, the systems are performing correctly. He characterized the geolocation issues not as a regulatory problem, but instead an operator challenge.
The soft play roll-out has already been compared by some to the botched website introduction of the Affordable Care Act, a comparison Rebuck opposes. There are no significant regulatory problems or technical barriers to going live, he said.
“People ask me, ‘Are you going to have a meltdown, a failure, in the way Obamacare is happening?’“ Rebuck said. “There’s so many distinctions, it’s almost incredible I have to answer it. ... (Internet) gaming is an entertainment function. It’s not a core life responsibility.”
Regulators have been closely watching as seven Atlantic City casinos and their web partners have undergone real-money trial play limited to 500 concurrent players on each site for five days. Regulators noted the amount of traffic to the sites as a sign of early success. More than 10,000 people have registered for play.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Bally’s Atlantic City, Caesars Atlantic City, Tropicana Casino and Resort, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, and Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort have all been approved to begin full operations today. All have been issued Internet gambling permits from the state, and their web partners have been issued necessary waivers to begin operations.
Golden Nugget Atlantic City, which has been engaging in testing since Nov. 21, will remain in restricted play, regulators said. Rebuck said the decision was made by the casino after two hours of extensive discussions with the state.
Golden Nugget General Manager Tom Pohlman said the property, which has partnered with Bally Technologies, expects to be approved for public play within a week.
The casino has had issues with slot games freezing as well as reporting issues. Pohlman said the property doesn’t yet feel “confident that numbers reconcile with what’s actually happening.”
“We’re not in a sprint here. We’re in the marathon,” Pohlman said. “The quality of the product and the guest experience is not what we expect as the Golden Nugget. We have decided to continue to test on our own and improve.”
Improvement is expected to continue across the industry beyond the launch.
Joe Pappano, senior vice president and managing director of payment processor Vantiv Gaming Solutions, is continually working with credit card providers and banks to get more companies on board with approving online gambling transactions. Currently, several banks, including Bank of America Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co., will not process the transactions.
Much is expected to change in the next 12 to 18 months in terms of the number of companies accepting online gambling payments, he said.
Meanwhile, the same is true for geolocation services. Providers have said that improvements can be made as their geofences are adjusted. Rebuck acknowledged that while geolocation does perform to regulatory standards, there is some concern about public perception.
“We’ve been inundated with people trying to get on. I’ve been stressing with the geolocation companies we’ve been meeting with that they need to consider options that make their products more efficient,” Rebuck said, adding that he will not put the state “at risk” and lower its standards for geolocation technology.
Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, which recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and Revel Casino-Hotel have not announced any plans for Internet gambling. Caesars Entertainment, which owns Bally's, Caesars, Showboat and Harrah's, opted to seek Internet gambling permits only for its Bally's and Caesars properties.
According to New Jersey’s online gambling legislation approved nine months ago, online gambling companies must partner with a land-based Atlantic City casino to offer their product in the state.
Plans for a partnership between Resorts Casino Hotel and online gambling giant PokerStars have been announced, but neither has received the necessary state approvals to begin operations. The Division of Gaming Enforcement has said PokerStars’ application remains under review.
Additions to those companies approved for online gambling operations in New Jersey can be made on a rolling basis.
New Jersey launches statewide Internet gambling with 6 casinos - pressofAtlanticCity-com: Breaking News
Six casinos have been issued approvals by the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement to continue with full play.
The Golden Nugget remains in the testing stage.
As a result, the open market for regulated online gambling in NJ is effectively open as of now.
That announcement came from the DGE’s David Rebuck on a conference call at 3pm EST on November 25th.
The soft launch of online gambling in New Jersey was riddled with problems, with the two most common complaints from players being an inability to deposit and faulty geo-location technology that blocked them from playing even though they were located well within New Jersey’s borders.
Will those problems continue now that online gambling is open to the general public in New Jersey?
The answer is almost certainly yes. The real question is the degree to which casinos and regulators will be able to mitigate those core issues.
Banking issues largely out of NJ’s control
The difficulty players have been experiencing depositing is not something that regulators and casinos have much direct control over. At the heart of the problem is the unwillingness of some banks (and companies like PayPal) to process deposits for online gambling – even clearly legal, regulated online gambling.
Casinos will need to take a two-pronged approach on this issue, both pressuring banks to change their policies and coming up with alternatives for consumers (and educating consumers on how to use those alternative deposit options).
Geotargeting should improve – but how much remains a question
Casinos can exercise a greater degree of control over the geo-location tools that are used to determine whether a player is located in NJ.
The consensus opinion is that casinos were being aggressive – perhaps overly so – in their attempts to keep unauthorized players out during the soft launch period, and that as that aggression is dialed back, the number of false positives identified by geo-location tools will decrease.
But even if that ends up being the case, it’s still a given that at least some players in NJ will be locked out of regulated online gambling sites. And casinos could decide that – at least in the early days of the market – there’s more to gain from a cautious approach than a liberal one when it comes to geo-location.
New Jersey Regulators Approve Full Online Gambling Launch » Online Poker Report
Players' Visa and Mastercards were turned down by some banks in Delaware as they tried to make bets online. In Nevada, as players wanted to place their first online bets for poker April 30, they had a difficult time opening accounts. Credit-card issuers like Wells Fargo, American Express, Bank of America, Ebay and PayPal refused to honor the registrations or bets.
Will The Garden State Face Banking Opposition?
New Jersey is set to launch online gaming Nov. 26 and become the third state in line for internet wagering.
The online gaming arena in the US has a potential revenue of $7.4 billion in four years if the industry can convince card issuers to join the gaming venture. But banks are worried they may take a fall in revenue and have concerns about liability for customers who are underage and violations.
The American Bankers Association has also unfavorably weighed in on the conflict, which originally addressed underage wagering as a factor.
Bank of America is evaluating whether gaming transactions will eventually be allowed. American Express flat out bars gaming transactions as does Wells Fargo and Discover. Both Wells Fargo and Discover cited compliance issues with the federal government. PayPal said online gaming is addressed in its policy.
Following the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the US, banks ousted gaming transactions from their card-payment systems. Meanwhile, WSOP and Ultimate Poker continue to draw players in Nevada, averaging 23,500 customers.

Despite the passing of Michael Jackson in 2009, the King of Pop continues to connect with fans around the world. But one fan’s undying love for the fallen king was rewarded handsomely at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, when she won over $1.8 million on the ‘Michael Jackson King of Pop’ slot machine.
Kathryn Stokes is a 55-year old associate of the Peel Regional Police in the Greater Toronto Area, who admits she is not much of a gambler. However, a close friend talked Kathryn into joining a tour group from the GTA on a trip to Fallsview Casino on September 17, which she agreed to do.
After arriving at the casino, Kathryn knew immediately which game she wanted to play. The trip was her second visit to Fallsview, and she found the Michael Jackson slot machine on her previous visit to Niagara Falls.
On her last visit, Kathryn won a few hundred dollars, and considered the experience well worth the trip. Despite her “huge” love for the King of Pop, Kathryn was committed to spending a maximum of $60 this time around.
But luckily for Kathryn, her $60 limit was all she needed for a life-changing reward. After playing a few rounds, the next pull of the lever won Kathryn the jackpot prize, and made her over $1.8 million richer due in part to her undying passion for one of her favourite musical heroes. She hasn’t decided what to do with the money yet, but does hint that some of the money could be used to buy treats of her own.
“I have no idea at the moment. I'm looking at a brand new car.”

The Beach Life jackpot has just gone over the $1 million mark making it one of the largest progressive jackpots on the internet. On average the game pays out around $3.25 million and one lucky player once won $8.2 million!
The game is unsurprisingly built on a beach theme and its symbols include sand, surfers, babes, ice creams and sunshine.
The symbols often animate when winning combinations are spun which adds an extra element of fun to the game play.
The great thing about Beach Life’s progressive jackpot is that it can be won on relatively small bets.
Players can bet anything from 0.25 to 5 coins and still be eligible to win the jackpot.
The sunshine symbol is the wild symbol, spin five of them on the final payline to win the progressive jackpot; if five of them appear on any other line then you win 10,000 coins.
If you spin two or more sandcastle icons you will win up to 500x your bet regardless of which payline they appear on. The chests symbol triggers the bonus game where players can win cash prizes hidden in treasure chests.

You're ready to gamble online. You've chosen your form of gaming (casino, sports betting, poker, bingo, etc.) and the operator (William Hill, All Slots, Vernons are some of the larger operators, but there are hundreds of smaller ones too). Now for the last important decision: which payment method to choose.
Three Types of Payment Methods
The three most commonly used payment methods are: credit card, debit card and e-wallet.
Credit cards are cards such as Visa, Mastercard and American Express that most online casino customers should already have access to. In short, they are payment cards issued to users as system of payment, that allow the cardholder to pay for goods and services - everything from paying for your weekly shopping at the supermarket or mall to making an online casino deposit.
Debit cards are also usually issued by banks, but differ from credit cards in one important way: when you pay for a good or service (such as casino deposit) with a debit card, the value is deducted automatically from your account. When you pay by credit card, you may rack up a continuing balance of debt, subject to interest being charged.
E-wallets (or digital wallets or web wallets) are an invention of the online era. They are electronic devices that allow users to make e-commerce transaction, such as purchasing good or services online or in-store. These are now the number one option for online gamblers, as they cut out the middleman (the banks) and ensure that none of your personal or banking information is shared with your online gambling operator. Some of the more common e-wallets include: Skrill (Moneybookers), Ukash, and Click2pay.
Choosing Which Is Best for You
As a general rule, e-wallets and debit cards are safer and easier to manage than credit cards, although credit cards often win out for convenience. To choose which of these three options is best for you, you should always read up about the deposit methods used at your specific online gambling operator and the rules of the country in which you reside (for example, casinos can't accept credit card payments from residents of certain countries). If you are in doubt, contact your online casino's customer support (usually available 24/7 via phone, email or live chat) to find out what type of payment methods they accept.
Which Is Most Popular in Your Country?
Visa and Mastercard are the most popular online gambling payment methods worldwide, most likely because they are offered by banks and accepted in (almost) every country around the world. However, research shows that certain countries favor certain methods. Just see these countries as examples.
In the UK, NETeller is the most popular e-wallet, followed by Skrill and UKash. Across the water in Ireland, Skrill is number one, followed by NETeller and CitadelDirect. In Canada, E-Check is most popular, followed by InstaDebit and UseMyBank. In Australia, it is: UKash, Envoy and NETeller. In New Zealand, it is the same three, but Envoy is more popular than UKash.
For many Asian countries, credit cards aren't even an option for your online gambling payments, which means customers there rely almost exclusively on e-wallets. In Singapore, Skrill and NETeller are the most popular online casino payment options, In India NETeller and Entropay stand out, and in Philippines Entropay is number one.
For residents of a few unfortunate countries, online gambling operators actually won't accept e-wallets. In Jamaica, for example, gamblers are generally restricted to using credit card options such as Mastercard or Visa.
Time to Withdraw?
Okay, so now that you've won your share of money, you're ready to withdraw your winnings. Even if you've chosen an "easy" payment method such as e-wallets, you still might be required to provide additional information and submit additional forms before withdrawing your money. Make sure to check with the individual casino to see if they have separate requirements upon withdrawal.

Casinos exist because of patrons’ willingness to gamble, to bet against often long odds for the possibility of a big payoff. The casino wants your money, but it doesn’t want you to go broke in the process. This we understand, and our published support for the proposed Menominee Nation casino in Kenosha should make it clear we’re not opposed to gambling.
We are, however, opposed to casino operators getting into the payday loan business, or vice versa. That is what the Lac du Flambeau Chippewa in Vilas County are on the verge of doing.
Beginning in May, the Chippewa opened three online payday loan companies, two of which went online in December, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Sunday. The tribe also set itself up to operate a real-money online casino: If online gambling were to become legal nationwide or in Wisconsin, Chippewa President Tom Paulson said, “we could just flip a switch” and convert its online casino’s current games — which involve winning and using play money — into those taking bets using real money.
Given that the Chippewa already offer online payday loans — the type of loan which invariably involves considerably higher interest rates than those you’ll get at Johnson Bank, Chase or Tri City — having that same institution allow you to put real money in a game of Texas Hold ‘Em with a single click is a chilling prospect.
Maulson dismisses critics who see gambling and high-interest, short-term lending as businesses that prey on the poor, the Journal Sentinel reported. “It’s legal to do, and we’re doing it legally,” Maulson said.
Legal and right aren’t necessarily the same thing.
There’s already a disconnectedness in any online activity. If you’re in your home office or bedroom with a desktop computer, you’re frequently alone, or sufficiently engaged with the device as to be cut off — in part or in whole — from the world around you. Even when you’re at a coffee shop or restaurant taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi, you’re interacting with the laptop or your smartphone, not another person directly.
When you’re in the casino, on the other hand, there’s a physical pile of chips in front of you, and it’s either getting bigger or, more likely, smaller. The people next to you at the table are winning and losing, too, and your awareness of their wins and losses keeps you mindful of how much of the money you came in with is still in your possession.
To take someone with a gambling problem — or, more dangerously, the person who has a gambling problem but has yet to realize it — away from the human contact of the casino and into a situation where they can all too easily “get cash fast” without serious consideration of the terms and conditions of that loan is a step too far for us.
Before any steps to legalize online gambling in Wisconsin, the Legislature should require that online gambling companies cannot also be in the business of online lending.
Gamblers need to know when to stop before they start. Casinos should not be in the business of loaning the money to keep a gambler in the game.
Journal Times editorial: Casinos shouldn
Geoff Freeman, the AGA’s president and chief executive, said bulking up in staff and consulting are part of his plan to create a more aggressive casino trade association that can operate outside of the Beltway.
“It's part of a big shift that we are making. We are becoming a more proactive group that is working to define the image of the gaming industry. It's less about legislation and more about defining the image of this industry, not in just Washington but in the states as well,” Freeman told The Hill.
That includes bringing on Jim Messina, President Obama’s campaign manager for his 2012 reelection bid. The trade group has hired the Messina Group to help with grassroots campaigns, including support of online gambling.

One-third (32%) are currently in favor, with 57 percent opposed. The university’s survey research group has asked this question repeatedly over the years, and the current findings represent a decline in favor from those in March 2013. At that time, 41 percent favored online gambling and 46 percent said they were opposed.
“The public’s attitude was, for several years, warming up to online gambling,” said Krista Jenkins, director of PublicMind and professor of political science, in a statement. “But there has been a clear change in direction, now that the practice has actually been legalized. Part of the public has always shown deep reluctance to make gambling so accessible in their own homes. Now that it is in fact legal, they may be more concerned than ever.”
Those who say they visited a casino in the last 12 months are significantly more apt to support online gambling. Around four-in-ten of these individuals support the legalization, whereas barely a quarter (28%) of those without a recent casino visit say the same. And, women remain more opposed than men. Two thirds of women (67%) reject online gambling’s legalization, compared with around half of men (47%).
“Internet gambling firms operating in New Jersey have been marketing heavily through numerous media outlets to gain recognition in the online gambling space. These numbers may reflect a bit of intolerance to internet gambling due to the nature and volume of advertising about IGAMING recently in New Jersey,” said Donald Hoover, Senior Lecturer of Hospitality Management, in the statement.

Contrary to the beliefs of many, there is nothing lame about online casinos. They don’t have the glitz and glamour of Macau or the Vegas strip, but there is a reason that they are so popular. Convenience is number one, as one can skip the long drive to the casino, waiting for tables and tipping of waiters and simply log on and play. Internet sites offer everything from pop culture-themed slots to online blackjack to high-stakes poker.
Aside from all of that, it is possible to win big at an online casino. No people know that better than the British. This piece will give a rundown of seven massive real-life UK online jackpots.
UK man wins second largest jackpot ever
In 2007 a 29-year old British blacksmith playing under the name of “Obaesso” pulled in the second largest online slot payout ever: $8 million. The blue-collar man won playing the progressive Millionaire’s Club slot. As you can probably guess, joining the real-life millionaire’s club allowed him to quit his day job and live a life of luxury.
The new member of the rich and famous was presented the hefty check by British supermodel Sophie Anderton. Only a few online slot players become millionaires each year, and this fabulously lucky Englishman was one of them.
Fisherman nets GBP 5.4 million jackpot
One anonymous fisherman from Aberdeenshire hauled in the largest ever payout by a British online casino, GBP 5.4 million. The hard-working family man won the prize playing progressive jackpot slot games at online and mobile sportsbook BetVictor’s website.
The fisherman had been a longtime user of the bookies sportsbetting and online poker offers, but started playing casino games only shortly before winning the historic payout last October. You can bet that he’s glad he did. BetFred’s Beach Life bigger than King Kong
In 2012 one lucky player started out putting down GBP 1 bets on Betfred’s King Kong slot. Soon their tiny bankroll turned into GBP 250, which they decided to take to the bigger and bolder Beach Life progressive slot. Six spins later, this slot enthusiast couldn’t believe their eyes. 5,100,000 flashed across the screen. You can’t make a dollar out of a nickel, but apparently you can turn 1 pound into 5 million.
At the time, this was reported to be the third-largest slot payout in world history. The winner was flown by private jet to meet BetFred founder and CEO Fred Done, who personally presented them with a check for GBP 5.1 million.
Sandro makes mega fortune playing “Mega Fortune”
It looks like BetVictor is a good place to seek massive payouts. One online player known only by the name of Sandro won a GBP 4.5 million jackpot just a few months before the fellow from Aberdeenshire’s big day.
In a truly amazing story, Sandro started playing Mega Fortune with only GBP 65 in his account. Playing GBP 5 spins, in just 17 minutes he turned his small bankroll into several millions of pounds. We’ve heard of get rich quick schemes, by 17 minutes? If this story doesn’t make you want to give online casinos a try, nothing will.
The Luck of the Irish extends to online bingo
You don’t need to visit the Emerald Isle to get lucky. In 2008 one bingo enthusiast hit a GBP 1.5 million jackpot playing the Clover Rollover progressive bingo game on William Hill. The lucky player known only as “Simon” received what was William Hill’s largest ever payout at the time.
The progressive jackpot went live in March of 2008 and had hit GBP 1.5 million by November, when Simon struck gold. Online bingo has continued to grow in popularity since then, with almost every online casino now offering progressive jackpot games.
Mobile payouts start getting big
Mobile gambling is relatively new, and most people wouldn’t associate it with large payouts. In 2013 one lucky Briton made mobile gambling news by striking a GBP 1.4 million at Melon Madness on the PartyCasino site.
The massive slot payout smashed the previous record of GBP 866,000 which had been set only a week prior. Mobile slot jackpots are getting increasingly large as more and more players are turning to mobile devices over traditional online platforms.
And keep getting bigger…
The GBP 1.4 million jackpot was big news. So you can imagine the response when a player known as Gabriel L. won GBP 3.75 million last September 9th. How does the largest ever mobile jackpot jump by 267 percent in less than one year? UK-based developer Microgaming’s Mega Moolah progressive slot, that’s how.
The mobile slot’s jackpot has been rising continually since its release in 2006, having paid out a total of GBP 260,000,000. You probably won’t get as lucky as Gabriel L., but if you want to try you can pick up your device and play the game on a variety of mobile casino sites. Britons strike gold
Online games are more available than ever, and British gamblers have noticed, winning hefty jackpots playing everything from online bingo to mobile slots. One lucky Englishman won the second-largest online slot payout in gambling history in 2009, and UK developer Microgaming’s Mega Moolah slot produced the largest mobile win ever last year. Forget the luck of the Irish, it looks like the British are truly the lucky ones.
