I had not seen Rodionov for a long time, of course he may seem better on indoor hard courts. He had won a Germany indoor hard tournament at the beginning of the season, beating Nakashima in the final. Then he fell into a slump, but has slowly been recovering in the Peruvian clay court tournaments leading up to the US Open, where he has not dropped a single set. He is strong in crucial psychological points. I remember him playing well on clay in Portugal, but he had some problems with his hand there and if he doesn't serve well, it's not going to work out. He is doing decently here, but he is definitely not a hard court player, and his odds are dropping because he is only 20 years old and hasn't achieved much yet. I think he has already done what he could in this tournament, so it's just a matter of waiting for a higher odds and taking Australia.
