We’ll see 32 teams participate from six different FIFA confederations; the tournament will run from June 11 to July 11. After a draw in Cape Town, the 32 teams were separated into eight different groups.
The group stage (June 11 to 25) is a round robin in which each team in a group plays each other once. After teams play three games, the top two from each group advance to the next round. Goal differential is the tiebreaker.
The round of 16 (June 27 to 29) follows the group stage and kicks off the one-game elimination rounds, followed by the quarterfinals (July 2 to 3), semifinals (July 6 to 7) and final on July 11. Drawn matches during elimination rounds go to extra time and then shootouts if necessary.

But it’s hard to discuss Brazil without remembering its first World Cup and soccer legend Pelé. In 1958, the soon-to-be international superstar was just 17 years old when he played for his nation in the tournament for the first time. He missed the first two matches with an injury but his teammates urged their coach to play him in the third match.
Brazil never looked back. Pelé stepped onto the field wearing No. 10 and brought a nation to its feet, electrifying spectators (and opposing defenders) with his ball-handling skills. The teenager led Brazil to its first of five World Cup titles – more than any other country.

Love is in the air Welcome:
As for team records, the all-time leader in championships is Brazil with five, followed by Italy (four), and Germany (three). Hungary scored the most goals in one tournament when it tallied 27 in 1954. The same year, Austria beat Switzerland 7-5 in the highest-scoring game in tournament history.
The all-time scoring leader among individuals is Ronaldo (Brazil) with 15 goals, followed by Gerhard Muller (Germany) with 14. The single-game record belongs to Salenko; the Russian scored five in a game in 1994. What about the fastest goal to start a game? Turkey’s Hakan Sukur did it in 2002 when he shocked South Korea just 11 seconds in.
Believe it or not, the record for highest average attendance belongs to the United States in 1994 (68,990).
