Poker legend Doyle Brunson took out Annette Obrestad to move into the final eight in Sunday’s broadcast of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship on NBC.
Brunson and Obrestad had faced off before with Brunson coming out on top, this time was no different. Brunson quickly took a 15:1 chip lead by Obrestad chasing a straight draw with 7-5-J-K on the table while holding 6-4. Unfortunately, Brunson held J-5 for two pair and Obrestand missed on the river.
On their final hand, Brunson called with A-8 and Obrestad went all-in with Q-5 of hearts. Brunson flopped top pair.
Brunson wasn't the only poker star at the Caesar's Palace event, seven were former World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event winners.
2006 World Series of Poker Winner Jamie Gold got the boot from the championships in just 11 hands, losing to pro Peter Eastgate who flopped a pair of nines to Gold's sevens. 1998 WSOP Main Event champ Scotty Nguyen went against “High Stakes Poker” host Gabe Kaplan.E ach player in the Sweet 16 began with 80,000 in chips and the blinds kicked off at 600/1,200.

This week was pretty sick on the suck outs, with both Phil Laak getting rivered by Mercier's set after Laak set up the"landing pad" and Annie Duke rivering a straight against Wasicka to essentially end that match. . .

And the week before you had Phil Laak similarly busting Phil Gordon with a rivered straight. . .

How the market will respond is another question. While the concept of mobile poker is clearly appealing in theory, whether or not players will embrace it is less so. If you’re used to a large screen – or even a laptop – scaling down to even the most generous screen offered by a mobile device will be a tough transition at best.

The poker information site Poker Table Ratings, which uncovered the flaw in the first place and has been assisting Cereus in finding the right solution, has announced: “We can confirm that SSL is now being used everywhere for Cereus.
The login vulnerability no longer exists. We’re now ensuring a proper implementation, but it seems like the biggest problems have been addressed.”
The advisory brings to a close a crisis that started on May 6 when Poker Table Ratings advised Cereus of the flaw after it managed to hack the bespoke XOR encryption on the network’s player gaming data, using a standard Windows calculator.
Cereus immediately reported the issue to the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and quickly installed a quick fix, giving an undertaking that OpenSSL would be installed as a more permanent solution. This was partially achieved, but was still vulnerable according to PTR experts, leading to further work implementing a full OpenSSL initiative, which has now passed muster.

First up, the low buy-in event – which initially promised a $1 million guaranteed prize pool – attracted a colossal field of 19,188 runners, breaching its guarantee and awarding a staggering $191,000 first prize to “midjat”.
The medium-stakes event, which featured a $1,000 entry fee, was unsurprisingly a smaller affair with 3,675 runners, all of whom combined to generate a $3.6 million prize pool. The lion’s share of this was won by “cooperzo311”, “Mr.M.M0ney” and “Athanasios”, after the three stuck a deal that ensured them all at least $400,000.
More elite still was the high buy-in event, featuring a suitably exclusive price-tag of $10,000 to enter. Nevertheless, 615 hopefuls still stumped up the cash to create a $6.15 million prize pool, ensuring that the winner, Ryan “totagU” Fair, took home $1.1 million for first place as runner-up Kristoffer “Sumpas” Thorsson bagged $815k.
The trio of two-day events concluded another highly successful SCOOP series and provided members of Team PokerStars pro with the perfect pre-Vegas warm-up ahead of this year’s World Series. In the online world, all attention will next fix on ‘Stars’ 2010 World Championship of Online Poker, scheduled to begin this September.
The WSOP starts the end of this month, but it’s not too late to get in on the action. Players can play in FTP $1 Main Event Seat tournaments, Daily Shootouts, direct qualifiers, 150 Seat Main Event Guarantee and more. In addition, a player that qualifies through the Full Tilt Poker Academy WSOP Main Event Challenge will earn a seat to the Main Event and get one-on-one pointers from a member of Team Full Tilt; outlast that member in the Main Event and win $5,000 for paying attention!
The WSOP isn’t the only place to go with Full Tilt Poker. The site is holding qualifiers for the FTPS Espana and various WPT events as well. If a player wants to get into a major live tournament, Full Tilt is the place to qualify.
