The World Series of Poker* circuit event action at Harrah's Chester moved through the weekend and early this week as two more winners were given that most prized piece of jewelry, the WSOP Circuit Ring. Event #2, a $555 no-limit hold 'em event was won by Matthew Lope, a 25-year-old player looking to go pro from Mt. Laurel, NJ. He actually just played his first-ever WSOP Circuit event last month at Caesars in Atlantic City and came in second, earning $26,623. For this win, he earned $22,447, showing that he's well on his way towards his goal.

Event #3 was won by Burak Temel, who claimed $14,176 and a ring for his victory in Event #3, the $355 buy-in No Limit Hold 'Em event. The online poker pro has made the move to the real world lately, grinding full-time in area card rooms and now on the tournament circuit. Second place went to 27 year-old PhD student in statistics, Oliver Entine, who got $8,757 for proving once again that it's more than just raw numbers when it comes to poker.

The World Series of Poker* Circuit stop at Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack near Philadelphia continued apace on Tuesday evening, when 33-year-old Brent Keller did something that very, very few others have managed: he won his third Omaha ring event. Keller, a graduate from Penn State University, earned his degree in finance while learning to play poker and now enjoys the game on ap professional basis. He beat a field of 110 players in event #4, the $345 buy-in Omaha 8 event, including Omaha specialists like Allen Kessler and Chris Reslock, who's got four rings to his name.

The total prize pool for this event went to $32,010, of which $9,097 went to Keller. The runner up was Dale Pinchot, a 39-year-old real estate investor from Trenton. The married father of three got $4,004 for two days of play and his second place finish, surely a good return on his initial investment.

We'll continue updating you guys on what's going on at Harrah's while you continue to play online poker!

Does bodog poker allow the use of datamined hands? like if I bought them from a site like handhq.com or any other site and they weren't my own hands...

Thanks for the help.

Jonas Wexler was the name that got to stake a claim on Wednesday when he won Event #5, the $355 buy-in No-Limit Hold 'Em event at the World Series of Poker* circuit stop at Harrah's Chester. The 32-year-old plumber-turned-poker-pro is from Southampton, PA and has been playing professionally for a few years now without a major win to his name. In fact, his biggest score was coming in at fifth place in Event #56 of the WSOP in Vegas, another six-max No-Limit Hold 'em event. While he's been able to eke out a living on the fringes of the circuit, this tournament win gives him $13,505 for his bankroll and the WSOPC gold ring that is coveted by many.

Second place went to 23-year-old college student John Allan Hinds, who came from Greenville, NC to play this event. He earned $8,340 for coming in as a runner-up . Third place went to Sean Kashani of Atlanta. The 28-yaer-old pocketed $6,022 for third place.

The action continues at Harrah's Chester and if you can't make it out there, you can play online poker in the meantime!

TOPS-Poker.org reported today that despite the government shutdown that caused millions of US-based poker players to have their account balances indefinitely placed in limbo at gaming websites like Absolute Poker, PokerStars, Ultimate Bet, and Full Tilt Poker, many of those same players are still optimistic while moving on to greener pastures. Even with only a small percentage of refunds being issued from the poker websites that agreed to never again accept US players for real-money gaming, websites like Lock Poker are still experiencing unprecedented growth on a daily basis.

"I am not permitted to talk about actual enrollment numbers or overall deposits at Lock Poker quite yet," said Kevin Hastings, a spokesperson with TOPS-Poker, "but it is safe to say that they are now the largest, most comprehensive online poker room in the world. The sheer amount of new sign-ups over the past few weeks has been tremendous and they've only reached about 20% of the total US market that was involved with online poker in the past."

While Hastings said that the sudden surge in business could be seen as nothing other than a positive for the executives at Lock Poker and similar websites, many of the online gaming sites that accepted US players only weeks ago have since decided to seek business elsewhere. Sportsbook Poker stopped accepting new accounts from Americans on May 1st, for example, although existing accounts are still free to play on their website without any limitations. Other online poker rooms have banned US-based players altogether in fear of another government shutdown, thinking that a proactive approach to pleasing the Department of Justice would save a lot of headaches in the long run.

"That's the thing about dealing with US laws when it comes to any form of online gambling," added Hastings on Thursday, "there's a strong push in Congress to legalize it at the Federal level so that the Atlantic City and Vegas-based casinos can swoop in and seize the entire market. It was a great plan for the big-money casinos to create yet another monopoly to line their pockets with....except that it completely backfired on them due to the timing."

In the near future, several more online poker rooms that cater to North America will begin their exit strategies as well, simply because they expect that new legislation will make it impossible for them to compete inside the US market. A recent study of Full Tilt Poker, for example, showed that the company has donated millions of dollars in prize money for various professional tournaments, sponsored hundreds of notable players inside the United States, and hosted several hit television shows to increase awareness of the sport.

"What happened to Full Tilt and the other banned online poker rooms is ridiculous," Hastings said. "They almost single-handedly created poker-mania across the nation and donated tens of millions of dollars to allow fans insider access...only to be thrown out like yesterday's trash. I bet those guys are laughing hysterically right now watching Lock Poker taking all of the business that these spoiled, self-serving US Casino owners thought they were naturally entitled to. I guess somebody should have told them that when you secretly screw over a few million poker players for the sake of an insider-like profit scenario, they tend to be a little angry over it."

The USA has influenced many jurisdictions with its prohibition on online gambling throughout the years. The dispute with the World Trade Organization and Antigua and Barbuda being one problem that does not seem to be going away. Now the authorities in Costa Rica are pulling out all the stops by raiding the offices of Absolute Poker and PokerStars in an attempt to gather evidence regarding alleged wrong doing by those companies, as a reaction to the indictments put forth by the US Department of Justice.

Agents with the Organismo Investigacion Judicial (OIJ), proceeding with search warrants, broke down the doors at least six separate locations including residential homes and offices of persons associated with the online poker operations.
According to reports from Poker Players newspaper the police in Costa Rica raided the offices because of concerns that the firms were not paying employees salaries owed. The company that owns Absolute Poker and UB, Bianca Gaming, currently owes some $2,750,000 to its employees. In a heated exchange between UB’s CEO Paul Leggett and the head of UB’s Costa Rican office, Rimola threatened to spill the beans to the American Federal Bureau of Investigation which is in Costa Rica looking to solidify their case, on all he knew if the payment owing to employees is not made.

It is assumed that Costa Rican authorities were attempting to find two of the principals of Absolute Poker, Scott Tom and Brent Beckley, both were named in the US Federal DoJ indictments. Neither of the two wanted men were in their homes when raided by the police.
PokerStars Customer support offices were also raided by the Costa Rican police but have since stated the issue has been resolved. A PokerStars spokesperson said, “PokerStars expects the office to return to business as usual in short order as this action was most likely taken as a response to problems experienced by other local companies in the same industry.”

That is because Casino Game are popular to US and even though they will not tell the truth, US Government earn taxes to those casino.

TOP-Poker.org, a strategy and advice website for poker players around the world, announced today that the topic of online poker is still an extremely popular topic in Washington. The Poker Players Alliance and several other lobbyist groups have spent the past three weeks bombarding members of Congress and the House of Representatives with emails, phone calls, and other types of communications to demand legislation that will once and for all repeal the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act and legalize online poker in the United States.

While the voices of these political groups may sound in unison, there are actually several other factors at play behind the scenes. Some lobbyists are demanding this change on behalf of the land-based casinos that stand to profit billions of dollars if online poker was legalized and regulated within the United States, while others simply see legalization as an excellent source of long-term tax revenue. Foreign-based online casinos are also rumored to be using their contacts inside Washington to convince Congress to uphold former rulings made by the World Trade Organization, which stated that blocking foreign casinos from soliciting US customers violated numerous trade pacts.

Surprisingly enough, the five year stance shared by Congress that claimed online gambling is immoral is no longer being argued, which some take as evidence as to the US government's future intentions. Many speculate that the online poker shutdowns by the Department of Justice was simply a precursor to the government launching their own online poker network, which would make it extremely convenient for them to almost immediately seize most of the US market-share without competing against foreign-based entities.

"The online poker shutdowns has nothing to do with illegal online gambling, corrupting our youth, or saving Americans from evil foreign businesses," said Steven Hastings, a spokesperson for TOPS-Poker. "If that were the case, one of the biggest Casino franchises in the US wouldn't have ended up in cahoots with the owner of Full Tilt or our Senate Majority Leader; they've been pushing for this for years. This is about stealing an entire industry so that a few wealthy individuals can become even wealthier...plain and simple."

Hastings went on to explain that even though four of the largest poker websites have been blocked from conducting business in the United States, there were many existing poker websites lining up to take their place. The protests in Washington may appear to be about promoting legalized online poker and the rights of the US-based gamblers, but an even stronger undercurrent is driving these political groups like wildfire.

"Every single day that passes without repealing the UIGEA, foreign-based gaming sites like Lock Poker are seizing a tremendous amount of the market share." Hastings added on Monday. "The delay is not because our elected representatives do not want to see online poker inside the United States...they just do not know how to legalize it and ban all of their overseas competitors at the same time. It can not be done without violating about fifty international laws that promote free trade between the US and the rest of the world."

We've been, as the kids say, hella excited about Cogan's Trade, the Brad Pitt vehicle about a professional enforcer who investigates a robbery that took place during a mob-protected poker game. However, we must admitted that we were disappointed that the first still released by the producers is something we've seen dozens of times already: Pitt with a shotgun, doing Brad Pitt things. While we have no problems with Pitt being amazingly handsome while wielding a shotgun, it seems so generic, especially considering that this is a comedy-drama based on a terrifically mean novel by George Higgins.

All whining aside, we're 99% sure we're going to be there opening day. Andrew Dominik's an extremely talented filmmaker and the cast, which also includes Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell, Javier Bardem, and James Gandolfini, is one of the most solid that Hollywood's managed to assemble in some time. Since the film just wrapped, we won't be seeing it until March of 2012.

Online poker news site pokernews.com had a fascinating interview with Joe Navarro, a former FBI agent who's parlayed his knowledge gleaned from interrogations over the last few years into a successful career as a poker consultant and author, discussing that most freaked of live poker bugaboos, the tell. He's written two books so far: Read 'Em And Reap and 200 Poker Tells and the full interview offers a fascinating look at how you can both read others and prevent yourself from being an open book at the table. Here's a brief excerpt from the interview:

What advice would you give to a player who has no live poker experience[…]??

Well, first of all, you better hurry up [laughs]. There are a lot of poker players that have spent a lot of time and a lot of money over the years studying body language and poker tells, just to have that competitive edge over their adversaries. The second thing is nobody really knows how important poker tells are, because it depends on the situation, players and the hands. I can tell you, from Duke, Hellmuth, Greg Raymer, Antonio Esfandiari – these are all people that I’ve worked with – that they have made major decisions just based on body language. They were able to recognize that because they had developed that skill, and had they not known what to look for, they would’ve missed out on an opportunity to win the hand.

The World Series of Poker* Circuit stop at Harrah's Chester continued over the weekend with New Jersey's Steven Reese taking Event #8, the $555 no-limit hold 'em poker tournament. This was the first-ever tournament cash for the 45-year-old married father of two, who is a recreational player. He won $23,795 and his first WSOPC gold ring. David Rittmeyer, a 44-year-old compliance manager from Baltimore came in second and earned $14,669 for his runner-up finish.

In addition to Event #8, the Main Event made it down to its final nine players on Monday evening with Ramana Epparla in the lead. The amateur player is a business owner from Reading, PA. 269 players signed up for the three-day $1580 buy-in No Limit Hold 'Em tournament. While Epparla has a comfortable lead, all eyes are on Huy Nguyen, who's in the middle of the pack right now but has two previous WSOPC titles to his name after just making his first cash on the circuit in 2010.

Meanwhile, the first of 11 gold ring events kicked off at the 15th and final WSOPC stop of 2010-2011 season at Harrah's New Orleans. 473 players started in the first event, a $355 buy-in no-limit hold 'em tournament, which surely bodes well for the New Orleans event. With only 50 seats determined in the 100-head national championship, the circuit action is likely to get pretty, pretty interesting over the next week or so.

The American Gaming Association has begun efforts to lobby Congress to pass legislation that would regulate online poker in the United States, according to recent media reports.

The AGA represents the casino industry in the United States, and the AGA’s support of regulation points to the fact that United States gaming interests would like to enter the online poker market. The AGA held a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. The event was headed by AGA CEO Frank Fahrenkopf. Also appearing were Keith Smith, president of Boyd Gaming; Gordon Kanofsky, CEO of Ameristar Casinos; and Virginia McDowell, president of Isle of Capri Casinos.

“The millions of American who are playing poker online deserve to know they are playing safely with law-abiding operators,” Fahrenkopf said during a news conference, according to a story by The Associated Press.

The story went on to say that gaming leaders would be meeting with congressmen and White House officials on the subject of regulation of online poker in the coming days.

The lobbying effort comes less than a month after the U.S. Department of Justice seized the domains of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and UB.com, and issued indictments for some of their top executives. The DoJ accused those indicted of money laundering and bank fraud.

There is currently a bill in Congress — HR 1174, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act — that is identical to the past legislation that has not passed. A bill that attempted to make a carve out for just online poker, introduced by Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in December, did not make any progress in Congress. However, the AGA may be pushing for a new piece of legislation that differs from both of those bills.

Kenny "Super Tuan" Nguyen won the World Series of Poker* Circuit Main Event at Harrah's Chester on Tuesday night, earning his first major tournament title after accruing over $330,000 in lifetime tournament earnings. 269 players competed in the main event, a three-day $1580 buy-in No Limit Hold 'Em Championship event that generated a prize pool of over $391,000. The tournament drew a host of known pros, including "Miami" John Cernuto, Ari Engel, Sirous Jamshidi, Allen Kessler and Chris Reslock, but only a few of them would make it to day two.

When it was all said and done, however, Kenny Nguyen took first place and earned $94,901, the diamond-encrusted WSOPC gold ring and a seat in the million-dollar WSOP Circuit National Championship to be held May 27 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

In addition to the Main Event, the last regular tournament wrapped up with the conclusion of Event #10, the $345 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Event. It was run by Eric Breuer, a recreational poker player that owns a lawn care business in his native Downington, PA. He defeated pro Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler after a 2-hour heads-up battle to take the win, which earned him $12,015 and the ring.

An online poker company facing severe legal troubles says it has made a deal with the Department of Justice toward repaying deposits from players.

But Absolute Poker said in a statement on Tuesday that it still faces legal issues that must be resolved before American players can be repaid.

Two of Absolute's executives are among 11 people indicted last month, charged with tricking banks into processing illegal gambling payments by setting up elaborate schemes with shell companies and fake websites.

Absolute says its agreement says it can work with third-party payment processors to facilitate return of the funds. It says it plans to collect the funds from the processors, then establish proper ways to repay the players.

Two other companies, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, had previously announced separate agreements.
