Brighton born Chris Moorman’s recent million-dollar victory at the World Poker Tour event in Las Angeles once again rubber-stamped Britain’s prowess when it comes to the art of bluffing, balling and banking.

The most successful online poker player in the history of the game, with over $10m in online winnings, picked up a cheque for $1,015,460 after his victory in the City of Angels.

Now that’s a decent windfall for throwing a deck of 52 around a table, but what are the biggest purses ever handed out to British poker players?

Here's a little hint: Sam Trickett owns three of the slots.

1- Sam Trickett wins $10.1 Million at the $1m buy-in BIG ONE for ONE DROP

Sam Trickett is the all-time live tournament money winner in European poker and fifth on the global list.

In 2012, he paid $1 million to enter the biggest buy-in event in history and turned that investment into over $10 million after finishing runner-up to Antonio Esfandiari who took home $18 million for the win.

The BIG ONE for ONE DROP returns to the 2014 WSOP calendar and once again Trickett will be paying the seven-figure price tag in pursuit of another mammoth score.

2- Sam Trickett wins $2.1 Million in the $250k Challenge at 2013 Aussie Millions

Just months after pocketing the biggest score of his life, Sam Trickett travelled down under and won over $2 million in the Aussie Millions $250,000 Challenge, an event in which he finished second in 2011.

Trickett had to overcome the might of three of Germany’s greatest players after finding himself in four-way action against Tobias Reinkemeier, Fabian Quoss and Igor Kurganov.

Trickett eventually defeated Reinkemeier in heads-up action to take the title.

3 - Matthew Ashton wins $1.7 Million at $50k WSOP Players Championship

Matthew Ashton set the 2013 WSOP on fire with a series of mixed-game displays that sit up their with some of the best in the event's four-decade history.

After making three final tables in different forms of poker Ashton finally won a WSOP title in one of the most prestigious events on the planet.

Created in honour of the late, great David ‘Chip’ Reese, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship is the tournament that honours the best pound-for-pound poker player in the world. Ashton took it down for over $1.7m in prize money.

5 - Liv Boeree wins $1.7 Million at EPT San Remo Main Event

Liv Boeree’s victory at EPT San Remo was tremendously important for British poker.

The former astro-physics graduate and heavy metal fan was soon adorning the centre pages of Maxim and appearing on British daytime television, promoting the game throughout the world.

A sponsorship deal with PokerStars soon followed and she remains one of the hottest properties in the poker world.

5 - Sam Trickett wins $1.5 Million in $100,000 Aussie Millions Challenge

The third entry on this list for Sam Trickett comes courtesy of his spellbinding year in 2011 when he took over $4.5 million in total winnings from the felt including over $2.8m from the Crown Casino in Melbourne.

Trickett topped the $100,000 Challenge event that year after defeating fellow Brit Tony Bloom for a prize of $1.5 million.

Hmm, great information buddy about online poker bill.
Recently I had also heard about the licensed process, according to the bill, 10 licensed would be awarded by the state gaming commissions within a period of 180 days after the approval of the bill. At the mean time, it is meant to ensure that a competitive market is created and the licensees do not have an unfair advantages.
This licenses would last for 10 years only, and each licensees have to pay a 1-time fee of $10 million. This bills protect your gambling funds.

Yeah, there is licensed process available in US for poker. Great details.

FFP operates with its players foremost in mind, and fair play for all customers is paramount. With these principles in mind, the recreational online poker site has decided to stop serving players who reside in New Jersey, Nevada, and Delaware due to the availability of a regulated poker market in those states.

This decision takes effect today with players in these regulated U.S. markets set to receive email notification of the change in policy, and confirmation that their account will be closed. Players with existing FFP accounts who reside in these three states will have access to them to close out their balances. FFP will work quickly to return player funds to those affected.

FFP has really played an internal game with the player by effecting their mind. And that really makes a big effect over US market.

Last year, an Illinois State bill was introduced that would have legalized online poker within the State. Despite having some early success in the State Senate, the Illinois online poker bill died on the floor of the Illinois House of Representatives following some unfavorable remarks by Illinois Governor, Pat Quinn. Since this time, no other online poker bill has been introduced within the State and therefore online poker has remained illegal in Illinois.

Recent Illinois Online Poker Lawsuit

The fact that online poker is illegal within the borders of Illinois has not stopped Illinois residents from bringing suit against online poker websites. The most recent lawsuit was brought by Kelly Sonnenberg, an Illinois resident, against PokerStars, and others, to recover money lost by her son on the online poker website. Ms. Sonnenberg sought damages under Illinois’ Loss Recovery Act (the “LRA”), which allows aggrieved parties to recover monetary damages from the winnings of other players using online poker websites. PokerStars and the other defendants moved to dismiss the case on the grounds that they were not “winners,” as defined under the LRA, and thus should not be named as defendants.

Court’s Decision

While the Court did find that Ms. Sonnenberg alleged enough facts to allege that “losses occurred in Illinois through illegal gambling Internet site[s],” the Court ultimately ruled in the defendants’ favor, finding recovery under the LRA inapplicable to online poker sites, which it defined as “third party service providers.” The Court declined to rule on PokerStars’ argument that their previous settlement with the federal government after Black Friday in 2011 precluded any further claims against them.

Takeaway and the Effect on Online Poker

As we have previously noted, there are a number of bills pending before the United States Congress that may redefine “gambling” under federal law and make the LRA and other similar state laws obsolete. The Court’s decision in Ms. Sonnenberg’s case is unlikely to affect the continuing efforts at both the federal and state level to legalize, regulate and tax online poker and other casino games.

Court dismisses Illinois online poker case - Lexology

I never try to read any rules and court low before playing in a casino. But it is nice information. Actually, I am not much interested in law and regulation but I like to play poker very much.

The third study of the industry of Spanish poker published by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), the equivalent of the ARJEL in France, has indicated that Spain is a country favorable to the practice of online games, and that players prefer more casino games, sports betting, bingo or lotteries. Online poker attracts numerous gamers in Spain, among whom the majority are degree holders: university degree (52%) and post-graduate diploma (9%). In online casino gaming, the rate of degreed players decreases by 48% for university degree and 8% for post-graduate diploma. In Spain, 81% of players of online poker are men, among whom 68% are less than 34 years old. But slot machine attracts the most of young players of less than 34 years old (78%).

According to the DGOJ, online poker presents less risks of addiction, even if gamers spend more than one hour to play on it. In fact, 83% of players of online poker admit to have sessions of at least one hour, against 58% and 57% for players of bingo and casino games. The attendance is also higher compared with other online games, but gamers are ready to stop the game in case of absolute necessity, which avoids the problem of addiction. 16% of players of poker play everyday, and 39% for at least once a week. 47% of poker players can stop easily their session if important event occurs. That is encouraging compared with answers of players of casino and gambling machines, respectively 30% and 27%. 1,027 Spanish admit having played at least once in 2013.

I had never played in Spain online poker but I love online poker play more than live poker play.

More online poker play has taken place on the World Series of Poker’s website in Clifton and Wayne than in any other Bergen or Passaic County towns, but a number of Bergen towns are significantly outperforming their population rankings.

Those are some of the findings based on data supplied by wsop-com officials on the habits of online poker players in New Jersey since the gambling was legalized by the state in late November.

Many of the state’s largest municipalities, not surprisingly, ranked high in total minutes of online poker played, including leader Toms River (7th-largest population), Jersey City (2nd in both categories), and Cherry Hill (3rd in online minutes played, 13th in population).

But Lyndhurst managed to rank 29th in the gambling even though it is just the state’s 126th-ranked town by population. One spot back, in 30th, is Paterson, the state’s third-largest city.

Other Bergen communities where the online poker play was far ahead of the population ranking include Tenafly, Saddle Brook, Lodi and New Milford.

That list reflects the fact that online gambling seems to be occurring in both blue-collar and wealthy communities, which is what online gaming analysts have predicted.

Casino executives also say that preliminary research is showing that most of the play is not coming from regular visitors to Atlantic City — which, if it holds up, would stem fears that the new gambling is simply cannibalizing brick-and-mortar play at the expense of casino service jobs in that struggling city. Online players offer casinos a potentially lucrative database of new patrons, it is believed, who could then be targeted with discount offers to become new casino visitors as well.

Some online poker research suggests that the profile of the likely players – young, affluent urban males – might favor such cities as Hoboken, Jersey City, Secaucus and Newark because of their proximity via mass transit to Manhattan. That seems to be occurring, as Jersey City, Hoboken (fourth-most minutes played with the 34th-highest population), and Secaucus (79th and 156th) all matched or exceeded their expected rankings.

But Newark, the state’s largest city, has lagged in that respect, ranking 40th in online poker minutes.

Toms River in Ocean County, the state’s seventh-largest municipality, topped the Wsop-com rankings, which do not specify the number of minutes played per town.

The minutes-played calculations are based on logging the IP address of the computer being used to play online poker, so it’s not clear if some towns may be magnets for players from other towns. While the law signed by Governor Christie a year ago bans restaurants or bars from advertising for online gamblers to play at their establishments, friends can privately agree to meet anywhere.

Residents and non-residents alike who set up online accounts can play, but only within New Jersey because of “geolocation” tools that have in some cases incorrectly rejected players near the state’s borders.

Atlantic City’s casinos have taken in about $28 million in online gaming revenue while paying more than $4 million in online gaming taxes, at a rate of 15 percent — nearly double the rate that the casinos pay on their in-house revenues. Those figures are below expectations of most industry analysts, but a number of the casinos have delayed expanding their marketing budgets until issues of geolocation and the reluctance of many large banks and credit card companies to allow gambling deposits are resolved.

New Jersey is only the third state — after Nevada and Delaware — to authorize the gambling and only the second (after Delaware) to permit online casino gaming beyond just poker. Wsop-com is one of 15 gambling websites operating in New Jersey, but has a major share of activity.

Many European countries and others throughout the world have allowed online casino gambling for a number of years.

French online gambling regulator ARJEL released its Q1 gross gaming revenue figures this week, and the picture remains bleak for poker.

While online poker continues to attract the most players and generate a higher level of turnover than other forms of online gambling, it also yields the lowest level of gross gaming revenue.

France’s cash game traffic has been in freefall since 2011, and so it continues: ARJEL reported that average active weekly player numbers fell 6 percent to 246,000 in Q1, down from a peak of 300,000 active players in 2011.

Gross gaming revenue for poker fell by 7 percent, to €61 million ($68.7 million), with cash game spend plummeting 15 percent to €1 billion ($1.12 billion). This despite a 5 percent increase in tournament entry fees.

First reported by Chris Grove of OnlinePokerReport-com, New York State Senator John Bonacic has reintroduced legislation to legalize online poker in the Empire State. Bonacic introduced S 5302, a bill that would amend current New York laws to allow certain forms of interactive poker games, on May 13, 2015.

New York was one of a handful of states expected to introduce online gaming legislation in 2015, but the general consensus is the state is still several years away from acting on one of these bills, as legislators have indicated they want to see the current land-based expansion completed before debating further expansion of gaming in the state.

British poker superstar Sam Trickett is on the lookout for a new sponsor after he and Everest Poker parted ways by mutual consent.

Trickett signed with Everest Poker as a brand ambassador in March 2014, which was something of a major coup for the online poker site. Trickett is the current number one in the United Kingdom all-time money listings, according to The Hendon Mob, and currently occupies sixth place in the worldwide standings courtesy of his $20,566,809 in live tournament winnings.

Part of Trickett's deal saw him return to the live poker tournament circuit with renewed vigor and was almost immediately successful with the former plumber finishing as runner-up to Andrea Dato for €65,888 in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Venice Main Event.

Two cashes at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Vienna festival followed that deep run in Venice, before Trickett cashed in the EPT Grand Final Main Event.

State lawmakers have to fill a $1.2 billion budget shortfall, but Republicans who control the state Legislature don’t favor Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s tax-heavy, $33.8 billion plan.

Might they have a few aces up their sleeves as the calendar creeps closer to the June 30 budget deadline?

Lawmakers are considering a huge expansion of the state’s gambling laws, with legalizing Internet gaming the centerpiece of a bill queued up in the Senate. The legislation would also allow racinos and casinos to place slot machines in off-track-betting facilities and satellite locations, with as many as 32 new homes for slots possible.

To get in on the action, casinos would have to pay hefty upfront fees. If lawmakers move quickly enough, it’s conceivable those fees could flow into state coffers sometime in the next fiscal year, but state Sen. Kim Ward, who is spearheading the legislation, said plugging the shortfall isn’t the objective.

Byron Kaverman is no stranger to success in tournament poker. However, despite years of grinding major events across the globe with tremendous results, the elusive first-place finish still evaded him. That changed on Friday, though, as Kaverman earned his first World Series of Poker bracelet in Event #37: $10,000 Six-Max No-Limit Hold'em Championship.

With nearly $4.3 million in career winnings prior to today's final table, Kaverman was already a respected grinder on the live circuit among his peers. This marked his 20th career WSOP cash, but he's made his presence known primarily on the World Poker Tour, where in Season XII he cashed a tour-leading seven times, including a runner-up showing in the WPT World Championship for $727,860. In addition to that score (the largest of his career), he had a second-place finish at the WPT bestbet Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble and a fourth-place finish at the WPT Grand Prix de Paris.

With the future of online poker hanging in the balance, U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, refuses to fold.

Entrenched in a legislative showdown with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Barton recently introduced legislation to facilitate a national marketplace for online poker. H.R. 2888, also known as the Internet Poker Freedom Act of 2015, has the potential to create an annual multibillion dollar national industry, but the smug visage of crony capitalism seems to be standing in the way.

The bill is very similar to Barton’s last attempt to pass similar legislation in 2013, with some slight modifications. As Barton recently put it in an interview with the site CardsChat:

A California lawmaker is folding his effort to legalize online poker.

Assemblyman Mike Gatto, a Democrat from Glendale, said Thursday that he's cancelling the first hearing on his proposal, which was scheduled for next week.

Gatto says there's no agreement among Internet-poker operators, racetracks, card rooms, Indian gaming tribes and other gambling interests. It's the latest in a series of failed proposals to expand gambling in recent years.

Gatto's bill, AB9, would establish state regulations for the popular Internet game. It would have allowed card rooms and tribal casino operators to operate online poker websites through licenses issued by the state Gambling Control Commission.

But tribes, card room owners and operators such as PokerStars opposed the bill.

Other proposals to regulate online poker are still pending in the Legislature.

Vladimir Putin isn’t the most popular world leader, especially in the United States where a recent Gallup poll found that Americans have a 60 percent unfavorable view on the Russian president.

Putin has inserted his powerful country into the Syrian Civil War, granted asylum to National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden, restricted gay and lesbian civil rights, and most recently flew bomber jets just 40 miles off the coast of California on July 4th.

But Putin, whose presidency began with wages tripling and incomes rising nearly three percent, is now trying to combat an economic crisis, and the country with strict regulations that outlaw poker is now considering legalizing it both in land-based and online venues after a study revealed Russia stands to reap upwards of $100 million annually from iPoker legalization.
