Gov. Brian Sandoval, following the committee's final meeting Wednesday before the Legislature convenes in February, said he's comfortable state gaming regulators are taking appropriate steps to license reputable casino operators and technology providers while protecting players' interests.
Nevada gaming regulators licensed slot machine makers Bally Technologies and International Game Technology in June to provide interactive gaming products to casino operators. Shuffle Master has received tentative approval and supplier and could receive final approval.

"I think the timing [of the hearing] is around the idea that Indian tribes are interested in drafting their own legislation," said John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance. "They want to stake a claim to the process and feel that the best way for them to assert their interests is through their own bill."
The hearing will take place at 2:15 p.m. Eastern time from room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Building. A live webcast of the event will be available on the Indian Affairs website. Jon Porter, a former Congressman from Nevada and a lobbyist for the PPA, will testify at the hearing. The other witnesses are all from tribal interests: Tracie Stevens, chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission; Bruce Bozsum, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe; Glen Gobin, secretary of the Tulalip Tribes; Jamie Hummingbird, chairman of the National Tribal Gaming Commissioners/Regulators; and Elizabeth Homer, an attorney who handles American Indian interests, particularly related to gaming.

The company, which offered its initial public offering in December and saw stocks sold as high as $15.91 a share, closed the day at $5.08, and fell to as low as $2.93 a share after the market closed and the news broke.
Zynga did report revenue of $332 million in the second quarter, only slightly behind expectations of $343 million, but a revised yearly forecast to $1.15 billion, from $1.47 billion, caused the stock price to fall drastically.
The culprit seems to be a declining database of players who are willing to pay for their games. The company acquired the popular “Draw Something” game, expanding their overall player pool, but existing games such as “FarmVille” and “CityVille” lost their appeal with users.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan handed 54-year-old Ira Rubin one of the longest prison sentences yet in a prosecution that resulted in charges against nearly a dozen people and shut down the U.S. operations of the three largest Internet poker companies.
The government said Rubin fooled U.S. banks into processing gambling proceedings by making it appear that money moving through the poker companies was actually the proceeds of transactions on websites for golf stores and other businesses.
Kaplan called Rubin an "unreformed con man and fraudster" and rejected Rubin's claims that he was finished committing crimes after 15 convictions.
"I know this is my last chance to have a productive life," Rubin told Kaplan.

Card sharks are ramping up pressure on the federal government to remove a cloud of uncertainty hanging over Internet poker, caused by a patchwork of federal laws that has left the game in a state of limbo in the U.S.
“There’s a significant reason to believe Congress should do something this year. It’s our No. 1 priority, that there are strong consumer protections, so our members can go to a site that is safe and secure, and they can deposit their money and get it back when they want it. Those things aren’t guaranteed right now,” said John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, a group with more than 1 million members lobbying lawmakers to tackle the issue.

Moving between VIP levels
So far the VIP levels were calculated based on how many Frequent Player Points were earned during the last three calendar months, but starting from September, only the last month will be taken into account. So the points you earned in August will be only counted on to determine your VIP level for September. The VIP levels will be automatically assigned on the first day of the month. The required point amounts will remain the same as previously.
Earning the Frequent Player Points and exchanging them for money
The main change in the Olympic-Online VIP program is made regarding the monetary value of FPPs which will grow at least tenfold for most players! Frequent Player Points will remain as the core value of the Poker VIP Club. The players can get additional value by redeeming the bonus dollars.
Every player is earning FPPs according to their VIP level. Also the currency coefficient is taken into account: €1 is giving FPPs 1.4 times and £1 is giving them 1.6 times more than $1.

The ISPT is a grandiose ambition of the French financing company Groupe Bernard Tapie, who failed in their attempt at the purchase of the now-defunct Full Tilt Poker. Undaunted, GBT moved onward with its plans for the ISPT, announcing earlier this year that they will hold their first tournament at legendary Wembley Stadium in London from May 31 to June 6 of next year. Yesterday, GBT announced a very prestigious signing to lend credence to their plans.
The ISPT announced that three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner – and two time $50,000 Poker Players’ Champion at the WSOP – Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi would be the official ambassador for the ISPT. Mizrachi let his followers on Twitter know about the deal, chirping, “I just want to announce I will be @ISPT_poker official ambassador. Will be one of the biggest tournaments ever held!”

It took Sahamies just 1,724 hands spread across 39 sessions to lose $445,365, enough to make him the week’s biggest loser. Close behind was “kaju85,” who played 6,061 hands across 57 sessions and dropped $428,034, most of which went to the week’s biggest winner, “longerpig.”
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen anyone win more than $700,000, but that’s exactly what “longerpig” did this week, banking $710,798 in 14,109 hands across 126 sessions. That was quite a bit more than next biggest winner, Terje “Terken89” Augdal, who won $280,097 in 8,192 hands.
Here’s a look at some of the more interesting hands and story lines from the past week of online action:
