GAMBLERS could be free to punt online during live sporting matches and play online poker for cash under controversial moves being considered to legalise Australian gaming websites.
Documents obtained by The Daily Telegraph show the Federal Government recently briefed the Australian gaming industry that measures enabling online "in-play" betting would be allowed in the next six to 12 months.
In a bid to help punters avoid unregulated overseas betting, industry sources believe online poker will be trialled for up to five years while online in-play sports betting will be approved.

The Illinois Senate President, John Cullerton, has become a big supporter of online poker. Cullerton has announced that the state of Illinois should move quickly to establish themselves as a leader in online poker as well as other online gambling options. The senate president wants to create a new division with the state lottery to become the first state in the US with online gambling.
Cullerton sat down and wrote a letter to the governor of the state, Pat Quinn, as well as other members of legislation. The letter read, in part: “The state could organize the first major poker pool, garner worldwide popularity, and position itself as a ‘hub’ for multi-state and international iGaming.” Cullerton went on to state that he believes it is ‘imperative’ that the state acts now before other states take the lead.

Just last month, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach hosted a special Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, which saw a large group of celebrities racing for charity. The event was a great success but was not without incident. Former reality TV star Brody Jenner and actor Eddie Cibrian both competed in the race in which Cibrian would eventually crash into Jenner’s ride! Jenner was not happy, as he finished in last place, and has called Cibrian out for a different type of challenge.

Online gambling may soon be legal in over a dozen states, and everyone from governors, global casino giants and maybe even Facebook wants a piece of the action.
Months after shutting down major websites such as FullTilt Poker and PokerStars, the Justice Department said on Dec. 23 it would not interfere with states legalizing web-based poker and other gambling. Online sports betting would not be legal.
California, Nevada, New Jersey and about 10 other states are looking to raise revenue by legalizing and taxing online gambling .

Bob sat down at his computer bright and early on January 1, 2015, ready to get back into the game. Online poker was back in the United States, after regulations passed by the Congress in 2013 and signed by President Barack Obama – and the resulting one year blackout of online poker, which made playing on non-U. S. sites a felony, in those regulations for licenses to be handed out – had passed. For the first time in what seemed to have been ages, Bob was ready to play poker again online.

Australia may be on the brink of legalizing online poker according to a report in the Daily Telegraph which suggests the government has briefed the gambling industry that the move will happen in the next six to 12 months.
The online newspaper said it had seen documents indicating the shift in policy was imminent and it published an email from Merril Lynch analyst Mark Bryan sent to the company’s clients which said, "In-play live online betting: Many in the industry indicated that they expect this to be legalised alongside poker in the next six-12 months following overseas precedents.
“It seems (Communications Minister) Stephen Conroy’s department recently provided a brief on draft legislation.”
Conroy’s office did not deny the briefing took place and said it was finalizing its review of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Many online poker operators accept Australian players but Australian operators such as Centrebet cannot allow real-money play for Aussie players.

Ever since Everleaf Poker slipped out of the US online poker scene after it was warned off with a cease and desist letter by the US authorities, players in the United States are still waiting for their payments. While Everleaf Poker has not remained as silent as Full Tilt Poker, whose players also found themselves in a similar position, the group hasn’t been able to offer its players much constructive advice in how to go about getting their funds. Everleaf told US players to open a non US bank account (which would entail them traveling overseas to do so), or to open accounts with a couple of e-processors (which don’t serve the US market in any case).

The Obama administration on Saturday signaled that it is up to states to decide whether to legalize and regulate Internet gambling within their borders. Brian Deese, deputy director of the National Economic Council, said that while Internet sports betting is prohibited by federal law, the administration believes states should decide how and whether to authorize other forms of Internet gambling, including poker. Deese said that the administration will “continue to examine” Internet gambling regulation and related issues, adding that it is “open to solutions that would help guard against the use of online gambling sites as tools for conducting illegal activities or preying on unsuspecting individuals to the extent that online gambling is permitted.”

Appointment of former Ulster Bank boss as chief financial officer is a gamble by Paddy Power to help its fortunes in US
This week, in what was one of the greatest comebacks in Irish commercial history, former Ulster Bank boss Cormac McCarthy returned to the front stage of Irish business when he was appointed chief financial officer of quoted bookmaker Paddy Power.
He's back! In a resurrection worthy of Lazarus himself, Cormac McCarthy, who quit as Ulster Bank boss in July 2010, is the new CFO of Paddy Power. He becomes an executive director of Ireland's ninth most valuable Stock Exchange-listed company with a market value of over €2.4bn.

The US online poker industry is in deep trouble as the US federal government is cracking down upon on online poker rooms and putting US online poker players in despair. On the other hand, things are getting better for online poker in Australia. Andrew Twaits, one of the largest online sports betting operators in Australia, has decided to exert pressure on the Australian government to regulate the Australian online poker industry. If the government regulates online poker in Australia, the huge online poker community in Australia can play in a safe, protected, and regulated online poker industry. Besides, online poker operators licensed in Australia will be protected from legal problems of the type faced by online poker sites such as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. Many Australian poker players are of the opinion that Australia should learn from the US and make proper online poker laws to protect its online poker players and to prevent the industry from collapsing.

There are tons of card games on the Internet, but they all lack something tangible, like real playing cards. If you wanted to play a game of poker with your friend but don't want the virtual deck to kill the mood, one ingenious soul decided to build a remote card-holding apparatus dubbed Vanna, which reminds me a little of a scrabble tile holder.
The idea is that while you're playing a card game over a webcam, the device holds the opponents' cards facing away from you at a slight angle. Your opponents' webcam is set up to see the faces of the cards and you facing them across from it. It doesn't specify if both players can use them at the same time, but I don't see why not.

The poker world is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the big tournaments, big stories, and big personalities in the poker world. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. In this edition, we take a look at the fourth annual PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), by the numbers:
1 In-the-money finishes for Daniel Negreanu. “KidPoker” made his only cash count though, finishing second in the $1,050 No Limit Draw event for $15,330.
3 Number of entrants from Yugoslavia – a country that hasn’t existed since at least 2006. Four countries, Burundi, Jordan, Mozambique and British Virgin Islands had one entrant each.
4 Number of SCOOP titles won by Shaun Deeb this year. Deeb won the $2,100 Seven-card Stud, $2,100 Triple Stud, $2,100 Stud Hi-Lo and $2,100 HORSE events to set the record for most titles won in a single year.
20 Events won by players claiming Canada as their home country. In the previous three years of SCOOP, the Great White North laid claim to only 28 SCOOP titles.
27 Cashes by Deeb, the most by any player, as he rolled to the SCOOP Player of the Series award. Team PokerStars Pro Marcin “goral” Horcecki gave Deeb a run for his money, finishing with 26 cashes.
113 Players who pocketed six figures during SCOOP. High Main Event champ “GripDsNutz” led the way by earning $814,079.74.
291 Total players in the four events Deeb won. Deeb beat out 64 players (Seven-card Stud), 68 players (Triple Stud), 74 players (Seven-card Stud Hi-Lo) and 85 players (HORSE).
1,649 Average income per capita (in US dollars) for Honduras, a country that took home $220,240.86 – or enough to pay 133.5 Hondurans a years wages.
63,530 Russian players entered in SCOOP events – the most for any single country. Germany was the closest with 60,163.
65,332,179 Total US dollars awarded in prize money through the 120 events spread across three different buy-in levels.

Plans for Illinois to oversee a state-run online gaming industry underwent major revisions Friday, as a third amendment to House Bill 4148 puts the business of running games in the hands of affiliates.
An online poker platform would be developed within the state’s lottery and then could be licensed out to 16 casinos and racetracks in the state. Each property would have to pay a $5 million licensing fee in order to use the state’s platform. Affiliates could not use their own poker site.

The free-play platform runs poker, blackjack, slots and roulette. It already has 9,000 “monthly users” vying for “real world prizes.” For now, Los Angeles-based RocketFrog will look to scoop up advertising dollars from a wide range of industries.
While Anderson, who left MySpace in 2009, serves as an adviser, the company is led by an executive team consisting of Brett Calapp, Matt Osborn and Uri Kozai. Reality-TV star Brody Jenner is also behind the project.
