Gambling websites are on the increase as the recession bites harder into peoples pockets.

This year has seen the launch of more and more Internet gambling sites, with some of the industrys biggest names getting involved.

Online gambling has seen a marked increase in the past year as the recession starts to bite, but both Bingo and Poker have become the most popular of all the games.

People can play for free and for real money, where in some cases, its high stakes. There are many stories of high rollers and big winners in both Bingo and Poker For example Betfair Poker is just one of the sites offering $1,000,000 games.

All of the Poker and Bingo sites offer massive incentives to begin playing, most are a money match bonus so if you deposit $500 they will match it which is a great start and allows you the player to double your chances of winning.

Casino Games and Online Gambling Guide by ixgames is not just a site promoting gambling, but it offers some hints and tips about playing the games. Each day a new article is posted offering readers strategy advice, gaming advice and reviews of the latest games.

So why have we seen such an upturn in the gambling market recently? Since 2009 the online gambling market in the UK has exploded from a few sites to hundreds of websites in what can only be described as a multi million pound industry in less than 3 years. The only common factor is that casinos generally see more foot fall when the recession hits hard, and with people preferring the internet, the footfall traffic has now gone online.

The added luxury of playing online means that players can do it at work, in bed or even on the train which makes it far more accessible, but does that mean we are experiencing more gambling abuse? Looking at the statistics we are not seeing a massive incline in gambling abuse, this is partly due to the measures that the sites put in place to ensure no underage gambling and the limitations placed on credit cards. But thats not to say that there isnt an increase. The increase though could be attributed to the general awareness of gambling.

I've always wondered if the use of the internet doesn't help the problem gambler. When I lived in New Jersey, I would spend a day in Atlantic City since it was a 2+ hour drive. Table minimums were 10 bucks and I could go through some money since I was there for hours.

With the internet, the limits are lower, and I can easily 'leave' the casino if I am having a bad day and go off and do something else.

So, the games are easier to get to, but I dont feel like I have to justify my commute by staying for hours. I can get my gambling buzz at a low level table and then leave.

There's not a lot of justice in the world when Lindsay Lohan, who has learned that she can constantly break the law and violate her parole, is back on the street after serving less than a day in prison. Although she had been sentenced to serve 28 days, Lohan was released last night after posting $300,000 bail.

To try and avoid another early release for Lohan, Judge Elden Fox had denied her bail and she was immediately taken into custody following her hearing. Fox had made this move to keep Lohan in jail until her October 22 court date, but his plan was promptly foiled when Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, insisted Lohan deserved bail and another judge, Patricia M. Schnegg, overturned Fox's ruling. Lohan is still due back in court next month.

During Lohan's last jail sentence, the floundering starlet served just 13 days of a 90-day sentence and 23 days of an additional 90-day court-ordered rehab.

Now free to engage in all things Lohan, she is required to wear a SCRAM bracelet and avoid venues where alcohol is the "chief item of sale." Lohan has worn a SCRAM before, which went off at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty (where alcohol was probably the chief item of sale).

Now if you bet that Lindsay Lohan would go back to jail in Bodog's celebrity betting section, congratulations! You won your bet – even if she did only go for one day. Bodog's also got odds on whether Kate Gosselin will marry her bodyguard, whether or not Jennifer Lopez will get canned from American Idol and which celebrity couple will be next to split.

A public hearing is scheduled for 6 to 8 tonight at North Charleston City Hall to take comments on whether South Carolina should legalize charitable raffles and update social gambling laws.

The special Senate Judiciary subcommittee, appointed by Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell, R-Charleston, will meet in the third floor Council Chambers in city hall at 2500 City Hall Lane, North Charleston.

Other public hearings are scheduled for Greenville, Rock Hill and Florence. The dates and locations of those hearings are posted on the South Carolina Legislature Online website under the Citizens Interest button. McConnell said lawmakers need to hear from the public before considering how to vote on the matter.

"I am hoping that we will find grass-roots support for changing these antiquated and outdated laws, dealing with both raffles and gambling," he said. "As I have repeatedly said, it makes no sense that qualified charitable organizations in this state cannot hold raffles to support their causes. Additionally, the gambling laws, written in the early 1800s, are so convoluted and difficult to interpret, that they need to be changed, if only to be sure that they are correctly and uniformly enforced."

The pushback comes from people who are concerned that changes to the state's gaming law could create a loophole that would allow for the return of video poker.

Best known for playing a man vying for the affections of Marilyn Monroe dressed in drag in Some Like it Hot, legendary actor Tony Curtis succumbed to cardiac arrest after suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He had been hospitalized this past July near Las Vegas after suffering breathing problems while at a book signing for his autobiography American Prince: A Memoir, at a local Costco. Curtis passed away Wednesday night at his home in Las Vegas.

During his lifetime, Curtis appeared in more than 100 films including Spartacus and was nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Defiant Ones.

Curtis, who famously had an affair with Monroe, had been married six times, with one of his wives being Psycho actress Janet Leigh. He was married to Jill Vandenberg Curtis at the time of his death. The couple had been married since 1998 and she was 42 years his junior.

"The age gap doesn't bother us. We laugh a lot. My body is functioning and everything is good. She's the sexiest woman I've ever known. We don't think about time. I don't use Viagra either. There are 50 ways to please your lover," Curtis had said of their age difference.

Back in 2008, Curtis, who estimated he had slept with at least 1,000 women, told the Daily Mail, "This showed itself in a lot of ways. I was insecure about women, so I wanted to go to bed with them all. I was insecure about being a poor Jewish boy (Curtis was born Bernie Schwartz, the son of a Hungarian immigrant tailor). I was insecure that Hollywood never gave me an Oscar."

Curtis had six children with his various spouses. Two with Janet Leigh, two with actress Christine Kaufmann, and two with Leslie Allen. Tragically, his son Nicholas with Allen died of a heroin overdose in 1994, at the age of 23. Of this Curtis said, "As a father you don't recover from that. There isn't a moment at night that I don't remember him."

His daughter with Janet Leigh, actress Jamie Lee Curtis, stated: "My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages. He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world. He will be greatly missed."

Any plans for Halloween? If you’re looking to get spooked this year then you may consider going to the scariest place on earth – Las Vegas. Vegas hotels and casinos are going all out this year to promote Halloween to the fullest with their haunted casinos, Circus Circus Fright Dome and even a Fetish and Fantasy Ball.

At the top of the list is the Circus Circus Fright Dome, which was voted one of the top five scariest attractions in the U.S. The attraction houses five different haunted houses full of the scariest scenes you could possibly imagine which are reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw massacre and Saw. From watching the video clip from their website, you may want to wear an adult diaper if you have plans on going.

If a haunted house doesn’t do it for you then another option is Madame Tussauds wax museum. If true to life wax figures aren’t scary enough then you’ll want to check out their Halloween creations. This year, for the final week of October, they’re turning the museum into a haunted prison filled with wax Zombies and such. Visitors can walk through the “Scream Horror Maze” which tells a spooky tale in the dark.

A third option is the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's Fetish and Fantasy Ball which is a feast for the eyes with all the exotic and outlandish costumes that adorn the night. The ball gives an air or a Brazilian street carnival on acid. This is a great party to go to especially if you’ve spent your evening walking through zombie filled rooms. For those brave souls wanting to let their guard down and get freaky can start planning their ultra-fab costume for the October 30th event.

There are many more Halloween events happening this year in Vegas and if you’re feeling brave and put up with a gore fest then Vegas may just be the perfect Halloween destination.

New research shows "pre-commitment" technology can be effective in reducing the amount of money problem gamblers spend on poker machines and can help problem gamblers to better manage their spending.

The Federal and South Australian Governments have released the final evaluations of the PlaySmart and ChangeTracker pre-commitment trials conducted in hotels and clubs in metropolitan and regional South Australia commissioned by the Responsible Gambling Working Party which includes a number of Not for Profit welfare organisations.

The pre-commitment trials are expected to provide information for the design features and implementation of an effective national pre-commitment scheme.

The trials required players to set and monitor voluntary limits on the amount of money and time spent gambling on poker machines.

The PlaySmart trial – described as one of the largest trials of pre-commitment conducted in Australia – shows that pre-commitment can be effective in reducing the amount problem gamblers spend on poker machines.

PlaySmart is a card-based pre-commitment system with onscreen warnings to remind players when they have reached their spending limit or time limit and when to take a break from playing.

The study, involving 268 people, found that net turnover on poker machines by problem gamblers using the pre-commitment system decreased by 56 per cent.

Pre-commitment technology did not appear to significantly impact on the spending behaviours of recreational gamblers, where turnover decreased by only five per cent.

The study also found that pre-commitment is an effective way to encourage better money management and more informed spending decisions, particularly by problem gamblers.

Sixty-two per cent of participants agreed that using pre-commitment encouraged them to think about how much they could afford to spend on poker machines, and problem gamblers found it most effective in informing their spending.

The PlaySmart report acknowledges that the participant numbers were limited so findings should be interpreted with caution.

Although the number of participants was low, the ChangeTracker trial, which required the 20 registered players to manually detail their spending habits on a record card each time they played - shows most of the participants wanted to keep track of their spending on poker machines.

The Australian Government provided $260,000 to evaluate the impact of three pre-commitment trials in South Australia. The evaluation of the third trial of an electronic tag device is due in mid-2011.

The 2010 Productivity Commission Report into Gambling found that a pre-commitment scheme is a strong, practicable and ultimately cost-effective option to minimise the harm caused by problem gambling.

The South Australian Government says that PlaySmart pre-commitment technology has now been rolled out to 74 gaming venues across South Australia covering 20 per cent of the state’s gaming machines.

The Gillard Government has committed to rolling out a full national pre-commitment scheme by 2014, as part of an agreement on gambling reforms between the Prime Minister and the Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie.

The Productivity Commission estimates that there are between 80,000 and 160,000 problem gamblers. In addition there are between 230,000 and 350,000 people at moderate risk.

The rcg at full tilt generates the entire deck of cards preflop for each table. This has been challenged by many sceptics however who theorize that the cards are not predetermined and will fall differently depending on what the players hold that call. This argument lacks weight as it is impossible to tell if the cards would be different had another player been involved. Thus giving the conspiracy theororist ammunition since it can't be disproven either. Bottom line is, It would not be in the best interest for any poker site to manipulate the cards. Just like in poker, the risk is sometimes not worth the reward.

Are welfare recipients entitled to go on vacation? The California Department of Social Services released a report revealing that over $69 million in welfare money was spent in several vacation destinations such as Las Vegas, Hawaii and Florida which is sending tax payers spinning.

The reports released by the LA Times revealed that Las Vegas was the location frequented by welfare recipients the most, with over $11.8 million being spent at top Vegas hotels such as the Tropicana, the Venetian and several shops and restaurants throughout the city between 2007 and 2010.

According to the LA Times, many casinos will block the use of welfare cards in their ATMs but that doesn’t stop people from going to a local convenience store to withdraw the funds. The San Diego County district attorney’s office claims that a one off situation isn’t a problem but its repeat offenders that they are looking for.

The problem seems to lie with the state of California not following up on probably welfare fraud cases including people who may be receiving multiple welfare checks from more than one state. Welfare checks are meant to cover family’s basic day to day expenses, so you can safely assume that those checks aren’t given with a fancy holidays in mind.

Susan Boyle is returning to American soil, this time, to the Dancing with the Stars set where she is set to perform "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. And if all goes well, Boyle will not be leaving the country in tears, because she's cleared the song with producers before even leaving Scotland. She will perform live tonight.

Just last month, Boyle was totally devastated when she arrived to the set of America's Got Talent and was told she could not sing former Velvet Underground Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" because he had personally blocked her from doing so. This news was divulged to Boyle just two hours before she was supposed to perform. Reportedly, Boyle burst into tears and hopped on the first plane back to the U.K.

Reed, however, denied that he blocked Boyle from sining his song, telling Access Hollywood that the problem was that the song was not cleared for the American market in time for the show. Apparently, the song had only been cleared for use in the U.K.

Meanwhile, with Michael Bolton and David Hasselhoff kicked to the curb, the remaining celebrities on gearing up for the third week of the top-rated dancing show. Word has it, Bolton is even demanding an apology from judge Bruno Tonioli, who said that Bolton's jive was the worst jive in DWTS history. "I think he should apologize publicly and he should be reprimanded for it," Bolton said on Good Morning America.

However, Bolton shouldn't start holding his breath. "Bruno's role as a judge is to give his honest opinions on the quality of the dances he's judging, which is what he did in this case," a rep for Dancing with the Stars said in a statement to RadarOnline. "While we respect the feelings of our celebrities and dancers, we don't feel Bruno should be expected to apologize for doing his job."
