Which do you like best and why? I like both, although I have a slight preference for Xenforo.

There are many reasons why you would be afraid. Either walking in the streets when there are no streetlights, or in the house when the power fails. If you can't see everything, your mind will wonder ... ...

Bitcoin seems set to revolutionize the world of online gambling. A new infographic explains why and how to casino operators. There has always been gambling, and there will always be gambling. I am a firm believer in everyone’s right to spend their money as they like. I don’t gamble, and I don’t understand the urge to gamble, but I will fight to death for your right to gamble if that’s what you want (adapted from Voltaire).
The fight for the right to gamble is on. Governments everywhere impose more and more regulations on casinos, poker clubs, slot machines, and all kinds of sport betting. When the free, open Internet emerged in the early 90s, we got online gambling immediately – the gambling industry (like the porn industry) has been a very early adopter of all new online technologies, from videoconferencing and virtual reality to mobile. Now the pendulum is swinging back – Big Capital and Big Government are in full control freak mode – and online gambling finds itself under heavy regulatory fire.
Enter Bitcoin, which seems made precisely for online gambling. If both users and providers use appropriate precautions, it’s very difficult for the state to block them. If you live in a place where online gambling is heavily regulated – or outright banned – you can easily gamble online in Bitcoin all over the planet.
The Pirate Bay and WikiLeaks have demonstrated that nation-wide IP blocks and domain name seizures don’t work. The decentralized nature of Bitcoin permits the creation of bets that live on the distributed blockchain, without potential single point failures related to a central domain or server (more on that later).

Following his keynote address at Global Gaming Expo 2014 (G2E) Steve Wynn’s current position on iGaming could best be termed as unpromising for iGaming advocates, as he continues to move closer and closer to Sheldon Adelson’s stance on iGaming, and further away from the position of quasi neutrality he seemingly adopted earlier this year.
Wynn spoke to packed house at G2E, closing out the day’s seminars and panel discussions on Tuesday. It should be noted, Wynn didn’t bring up iGaming during his prepared remarks, instead his response came during the end of the keynote address when he fielded submitted questions from the audience (one of four Wynn answered) that forced the casino magnate offer up his thoughts on online poker legislation.
Specifically, Wynn was asked for his thoughts on iGaming, and after a brief pause he simply stated “not much,” before pausing and answer the question more fully.
Wynn’s first reason for opposing iGaming legalization (which is not the same as supporting a ban) is the same reasoning he gave in February, saying he failed to see the business opportunity from online gambling. Wynn’s general position is the government will (over) tax the industry and the businesses won’t be able to make money.
Unfortunately, his opposition didn’t stop there, Wynn also reached into the Adelson playbook and conjured up an image of a kid and their parent’s credit card and several other improbable scenarios. He also speculated what would happen if something did go wrong (a hacking for instance) saying he was fearful that regulators would use it as an opportunity to enact new, stricter regualtions. While it’s easy to writeoff the scaremongering scenarios of children and other signs of the apocalypse, this second line of thought is one that may need further examination.
The most troubling aspect of Wynn’s remarks is it seems he is moving further and further into the Adelson camp; no longer content with opposing legalization, but pushing for a ban. Adelson and Wynn together would be an even more difficult foe to fight.
Wynn stated as much, saying he was closer to Sheldon’s point of view on this issue, and it’s hard to argue otherwise as he appears to no longer be solely looking at the issue economically. In fact, Wynn praised Adelson several times during his speech, although he was delivering the speech in Adelson’s house, at the Sands Expo Center.
Hopefully the ultrasuccesful business man will regret his parting statement, “I will take a pass on the Internet,” in the coming years.

Jim Morris, president of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, will move into the role of vice chairman and Rick Fuson will succeed Morris as president in addition to continuing his role as chief operating officer, PS&E Chairman and CEO Herb Simon announced Tuesday.
Both moves are effective immediately.
"This is not about change but continuity," Simon said. "Jim Morris will maintain his important leadership role in fostering and sustaining relationships in the community and throughout the state of Indiana. Rick Fuson over many years has shown himself to be a brilliant manager and trusted steward of PS&E and all its assets and will continue to do so."
Fuson, 61, joined the Pacers' organization in 1984 as director of special events for Market Square Arena. He oversaw the construction and opening of Bankers Life Fieldhouse in 1999. He was promoted to executive senior vice president of PS&E in 2001 and chief operating officer in 2008. He is responsible for the operation of all aspects of the business and facilities elements of PS&E and Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Morris, 71, a long-time community and civic leader and one of the principle architects of Indianapolis' highly acclaimed strategy of using sports to foster economic development, joined PS&E in 2007 as a special consultant to then President/CEO Donnie Walsh. He was named president in 2008.
"I am honored and humbled by this tremendous opportunity," said Fuson. "We are extremely fortunate to have Jim Morris in the role of vice chairman. He is an exemplary representative of PS&E and a pillar of our community. I am grateful to have worked side by side with Jim, Donnie Walsh, Larry Bird, Kelly Krauskopf and the great people of PS&E for over 30 years and I so look forward to our future. There is no better owner in sports than Herb Simon and his commitment to our franchises and community makes this a great place to work and live."

"It is an absolute thrill to work for an extraordinary owner in Herb Simon, and with such gifted people as Rick Fuson, Larry Bird and Kelly Krauskopf. PS&E is in terrific hands."

The rise of the free and open Internet since the early 1990s has led the gambling industry to expand its reach further into new markets. Despite strict and heavy regulatory policies, online gambling firms have managed to comply with a seemingly endless barrage of tighter gambling laws. Likewise, new payment systems have emerged that provide easier ways to lure people into making more bets. One such scheme is the introduction of Bitcoin, which is an open-source system using peer-to-peer technology for online payments. This type of payment system has the ability to bypass certain restrictions in online gambling all over the world, making it a potentially profitable betting tool for online casinos and gamblers.

The advantages of using Bitcoin involve its steadily growing status as a cost-efficient form of cryptocurrency. The main benefit focuses on the cost of making a Bitcoin transaction. Since it is relatively cheap to make a single transaction, more operators are exploring the idea of using them. Bitcoin’s affordable transaction prices contribute to the existence of a viable business model that offers low commissions. Although Bitcoin gambling represents a small fraction of the revenues from online gambling, the industry is pushing to make it more mainstream due to its cost-efficiency.
In 2012, the global market for online gambling recorded €21.73 billion in gross winnings, according to research firm H2 Gambling Capital. By 2015, a 9.13% compound annual growth rate is expected to occur, the company said. This projection is supported by the growing number of demands from consumers to launch new types of gambling platforms such as Bitcoin casinos. SoftSwiss CEO Ivan Montik is one of those that has felt the increase in demand. Montik’s company specialises in online casino software and bitcoin gambling solutions. “We’ve got about 400 requests for the launch of a bitcoin casino in the last six months,” he added. “We constantly have three to five casinos in the set-up phase, and could have had more if we had more resources.”
Other groups such as online sports betting site BitcoinSportsbooks-com have already expressed their confidence in the arrival of Bitcoin as an innovation in online gambling. “The smart money is on a Bitcoin gambling revolution,” according to the website. “It’s time for gamblers to cash in their chips and start mining their Bitcoins because cryptocurrency is about to make conventional money a spent force in gambling.”
Bitcoin may be receiving a lot of hype, but several challenges still face the peer-to-peer technology. As mentioned earlier, regulation will play a key role in the advancement of cryptocurrency. In the U.S., players are forbidden by the law to use bank-processed payments for their online bets. Some gambling entrepreneurs, however, have managed to establish cryptocurrency-based gambling sites such as the Seals with Clubs.
“It would be trivial to circumvent some ban. Seals is open to the world. There’s no banking
at all done on the site. It’s a pure bitcoin poker site, so this is a totally brand new thing,” said Bryan Micon, the website’s manager. ”It’s only been a few years for the legal world and there’s nothing at all that says anything about this protocol.”

Ewen Gilmour has been remembered as a comedic legend and "one of the nicest guys on the planet" by the entertainment industry.
Gilmour died overnight at his Port Waikato home. He was 51.
Fellow comedian and friend Urzila Carlson said she was in shock to hear of his death.
The pair have the same manager, Hilary Coe, who told APNZ today that Gilmour's death was sudden and he had not been unwell.
"He was just a really, really great guy and this is absolutely devastating," Ms Carlson said.
"[He] will leave a massive hole, I don't know if anyone could fill it.
"Everybody knew him or knew of him, even if they didn't know his name they knew 'that Westie one'," she said.
The pair met a comedy gig in 2008, she said.
"He just came up to me, gave me a massive hug, because he's the world's best hugger, and he said 'Hey, I'm Ewen,' and we were friends from then on."
Ms Carlson said Gilmour was a keen ten-pin bowler outside of work.
"He'd bowl every Tuesday ... him and I were going to get our manager to sponsor us in a bowling league. He even had his own bowling ball made for him," Ms Carlson said.
Comedian Jeremy Elwood was in California and shocked to hear about Gilmour's death.
"That is incredibly sad news," he told the Herald.
"All I can say is that Ewen was the most consistent and one of the best comedy acts and the most professional act that I worked with. And, he was a good friend."

Growth in Britain’s online gambling industry is expected to remain robust, with turnover set to break £3bn in the next two years despite the Government’s point of consumption tax (PoC).
A new report by GamblingCompliance Research Services (GCRS) estimates that the net gaming revenue (NGR) of Europe’s largest online market rose by 12.2 percent to £2.31bn last year. From December 1st, operators will be subject to a 15 percent tax hike on all bets placed online in the UK, in a move which is expected to raise around £400m for the Treasury in its first full year.
Yet GCRS estimates that online gambling revenues will climb 11.4 percent to £2.58bn in 2014, before rising by a further 10 percent to £2.83bn in 2015 and 13.6 percent to £3.22bn in 2016.
Daniel Stone, head of data content at Gambling Compliance, said: “Britain’s online gambling market has enjoyed an uninterrupted run of double-digit annual growth since the turn of the century – and this looks likely to continue into the first two years of the PoC regime.
“But the market share analysis contained in the report shows just how crowded the online space is in the UK. With companies forced to reassess their business models in light of the imminent tax hit, the fight for new customers and share of wallet has never been more intense.”
The report, released this week, reveals that William Hill retained its status as Britain’s leading online operator in 2013, capturing 14.5 percent of the total market. The company’s number one status is under increasing threat from bet365 however, after the Stoke-based firm boosted its overall share by 2.4 percent to 13.7 percent last year.
Global online market leader bet365 is estimated to have extended its lead at the top of the UK sports betting market too, capturing a quarter of player spend in a vertical which hit £1bn in NGR terms in 2013.
William Hill is second in the sports betting rankings having overtaken Betfair. Yet the most recent data suggests that the betting exchange pioneer is now fighting back, having enjoyed a stellar World Cup on the back of growth in its mass market-orientated sportsbook.
In other sectors, the continued decline in the popularity of online poker and slower gains in bingo-led gaming mean that UK gaming growth is set to be sustained by the online casino segment. UK-derived online casino NGR is forecast to rise at 13-15 percent year-on-year from £621m in 2013 to £927m in 2016.
JackpotJoy operator Gamesys, with an estimated 13 percent share, was top of the UK online gaming segment in 2013, after pushing William Hill (11.9 percent) back into second place.
Yet Gala Coral also earns a share of the plaudits after its share of UK gaming grew to roughly 8 percent in the first half of 2014 from an estimated 5 percent in 2012.

A High Court in the UK has dismissed a legal challenge from bookmakers to bring the licensing and taxation of online gambling companies under UK control if they offer their services to consumers in Britain, Reuters reports. Gambling companies with large UK customer bases such as Ladbrokes and William Hill have placed their operations offshore to benefit from lower taxes. A new tax regime is due to come into force on 1 December to force such companies to obtain a licence from the UK Gambling Commission and to pay a 15 percent tax online winnings from bets made by UK consumers. The case was brought by the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA), arguing that it contravened European legislation on free movement of services. The GBGA declined to say if it would appeal.

LINCOLN 'Style' Scott, an original member of the influential Roots Radics Band, was killed at his Manchester home last Thursday evening.
The Corporate Communication Unit reports that the 58-year-old Scott was found dead by police at his home in Williamsfield district just after 10:00 pm.
The police were told that explosions were heard from Scott's home at about 10:10 pm.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Born in Chapelton, Clarendon, Scott was a member of the Jamaica Military Band who also played the north coast hotel circuit before joining the 'Radics'.
In 1979, the fledgling band also included bass player Errol 'Flabba' Holt, rhythm guitarist Eric 'Bingy Bunny' Lamont, lead guitarist Noel 'Sowell' Bailey, and keyboardist Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson.
They were, arguably, the hottest reggae band of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, playing on numerous hit songs by Barrington Levy Looking my Love, Bunny Wailer Rock 'N' Groove and Gregory Isaacs Night Nurse.
Along with the Radics, Scott recorded and toured with Isaacs, Wailer and roots group Israel Vibration. He is the fourth member of the band to die; Lamont, Johnson and Bailey preceded him.
In recent years, Scott toured Europe frequently as leader of the Dub Syndicate Band, which he coordinated with British reggae historian/producer Adrian Sherwood.

Competition for the poker player’s attention is rampant on the internet with a massive number of poker rooms available at any time. While restrictions have been applied in some jurisdictions many players simply seek a place to play on the net where they feel comfortable and secure which doesn’t necessarily mean they are playing on a licensed site.
Spain is an example with this type of problem. A recent report released by Spain's CODERE Foundation and the Institute of Policy and Governance of the Charles III University, revealed that almost fifty percent half of online poker players in Spain play on illegal sites. The report explained, "Forty-three percent of online players admitted doing so on websites that are not regulated by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling," continuing, "Approximately 12.8 percent of them declared to never use a dot-es website for their games. Which means that they play exclusively on illegal sites."
The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) website, has stated that it will be granting a number of new casino licenses in efforts to help the lagging online gambling sector. Many operators have been waiting for the opportunity to expand.
Gambling specialist Albert Agustinoy Guilayn commented on the poker market and its lack luster performance, "Spain’s market is small and it is dubious that poker is going to expand due to several issues," adding, "I think any possible expansion of the market will be taking place due to the introduction of slots and more competitive products," explaining further he said, "One way would be to start thinking about more comprehensive offers that include more than a single product," he went on. The latest figures released by the DGOJ concerning the second quarter of 2014, Gross Gaming Revenues fell by 6 percent compared to the same quarter of 2013, while the total number of online poker players fell by 5 percent. Evidence enough the online gambling industry needs a change in Spain.

Swedish online gambling laws will face the scrutiny of the European Court of Justice (ECJ), after European Commission (EC) stated that Sweden did not comply with European business practices and legislation.
At present state owned gambling operator Svenska Spel, has exclusive rights to offer online gambling services in Sweden. The EC stated that Sweden had breached European business regulation concerning restrictive monopoly and the free movement of goods and services within the European Union.
The EC stated that the Swedish government and gambling authorities should look to clarify their position with regards to regulating an online gambling industry.
Sweden’s Minister of Public Administration Ardalan Shekarabi responded to the EC claims last Friday by stating that the government intended to speed its implementation of an online gambling framework and new licensing system.
The European Commission’s move was lauded as a “breakthrough decision” by the European Gaming & Betting Association, which represents leading privately-owned online betting and gaming operators.
“This is a breakthrough that shows a strong commitment to upholding fundamental European freedoms,” Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, said in a statement
The EC had stated in November 2013 that it would look to investigate online gambling licensing procedures in Belgium, Poland, Romania and Czech Republic in order for national frameworks to meet European business market and regulatory conditions.

There is no doubt that online gambling is here to stay and it’s growing at incredible rates. Over the last decade the online gambling industry revenues have increased from just over 7 billion USD to an estimated 37 billion USD in 2013. Global sports bets won and lost alone has gone from almost 24 billion USD in 2004 to over 74 billion USD in 2012.
It has been regulated and continues to be administered by various agencies around the world. The U.K. Gambling Commission was one of the first was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 to regulate commercial gambling in Great Britain. On 1 October 2013 they also took over the responsibilities of the National Lottery Commission to regulate the National Lottery under the National Lottery etc. Act 1993. The entity is an independent non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Just over two hundred individuals work for the Commission. Their work is funded by fees set by DCMS and paid by the organisations and individuals the body licenses and, in regard to National Lottery functions, grant funds are allocated by the National Lottery Distribution Fund.
The regulations are transparent, accountable, proportionate, and consistent. Usinga risk-based approach, they focus their resources on those issues and operators that potentially present the greatest risk to the licensing objectives. All commercial gambling operators which hold a licence under the Gambling Act must comply with that legislation and, Licence conditions and codes of practice (LCCP). The National Lottery operator has a separate licence, the Commission makes sure that the operator delivers as much money as possible for good causes.
The combating of illegal gambling activities and betting related corruption in sports is also high on the Commission’s priority list. The U.K. Gambling Commission will soon add different criteria to its regulatory platform requiring all online gambling operators to hold a U.K. license in order to offer their services in the punters in the United Kingdom.

Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger appeared on a red carpet with her new boyfriend on Monday night. But it wasn’t her rare public appearance that set tongues wagging. Instead fans were wondering: “What happened to her face?”
The 45-year-old ‘Bridget Jones’ star was nearly unrecognizable as she posed for photos alongside her boyfriend Doyle Bramhall II at the Elle 21st Women in Hollywood Awards.
While many Hollywood stars often emerge looking younger thanks to facelifts, Botox or fillers, Zellweger looked like a completely different person. Some surmised her look had a passing resemblance to Cameron Diaz while others said she looked more like Robin Wright Penn than the actress that fans grew to love for packing on the pounds to portray Helen Fielding’s iconic Bridget Jones character.
Writer Viv Groskop tweeted: “This is not Botox or even surgery it's a MISSING PERSON ENQUIRY.”
Zellweger’s appearance at the 2013 Oscars set Twitter abuzz with speculation she’d had Botox. But she has never admitted to having work done.

Around the world online gambling has grown and has made inroads into areas where by law it is not permitted. The areas where it is legal, licensed and taxed have created a safe and reliable environment for adults to play for real money. The efforts of governments and organizations to protect the vulnerable and youth from problems associated with gambling have been somewhat effective in combating the issues. In other areas there is some risk for the consumer of gambling services especially where it is prohibited making players vulnerable to prison and fines.
White markets are jurisdictions where remote gambling is legal, authorized and accepted without concern or without any restrictions. Black markets are areas where online gambling is absolutely illegal under all circumstances. Grey markets are in parts of the world that online betting is almost legal or just accepted. Real totally legal markets are small and it is almost impossible to find a jurisdiction that welcomes or openly encourages offshore internet gambling without some conditions.
China is a good example of the black market situation where China recently imprisoned four citizens for playing at online gambling site Bet365 and two citizens for promoting Bet365 in an internet blog. The “play at your own risk" warning is often just ignored by players who think they will never be observed.
Most jurisdiction fall into the grey zone such as Canada, France and Germany. In Canada and France for example only the horse racing industry and the provincial governments are authorized to operate gambling services however there is no mechanism or desire for governments to go against individual bettors who want to place bets at offshore web domains and there is no motivation to prosecute foreign operators.
Many other areas require operators to be licensed and pay attention to the locale of bettors. These taxation systems have been a major stumbling block for those who offer their services within the European Union with some claiming these regulations contravene the E.U. mandate for free trade.
