The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was put in place during a lame-duck session back in late 2006. Republicans, at the time, attached the UIGEA to a must-past port security bill. That attachment forced lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to vote in favor of the UIGEA.
Many Democrats have since looked deeper into the ill-advised law and have decided that it needs to be overturned. Representative Barney Frank is leading the charge to overturn the UIGEA, but Frank and his Financial Services Committee have been busy over the past two years dealing with the economic collapse in the US.
Now is the time for Frank to use the economic collapse to finally protect the millions of online poker players that exist in the US. Rep. Frank could attach his online gambling legislation, which has already been approved in committee, to a jobs creation bill.
If Conservatives were to vote against the jobs bill, they would take a publicity hit, something they are desperately trying to avoid now that they have some momentum with the general public. With a lot of legislation up for discussion in this last month, it is important to let these legislators know that online gambling prohibition is a major concern of US citizens.
Representative Frank has been mum on whether or not he is considering passing his online gambling legislation during the lame-duck session, and that may be a good thing. Frank does not want to tip his hand to opponents of the bill.
The people that cannot be mum right now, however, are the online gamblers themselves. With at least two years of Conservative leadership ahead in the House, now may be the last time to have your voices heard. Online gambling prohibition must come to an end in the US, as it has in other countries, and the way for that to happen is for those who do not want to be told how to run their lives, to speak up.
Now is the time to contact local representatives and ensure that Rep. Frank's Internet gambling bill is part of lawmakers' discussions over the next month. It is either that, or continue to play online poker at sites that are dangerous and unregulated for the foreseeable future.

Cheap shots there Ramsay, but in reality he is a respected chef whose restaurants have won Michelin stars which is a high accolade for any chef. His most recent plans include investing in a new restaurant in Montreal, Canada where he will start his new venture despite his $27 million debts.
Oliver, who is otherwise known as the ‘Naked Chef’ may not be in the same league as Ramsay but he’s definitely earned worldwide acclaim for helping the U.K. and the U.S. make quick and easy meals using fresh ingredients. With television shows, book deals and a product line, Oliver doesn’t seem too worried about Ramsay’s comments including him saying that Oliver is a ‘one-pot-wonder.’
The two chefs have now reached the height of popularity after being featured on the latest episode of Southpark where Oliver is mocked and is shown sobbing on the floor saying that he just wants to make everyone ‘healfy’. Ramsay on the other hand is mocked after Cartman decides to host “Hell’s Kitchen Nightmares Iron Top Chef Cafeteria Throwdown Ultimate Cookoff Challenge.”
Oliver who was also in Toronto told the Daily Mail that he’s not popular with many celebrity television chefs. “Marco Pierre White hates me and Gordon Ramsay does not like me. Gordon Ramsay constantly slags me off on the TV,” he says. It seems to be something he’s used to and is not particularly bothered by.

lawmakers called a time-out that lasted long enough Monday to advance a number of bills
designed to help the struggling casinos and racetracks.
But the long-fought territorial dispute flared up again when state Sen. Sean T. Kean, R-Monmouth, from the Senate floor said it didn't make sense that the day's agenda did not include adding casino gambling to the Meadowlands Racetrack.
That's when a short but heated exchange between Kean and Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney, D-Gloucester, erupted.
Kean, who is from a county that is home to two of the state's four racetracks, said he supported an effort to create faster off-track wagering site start-ups and other measures, but added, "I think we're missing the mark." "There's several bills on today's board list which I will be supporting that are intended to better horse racing or improve Atlantic City," said Kean, who then added that the tweaks were inefficient compared to turning the Meadowlands into a racino.
A racino, Kean said, "if it were put to a vote we'd probably get a majority if not a super-majority (in support) to save horse racing in the state of New Jersey."
Sweeney and other South Jersey lawmakers have staunchly opposed expanding gambling outside Atlantic City.
Sweeney cut off Kean. "That's not on the bill," Sweeney said.
"And that's part of the problem," said Kean, getting in the last words.
All of the gaming measures considered in the Senate and the Assembly were passed, including allowing for smaller casinos in Atlantic City and permitting Internet betting on casino games.
A portion of the proceeds from the latter venture are earmarked for horse racing purses.
A bill to have voters to decide on a constitutional amendment allowing sports wagering in
New Jersey advanced through a Senate committee. It would allow the Legislature to enact laws allowing sports betting at Atlantic City's casinos and current and former race tracks.
A federal ban against sports betting is in force for New Jersey but that is being challenged.
"I have filed a lawsuit in federal district court to overturn the ban on sports betting which gives an unfair and unconstitutional advantage to Nevada and Delaware at the expense of New Jersey and other states," said the sponsor of the bill, Sen. Raymond J. Lesniak, D-Union.
Two bills deregulating the Atlantic City casinos and creating a tourism district for the city were amended in the Senate and will be scheduled for future votes.
One change eliminates a planned tax break for the casinos that would have washed away millions that have been going toward programs for senior citizens, said Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic.

The recent merger between Bwin and Party Gaming has piqued the interest of investors. The massive $3.3 billion deal has created what will be one of the biggest online gambling operators in existence, and proves that the industry is a safe bet on the stock exchange.
Now, other companies in the industry are striving to strike up similar agreements. Bwin and Party Gaming are encouraging fierce competition and some operators have risen to the occasion. SportingBet and 888 are currently in the market for mergers.
Not only does the prospect of joining with another company guarantee a larger market share for online gambling operators; it also means that stock market investors could provide an additional source of funding.
With online casinos getting bigger and bigger, they become more attractive for investors, and this is the perfect time to invest. While stock prices are still low, it is wise to buy shares in online gambling companies that are on the verge of merging or expanding.

Lee Amaitis, Chief Executive Officer of Cantor Gaming, spoke of the rise of mobile phones as a sign of a generation of people on the move. If the Vegas casino industry is to stay on top of the gambling world, they will need to embrace this fact.
Cantor Gaming’s Race and Sports Book at M Resort currently uses a mobile device called the eDeck to help patrons bet on sports and enjoy blackjack card games while on the go. The device only works inside the resort, but it’s a good start, and the technology has proven popular with customers.
Alex Kelly, vice president of interactive with International Game Technology, joined in on the panel discussion. Kelly and the others are well aware that US regulations surrounding gambling will have to change if mobile casinos are to become a part of the Las Vegas experience.
Amaitis believes that the legalization and regulation of mobile and online gambling in the US is inevitable. “We are working with regulators to show how we can make the (mobile) market safe and secure,” he said. “It’s going to happen because people want to do it.”

Dinesh Enoka Abeysuriya pleaded guilty this week to fraud in connection with the charity for which he worked. Abeysuriya was charged with stealing over one and a half million dollars from the charity to fuel his online gambling habit.
Internet sports betting was the gambling option of choice for Abeysuriya, according to officials. The finance clerk would double bill some vendors, and inflate the price on others. The money that was left over after the original bills were paid to United Care Queensland, trading as Blue Care.
Twenty-six transactions in all were found to be fraudulent. Of the stolen funds, around $600,000 has been recovered. The other roughly $900,000 was not recovered. The guilty man ran his fraud scheme from March of 2009 to April of 2010. Once he was found out, the man attempted to flee to his hometown in Sri Lanka, but he was caught and went back to Australia to surrender.
Gambling has been at the forefront of several disturbing fraud cases in recent months. The most appalling of the cases involved a woman who claimed to have brain cancer. The woman convinced family members that she needed money to pay for her treatment, but then took the over $300,000 and gambled it at a casino, according to a close former friend.
Gambling opponents often point to the possibility of gambling addiction as a reason to slow gaming expansion. In most cases, however, the fraud takes place in areas where not a lot of help is offered to those with a gambling problem. Australian lawmakers, led by Nick Xenophon, are attempting to change the current structure of gambling in the country.

So yeah, it’s business as usual in Vegas and while the holiday season may slow things down a bit, wouldn’t it be a great idea to pack up the folks and head over to Vegas for a few days? Hmmmm.

The bill was voted 29-5 by the Senate, with an amendment including a 15% tax on gross gaming revenue for the state.
The bill authorized the internet offering of “poker, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, craps, big six wheel, slot machines, mini baccarat, red dog, pai gow, and sic bo, any variations or composites of such games, provided that such variations or composites, and any above listed game or variation or composite of such game to be offered through internet wagering.”
Another bill approved by the Senate will see smaller casinos opening up in Atlantic City, with as little as 200 rooms. The current minimum is 500 rooms. The Seminole tribe of Florida said that it would jump at the opportunity of building a small 200 room casino complex on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, with the option of expanding it to 500 rooms within 5 years.
After passing through Senate, the bills are now to be decided on by Governor Chris Christie. And while the governor’s spokesperson would not comment or speculate on the outcome of his decision, sources close to him say that “all indications are” that he would sign them into law.
Speaking in an interview last week, Lesniak said that “I don’t think he’s going to have any option but to sign it before the end of the year.”
“We have to put forward regulations, so that will take some time, but we’re very well versed in regulating gambling, so we’re in good shape to get this rolling as soon as possible,” he added.

Hacienda La Capilla has produced a bottle of tequila that it is expected to fetch £2.2 million at auction, making it the most expensive drink of its kind in the world.
The Mexican distiller’s 1.3 litre bottle is coated in a layer of platinum and studded with more than 4,000 diamonds.
Hacienda La Capilla already holds the Guinness world record for most expensive bottle of tequila, but their previous offering fetched a mere £142,000, a fraction of what the latest bottle is expected to go for.
The bottle will now be going on tour in Europe and the Middle East in the hope of attracting potential buyers.
Alcohol connoisseurs should bare in mind that for less money they could probably buy the world’s largest bottle of wine, which holds over 1,850 litres.
A tequila bottle called "The Diamond Sterling" is seen during an interview with Reuters television in Mexico City November 22, 2010. The bottle, made with 4,100 brilliant-cut diamonds and 2.380 kg of pure platinum, is valued at around $3.5 million, according to its designer Fernando Altamirano. New Jersey took yet another step closer to becoming the first US state to introduce legal online gambling, after Senator Ray Lesniak’s bill was approved by the Senate. The bill will allow New Jersey residents and foreigners to place bets online through “sophisticated software” on servers located in Atlantic City casinos. Players from other states will not be allowed to.

Around 4,000 TAB employees nationwide in customer-facing roles already receive training on identifying and supporting problem gamblers to seek help. Under the new partnership with PGF, all TAB employees will receive awareness training before they begin and existing employees will receive regular ‘refresher' training so they are armed with the latest techniques for helping problem gamblers.
"The TAB has a responsibility to ensure customers have fun using our services. We have a successful track record of monitoring customer behaviour and intervening where we identify customers who may be putting themselves at risk", says Andrew Brown, CEO of the NZ Racing Board.
"Our existing programmes to promote responsible gambling work very well, but we are constantly looking at ways to do things better. The partnership with PGF will help us extend and strengthen our programmes, and exceed our statutory obligations as a gambling provider," he says.
Graeme Ramsey, Problem Gambling Foundation Chief Executive, says:
"We have developed a new host responsibility system which raises the bar on problem gambling awareness and support training and sets a new international best practice standard. The training will be partly web-based and will build upon our years of experience across New Zealand.
"The NZ Racing Board is taking host responsibility seriously and these new training arrangements for TAB staff will greatly improve their ability to identify and support problem gamblers right at the shop front."
Since 2002, all TAB employees have been required to attend half day classroom-based training and workshops to equip themselves with the skills and confidence to approach customers who they believe may have difficulties with gambling. They are also trained in referring these customers to a problem gambling support provider.
Under the Racing and Gambling Acts, the NZ Racing Board has a statutory responsibility to take proactive measures to minimise the harm caused by problem gambling. These include: reporting on programmes for minimising problem gambling; providing information and advice on problem gambling; and, providing problem gambling training to all staff who sell betting products to customers.
The NZ Racing Board has taken a number of measures to ensure compliance with regulation and to ensure that the TAB exceeds the required standard in providing support for people with gambling difficulties. In addition to staff training, these include regular monitoring of TAB account activity and managing the ‘Set Your Limits' programme which allows betting limits to be placed on customers' TAB accounts.

The stars of the new E! reality series, The Spin Crowd, are longtime friends of Kim Kardashian who produces the show, and are known to Hollywood as top executives of Command PR – who do their best to make just about any celebrity request a reality. Their current reality series follows the two execs as they perform their daily duties while at the same time trying to shape their out of sorts crew members into grade a material.
The restaurant these two are planning to open will be somewhat of a Hard Rock Café inspired theme but will include Reality TV memorabilia and a special menu inspired by your favorite reality stars. I’m trying to think of memorabilia I’d like to see and while I can’t really think of anything I’d like to see at the moment, there are tons of props online for props from Survivor and Big Brother up for auction.
US Magazine released the following quote from Cheban who is excited about his new venture, "The restaurant will serve up dishes inspired by everyone's favorite reality celebrities with a side of TV memorabilia. Already on the menu: Real Housewives of New Jersey Caroline Manzo's meatballs.”

The pregnancy came almost two years after the death of their son Jett died from a seizure while vacationing in the Bahamas and while the couple couldn’t possibly forget the incident, the new addition will hopefully help in the healing process.
According to US Magazine, Kelly’s mom, Linda Carlson, “I cried so hard I couldn’t see straight, just bawled my eyes out,” when she heard the news of the pregnancy. Because I’ve been so worried about her!” she said.
Well the good news is definitely welcomed by the Travolta’s who’ve had to deal with so much within the last year including an extortion case involving their son's ambulance driver who threatened to release personal details of the incident as well as the death of their two dogs in a freak airport mishap.
At the moment, the only news they are concerned with is little Benjamin who will now be looked after by Bella Blue, the Travolta’s 10-year-old daughter and the proud parents of course.
The Travolta’s have been preparing for the grand event by ‘cleaning out everything in the house,” said Preston back in September to People Magazine. “Ella has been helping too. She’s looking forward to being a big sister.”
Congratulations to the Travolta’s on the birth of their new son Bejamin.

"If nothing happens in the next 14 days, then nothing will happen in the next two years," said Filament Strategies President Lloyd Levine.
"You'll have better odds at the slot machine than with the new Congress," said Levine, who attempted to pass legislation regulating online poker in 2008 when he was a state legislator in California.
The consensus among the online gambling experts assembled was that federal legislation to regulate online gambling would only pass if Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) attached the legislation to an unrelated must-pass bill -- the same way the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was attached the Port Security bill in 2006.
"It's up to Reid now," said Jerome Encinas, director of government affairs for the California Nations Indian Gaming Association. "But his camp is being very close-mouthed right now."
John Pappas, executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, agreed that Reid was the key.
"I think Harry Reid is very critical," Pappas added. "He holds the cards, and unfortunately right now, he's holding the cards to real close to his vest...He's the central figure in all of this."
"The PPA has always believed there would be an opportunity in 2010 to get legislation done," Pappas said. "We believe that the re-election of people like Senator Harry Reid, who would be very influential in (the process of) making that happen, was a positive development. And we hope to see some progress made over next several weeks, between now and when they break around Christmas time."
"There is little chance anything happens between now and Thanksgiving," Pappas added. "But they're going to be back after Thanksgiving. And there are some major tax bills Congress has to consider. And the revenue prospects created by regulated Internet gaming can be an attractive 'pay for' for those bills."
"Every star has to align," said Pappas, when asked how legislation might move through Congress. "Senator Reid, and many of the Nevada gaming interests as well as all the other stake holders need to come to consensus on what a bill is that everyone can support. Then I think there needs to be a vehicle in which you can attach a bill to. There is very little prospect of this legislation going as a standalone bill."
If federal legislation isn't passed, it's likely that the states will be the first to regulate online gambling in the U.S., and that could pose problems for operators.
"The complexity (of regulations) increases exponentially if it's state by state," said Harrah's Senior Vice President Jan Jones.
But it looks like state-by-state regulation is where the online gambling industry in the U.S. is headed. The New Jersey Senate passed legislation Monday authorizing Atlantic City casinos to offer Internet gambling to New Jersey residents and people outside of the United States by a 29-5 vote. The legislation still needs the approval of the State Assembly and the governor.

Harrah's and Foxwoods have until December 10th to finalize a financial proposal for a casino project in the state. If they fail to meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, they risk losing the right to the casino license, something neither company wants to happen.
A group of supporters of the SS United States believes that the cruiser would be the perfect main attraction for the casino complex. Harrah's and Foxwoods have not exactly warmed to the idea, and they are moving forward with their original plan, but that could change in the coming weeks.
Harrah's officials did not comment directly on the possible use of the SS United States, but did say they were working hard to finalize their plan that they will bring before the Gaming Board. If completed, the casino complex is expected to bring thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue to the state.
Pennsylvania has been among the most aggressive states when it comes to casino expansion. In the past couple of years, several casinos have been opened, and this year lawmakers legalized table games for state casinos. The table games have had a major impact on gambling in the Northeast.
On Monday, fearing that Pennsylvania was stealing too many of Atlantic City casinos' customers, senators in New Jersey authorized online gambling. The Internet gaming would give New Jersey a leg up in the gaming industry. New Jersey lawmakers are also considering legalized sports betting.

The bill was amended to allow residents of other countries to wager on the Atlantic City sites. People living in other U.S. states would not be allowed to play on the sites.
The amended bill also includes a 15 percent tax on gross gaming revenue.
If the New Jersey State Assembly passes the bill, and it is signed into law by Governor Chris Christie, New Jersey would become the first state in the U.S. to offer licensed intra-state online gambling.
The bill, authored by Sen. Raymond Lesniak, authorizes the online offering of "poker, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, craps, big six wheel, slot machines, minibaccarat (sic), red dog, pai gow, and sic bo; any variations or composites of such games, provided that such variations or composites, and any above listed game or variation or composite of such game to be offered through Internet wagering."
The bill also specifies that Internet gambling operators have to be licensed Atlantic City casino operators, and that all equipment used to conduct Internet gaming be located either in Atlantic City casinos or a "secure" location in Atlantic City.
In an interview at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) last week, Sen. Lesniak told the APCW he expects the governor will sign his bill into law before the end of the year.
"It's going to be presented to the governor and I don't think he's going to have any option but to sign it before the end of the year," Lesniak said.
"We have to put forward regulations...so that will take some time, but we're very well versed in regulating gambling... so we're in good shape to get this rolling as soon as possible."
Lesniak said he also understands he's raising international trade issues by allowing people outside the U.S. to gamble online in New Jersey.
"We are going to be raising World Trade Organization issues by taking international gaming in New Jersey and showing how juvenile our federal government's policy is with regards to gaming," Lesniak said. "It makes no sense, we're trying to isolate and segregate something people want to do, they do everywhere, and we create a mass of restrictions that's unconstitutional and quite frankly just dumb in terms of governmental policy."

Media Corp. owns the domain name and they have received several inquiries into the domain in recent months from online gambling companies. The sale of the domain will now be done by auction, and the final price could be upwards of $10 million.
The biggest online gaming companies in the world will compete for the rights to the name. A domain name such as gambling.com could alone drive millions of customers to online gambling. The winner of the bidding process will understand how important the domain could be as the Internet gambling industry continues to grow.
Sedo Holding AG has been handed the contract to sell the domain. They could have opted to take bids, but instead the company believes that an auction would be the best way to gain top dollar for the domain. Recently, Sedo sold a domain with similar appeal for $13 million.
"We are very pleased to have been chosen as the exclusive broker for the sale of Gambling.com," said Tim Schumacher, CEO of Sedo Holding AG. "A defining domain name like this can enable a brand to own their vertical and would be a fantastic addition to any gaming or gambling business. Gambling.com is a safe bet, it has traffic, branding, and instant memorability."
Justin Drummond, CEO of Media Corp. believes that with the money that is gained from selling the Gambling.com domain, the company will be free to pursue other ventures within the online gaming industry. Drummond also claims the sale is not the result of the company being strapped for cash.
A source of the Daily Mail claims that she has already given her notice and is prepared to move on from the longstanding successful show that has recharged her career. Could this possibly be a plea for a raise or higher ratings? The word is that the show’s ratings have been the lowest yet which could explain the upheaval including rumors that her co-star Felicity Huffman could also be leaving the show. As far as a raise, she earns a whopping $400,000 per episode along with her fellow cast mates which is no reason to complain really…
It’s doubtful that the show could survive after the mass exodus of original cast members but it seems that Teri has made up her mind and is eyeing the idea of starting her own sitcom starting in January. Apparently, she was inspired by her colleague Courtney Cox who was able to move on to Cougar Town after her show Friends came to an end.
Her contract expires after next season so you can probably expect a wild exit to be written into the show unless they ramp up her salary and she decides to stay, but it seems that this time around Teri wants to see if she has the chops to go out on her own and be part of another successful project. It just may be time to leave the wicked housewives of Wisteria Lane.
