Isnt there a way to set these up so members have to log in here to register to play before they go to the sites. Im sure it would be a hassle to set up but would stop non members. Not to mention, it takes like 5 mins to join so just how lazy are these people

I think that you are wrong saying this. Yes, depositing would be nice for the poker clients, but how many pro's started off from freerolls? im pretty sure the majority of professional tournament players started off in freerolls.
That said, i believe that a member of a forum, playing in a private forum freeroll is not just for the money, i think it is more for the fact of playing with people that you have spoken to before. It is a way of being able to gauge how good you are at learning someones play style and their tells. playing massive freerolls with complete strangers does not allow this because there are too many runners to remember and you have to note everything, which is just plain annoying. I enjoy forum freerolls because in them, you play against the majority of the same people every week (or however often they are held) and you build up a bit more of a competitive streak with those players. In another forum I am a member of, we even have competitions such as winning with a random hand, the person to win best with that hand gets a prize after.
Also in forum freerolls, you can put bounty's on certain people to make the competition stronger. With everyone trying to knock out that specific person, they are more likely to show their tells.

All in all, i believe that Forum freerolls specifically have alot more to offer than just the winnings and that people that share the passwords should be banned from playing poker forever. 😄

It seems to be a common problem across alot of forums. The only real thing seems to be that it will continue. We all appreciate playing for free $$$$ and there seem to be alot of suggestions on how to stop it. I don't know how to stop it as realistically people will find a way to get them. The only thing we can hope for is honest people. Very unrealistic but lets just enjoy and kick their butts. Good luck all.

If you require everyone to have a "ticket" before they can register that seems to work. Not sure how much it costs though to set up the ticket system.

Even if you wait until 5 minutes prior to the tourney, that doesn't stop the password thieves. They are set up so that hundreds of them can join in just that few minutes.

Coupon entry at Merge sites and restricted entry at Cereus sites are the only systems that exclude PW thieves.
