Troubled golfer Tiger Woods had a solid first day at the 2010 PGA Championship.
Apparently rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. Woods started the day with a birdie and ended it the same way, shooting one-under par 71 overall.
"I played too good not to shoot under par, and it would have been very disappointing and frustrating to end up at even par as well as I played today," a rejuvenated Woods told ESPN.com
Woods needed a solid start as he's not long removed from the ugliest performance of his career.
He shot 18 over par for four rounds just days ago at the Bridgestone Invitational, and he had won there seven times before.
After the ugly day Woods has turned out a promising performance at one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour.

Under a sweltering heat at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York, Roddick — which U.S. Open odds listed as a -600 favorite in the match — couldn't solve the serve of +375 underdog Janko Tipsarevic. Roddick was ousted after four sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6) and 16 aces by Tipsarevic, adding yet another early exit to his resume.
Recently Roddick had a fourth-round loss at Wimbledon and some poor results on the summer hard-court circuit, usually his best time of year. The ninth seeded pro recently revealed that he didn't come to New York 100 percent, but considering his only grand slam was at Flushing Meadows expectations were still high.

Video footage published by the tabloid shows the 31-year-old two-time world welterweight champ engaging in a marathon 10-hour bender including seven lines of coke over the course of three separate drug sessions, 11 pints of Guinness, four vodkas, two glasses of wine and several Sambucas. But hey, who's counting? Enter current Irish national senior women's boxing champ Emma Bowe, who attended a cage fighting event with Hatton in Manchester two weeks ago when the footage of Hatton was shot. Bowe claimed that Hatton showed up to her hotel room and she could tell something was up. And what do you know? Emma happened to be staying in a room equipped with hidden video cameras!
"Ricky told me he had something to do in the bathroom," Emma told News of the World. "That's when he went inside and snorted a line of cocaine off the toilet lid. I'd never seen him do that before, but it didn't surprise me because I'd met him nearly a year ago in Dublin and saw him accidentally produce a cocaine wrap when he was fiddling about trying to find his hotel key. My suspicions were confirmed.
"Anyway he left the bathroom door wide open and I saw everything while I was touching up my make-up. He used the hard end of a Clinique tube to cut the powder.
"I was dumbstruck and felt bitterly disappointed. Ricky was my hero and to see him abusing drugs was such a letdown. He was a real role model, I didn't expect that of him."
Emma said, "I'm doing this for Ricky's own good. I hope he gets help and advice before cocaine destroys him."
Hatton has not fought since being knocked out in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas in May 2009, but Hatton's boxing licence was renewed in July, sparking rumors of a comeback. He lives with his girlfriend Jennifer Dooley and has a son, Campbell, with an ex-girlfrien who he sees daily. Will Hatton overcome this scandal to make a comeback? Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton known better as Ricky "the Hitman" Hatton, has been caught by infamous U.K. tabloid News of the World snorting lines of cocaine, during, what they say was a "10-hour drinking and drugs binge."

This year's Lingerie Bowl will be aired from the Thomas & Mack Arena and will include teams from around the country. The history of the concept dates back to 2003 when Mitch Mortaza created a special pay per view halftime show, The Lingerie Bowl, which received so much praise and attention that actual leagues were created in 2009 to satisfy the need for lingerie tackle football. These girls compete nationwide and have managed to garner a special fan base and following.
Part of the reason the event will be held in Vegas is to introduce a new Las Vegas league and cheerleaders during the Lingerie Bowl which will include Angelica Bridges, an actress and former star of the Luxor’s sexy show, Fantasy among other athletic beauties.
While you may think that these girls just fiddle with the ball in their underwear for attention (well yeah), they play full contact football and are armed with shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads and even helmets. So how do these girls keep everything in place after so many tackles? It must be fabulous super grip underwear.
This year’s festivities include the Superbowl game to be held in February 2011 in Dallas, Texas as well as celebrity guests, a black-tie kickoff party, a celebrity golf tournament and a Fan Fest. If you’d like to join in the festivities then you can join a mob of fans at the Tailgate Village on Superbowl Sunday.

Attribute Woods’ place at the top of the odds list to name recognition, not performance. He just hasn’t played very well this year, and it’s hard to believe it’s suddenly going to change at the Ryder Cup. Admittedly, Woods has been better over his past three tournaments — but considering “better” consists of mediocre 12th, 11th and 15th-place finishes, it’s hard to get excited for the once-dominant golfer. Wait until next year on Tiger.
Steve Stricker follows up Woods with 11/2 odds to be the top USA points scorer at the Ryder Cup. Though he finished 25th at the Tour Championship this past weekend, Stricker has been very consistent over the past few months, finishing among the Top-10 in five of his past eight tournaments. A meltdown seems unlikely, meaning he’s a safe bet to finish near — or atop — the standings.
Phil Mickelson checks in with 13/2 odds. Lefty perhaps hasn’t been as dominant as in years past — he finished 22nd at the Tour Championship — but he has set the bar pretty high. Mickelson still has a pair of Top-5s in the majors this year, including a win at The Masters, and it quickly becomes clear Mickelson still has the chops to take care of business.
At 8/1, Jim Furyk rounds out the top four odds to be the top American points scorer at the Ryder Cup. Furyk didn’t play his best golf through most of August and September, but he turned it up a notch at precisely the right time; the veteran is coming off a victory at the Tour Championship and winning the FedEx Cup.

Welcome:
Here’s how it works: simply bet a minimum of $5 on a 10-team football parlay – you can choose the spread or total or a combination of both on NFL or college football games. If you hit the full parlay, you keep the winnings of whatever your bet would normally bring (and that’s going to be plenty) but also get to share the weekly $10,000 jackpot among any other winners. And if you are the only winner, then you keep it all! The news gets better, as last week no player was able to hit the 10 selections so we have upped the jackpot to $20,000 for college football’s Week 4 and the NFL’s Week 3.
So far we have had four winners this season – two in each of the NFL’s first two weeks, so they each got $5,000. We would like to congratulate Aaron G., Paul R., Kerilynn T. and Jimmy L.
The latter winner, Jimmy L., a fisherman, spoke with Bodog and said he owed his good fortune simply to “lady luck” and that he planned to buy a big-screen TV with his share of the $10,000. Ah, a big screen TV to watch more football. Good idea.
You can’t get in on this contest without getting a Bodog account, so what are you waiting for? Football season will be over before you know it, so don’t wait for your chance to possibly take home $20,000 just for being an expert on football. Think that might impress your friends?
At Bodog Sportsbook, we don’t want watchers, we want players. Bet the Parlay Jackpot today!
Not surprisingly, the Yankees lead the way at 4-to-1 while the reigning champs in San Francisco open at 10-to-1 (which is a big improvement from this season, when they opened at 25-to-1).

Phillies 6/1 Tigers 35/1
Giants 10/1 Marlins 35/1
Red Sox 10/1 Athletics 35/1

Rays 14/1 Blue Jays 50/1
Rangers 16/1 Astros 65/1

Woods, of course, offers name value and little else this season. Nonetheless, Woods is the favorite. He hasn’t finished higher than 11th since a fourth-place effort at the U.S. Open Championship — a span of seven tournaments. He’s at least been consistently “OK” over his past three starts, cracking the Top-15 each time. Woods was last seen at the BMW Championship in early September, when he placed 15th.
Phil Mickelson is right behind Woods with 10/1 golf betting odds. Like Woods, he hasn’t had his best game lately, especially over the past few months. “Lefty” placed eighth at the BMW Championship, but that was his only Top-10 effort in seven starts. Mickelson last played at the Tour Championship in late September, when he was just 22nd.
Martin Kaymer has 14/1 odds to win the HSBC Champions. The German may be the hottest golfer heading into this weekend’s action. He’s won three of his last four tournaments, including a victory at the PGA Championship in August. Kaymer followed that up with wins at the KLM Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. His last outing was a 21st-place finish at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters last weekend.
Lee Westwood, the world’s new No. 1 player, rounds out the top four contenders with 16/1 odds. He hasn’t played since withdrawing from the World Golf Championships in August, however. Before that, Westwood had picked up finishes of second, first, fourth, and second in his last six tournaments — including second-place finishes at the British Open and Masters.

European Tour betting odds get fired up this weekend with the HSBC Champions tournament. Tiger Woods sits atop the golf odds at 7/1.

Sportingbet is one of the largest online gambling companies in the world, and they have a specific rival, Unibet, based in Sweden. Reports have now surfaced that the two companies have begun discussions that could lead to a merger, although that is not expected to take place until 2011.
The laws in the US may have a lot to do with the jockeying for power that is going on in Europe. The European companies would love to be in a position to enter the US market if it is opened up to outside companies, and by merging, the new companies being formed will be in a strong position to gain licensing in the US.
A proposal has already been approved in the House Financial Services Committee earlier this year. The legislation, however, is not expected to be voted on by the full House before the end of the year. If the lawmakers do not vote on the bill, Representative Barney Frank would have to start the process over again next year.
The chances of legislation passing next year are slim with the Republican Party taking control of the House. Rep. Spencer Bacchus has been a long-time opponent of online gambling, and he likely will become a major voice in the Financial Services Committee moving forward, at least for the next two years.
Sportingbet has seen revenues jump in the past fiscal year by twenty-seven percent. That figure was aided, according to the company, by a large increase in betting in live sporting events. The 2010 World Cup was a driving force behind the sports betting this summer.
Sportingbet recently reached an agreement with the US stemming from bets they accepted from US citizens back from 1998 to 2006. That agreement not only helps Sportingbet avoid prosecution, but also eases the strained relationship with the US, which could result in licensing in the country in the future.
Some experts have said the beating that Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) laid on Margarito was the worst they had ever seen, and Margarito will have surgery on a fractured eye socket on Tuesday. It was Pacquiao’s eighth title in as many different weight classes and his 13th straight win. So now the Mayweather talk begins again despite the fact the two fighters have failed to agree on terms twice. Frankly, Mayweather is starting to be dogged by charges he is afraid to fight Pacquiao.
Promoter Bob Arum said that he would get right on his third attempt at making the fight as early as this week.
"I will have (Top Rank Promotions president) Todd Duboef place a call directly to Floyd. Todd will ask one question and one question only, and that is whether Floyd wants to fight Manny," Arum said of Mayweather, who is facing criminal charges over a dispute with the mother of two of his sons. "If Floyd's answer is yes about fighting Manny, then Todd will ask for Floyd's expressed permission to call his criminal lawyer. Todd will ask the lawyer if he can be sure if Floyd will be available, not on trial or otherwise occupied, on specific dates."
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, already has started the yapping in the wake of Saturday’s impressive performance by his fighter. Margarito is a former world champion who had nearly 20 pounds of extra weight, along with a notable height advantage over Pacquiao.
“Mayweather has ducked Margarito in the past," Roach said. "I'm sure this put more fear into him and puts him even further away from wanting to make this fight."
"Floyd will fight when he's ready to fight. I hope it's now time," HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said. "Isn't there a saying that the third time's a charm?"
If the Mayweather fight doesn’t happen it appears the leading candidate to fight Pacquiao next is Juan Manuel Marquez, assuming he gets past Aussie Michael Katsidis on Nov. 27. Marquez would likely have to bulk up to 140 for a third bout with Pacquiao, with whom he has drawn with and lost a split decision to. Marquez rose to welterweight and lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Mayweather in September 2009.
“I'd like to fight Marquez one more time because I'd like to shut him up — but at 147," said Roach. "That's the weight we want to fight at. So if Marquez wants to fight us, that's where we'll do it."
