For the past 3 years, Real Madrid has dominated the Champions League, winning the competition 3 straight times (the first club to do so). The Madrid outfit will have it harder this season, however, as there are many challengers eager for the title. Real has also lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, so their chances on winning the competition for the fourth time in a row have taken a considerable blow.
Who are the biggest challengers for this year’s title? Let’s find out!
Barcelona
Barcelona is always going to be among the top 3 favourites for the CL title. The Catalan team was shockingly ousted by a brave Roma side in the quarter-finals last year, so they will be undoubtedly looking to win it all this season.
Boasting an impressive squad which includes the legendary Lionel Messi and newcomers such as Phillipe Coutinho, Barcelona will surely attack the title right from the beginning. They are among the heavy favourites for the 18-19 CL title at sports betting sites and there’s no reason to believe otherwise. Valverde’s team has surely learned a valuable lesson from last year’s experience and will be looking to fix the mistakes that probably cost them the title.
Barcelona’s chances for this seasons Champions League stand somewhere around 6/1.
Juventus
With 2 finals in the past 4 seasons and a controversial semi-final loss to champions Real Madrid last season, Juventus have been only a step away from European glory in recent years. This year they decided to do something about it, shocking the football world with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.
With a scintillating attack and dominant midfield, Juventus looks a formidable side and there won’t be any teams pleased about meeting them, especially in the knockout rounds. Rumours say that the Italian champion hasn’t ended its spending spree – if they manage to add another star to their squad, their chances will go further up. Juventus’ odds for winning the 18-19 CL are currently somewhere in the area of 6/1.
Manchester City
It’s fair to say that City didn’t have the luck to play a CL final in the past few seasons. Last year, Manchester City was defeated by Liverpool led by Mo Salah in the semi-final – if they progressed to the final, Real Madrid’s European hegemony might have been stopped.
Still, Pep Guardiola has managed to create a great team and it was obvious how much the team has grown last year. With new additions such as Riyad Mahrez and more than a month to go until the transfer window closes, we have no doubt that the Citizens will be among the main challengers for Real Madrid’s throne.
Manchester City is among the top favourites for the CL title at most major bookies, with the same or more favourable odds than Barca or Juventus.
