After winning the World Boxing Federation North American title last December, Atlanta’s Paul “The Truth” Delgado is ready to step things up on July 21 at the Buckhead Theatre in his hometown when he takes on New Yorker Mike “El Cangri” Ruiz for the vacant WBF Intercontinental Super Welterweight championship.

The fight will be the headliner of a show promoted by Delgado Boxing Promotions, in cooperation with Mezereon Management, that will also feature a long line of local up-and-comers on the undercard.

Paul Delgado, 26-11-1 (4), came up short in a world title-challenge against Jan Zaveck in Slovenia last year, and his quest for a new shot at world honors was kicked off with a decisive unanimous decision over “Modern Day Warrior” Ruben Galvan for the North American belt seven months ago.

After an impressive fifth round knockout victory over Dereck Chisora, David Haye wants to go head to head with the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. However, things between both the fighters are not good enough to come to a conclusion.

Haye blames Vitali Klitschko for backing off from the situation, whereas Vitali’s camp accuses Haye for doing the same.

“David Haye was supposed to be at this press conference. He had a concrete offer for a fight in September and he refused. He turned down a fight with Vitali Klitschko in favor of one with Chisora,” said Vitali Klitschko in his recent press conference.

Bolton proud Amir Khan is still trying to recover from Garcia’s massive hook that knocked him out in the third round. Khan, who thought he would win the fight, lost control in the third round and fell prey to Garcia’s blows.

“I've not had time to be upset. I was thinking on the plane on the way home it would have been great to win all those titles and bring them home. Everyone was rooting for me to do that, but it just wasn't my time,” said Khan when asked if he is upset over the defeat.

The fight was held on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Khan won the first two rounds and was seemingly in good shape just when a left hook from Garcia took him down in the third round. The sight was as appalling for spectators as for Khan, as he did not see the punch coming.

After knocking out Dereck Chisora in the fifth round, David Haye has regained his confidence and fun club. The Briton is proud of his victory but at the same time grieved over fellow Briton fighter Amir Khan’s knockout loss to Danny Garcia.

Nevertheless, Haye has not abandoned Khan as Carl Froch did. Instead, being a senior fighter, Haye has shown support towards Khan, claiming the former WBA champion has a lot left in him to offer.

At only 22-years-old, undefeated WBO Junior Lightweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0) will be making his second title defense this Saturday night against contender Vicente Escobedo (25-5). Broner has said that this will be his last fight as a Junior Lightweight and he will make the move up to Lightweight for his next bout.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Broner is the -1400 heavy Bovada favorite in this fight, taking on an opponent who has a record of 5-2 over the last three years. At 30-years-old, Escobedo gets his title shot following four straight wins, three of which were at 130 pounds. A former Olympic gold medallist at 106 pounds, Escobedo is now past his prime in a division of lightning-fast competitors. It’s now or never for the challenger against what is likely his toughest opponent to date.

Broner has been a beast at 130 pounds and will be coming off three straight KO victories. With 19 of his 23 victories coming via KO the champion has dominated all comers, many of whom were seasoned fighters when Broner was still a teenager.

Keys to victory for Broner are to do what he does best. He will wear down his opponent with a torrid pace and heavy punches until they can’t take it anymore. If he’s able to beat Escobedo to the punch he will dominate in convincing fashion for his 24th straight win.

Keys to victory for Escobedo will be to stay patient and use timing to land a big shot that could turn the tide of the fight in his favor. Broner has been predictable in his fighting style so far in his career, and if Escobedo can find a way to exploit that he will have a chance to end the champ’s winning streak and take home WBO Junior Lightweight belt.

Adrien “The Problem” Broner created serious problems in and out of the ring for Californian Vicente (Chente) Escobedo, enough for Escobedo’s trainer Joel Diaz to finally throw in the towel and end a lopsided beatdown in Cincinnati at 2:42 of round 5.

The fight came after a day of drama in which Broner failed to make weight on Friday, then failed to make a second weight agreement on Saturday, creating several hours of negotiations before Escobedo’s camp finally agreed to the fight in exchange for an increased purse.

Broner ended up weighing 145 at the time of the fight; Escobedo weighed 140. A lightweight fight, this was not. These were light welterweights masquerading as lightweights. It’s time to end debacles like this one by returning to the day of the fight weigh-ins.

Joe Calzaghe’s father and trainer Enzo Calzaghe wants to train British-Pakistani fighter Amir Khan to victory. Khan, who is already considering to make amendments to his training camp, now has an option.

Enzo Calzaghe’s son and fighter Joe Calzaghe is an unbeaten former world champion. In other words, Enzo has solid proof he can train any fighter to be the same.

“People say he should quit but I don't think he should be quitting. I believe with the right trainer – and my CV speaks for itself – he will be unbeatable I would love to train the kid,” said Enzo.

He added, “My next goal is to talk to Khan and his team. We spoke before, about three years ago. I have always believed Amir is a great fighter, despite what people think.”

This might just be the right moment for Enzo to pitch in. Amir Khan has already spoken of changing his trainer.

IBF super-middleweight titlist Carl Froch wants to go head to head against Kelly Pavlik in Nottingham. The Briton wants to persuade Pavlik to have the fight in Nottingham, as he believes it will be best for his fans.

“Pavlik has been calling me out, so I'd like to shut him up. If we can get him over to Nottingham, that's one that fans would want,” said Froch in his recent interview to BBC.

He added, “He's just one name, and there are a couple of other names that Eddie's looking at. We're looking at 3 November, or 10 November - they're the two dates that have been pencilled in. It gives me an opportunity to fight again in Nottingham and to defend the IBF title. So we're trying to find a feasible opponent - someone who's decent and ranked in the top five in the world.”

Froch defeated Lucian Bute of Canada in Nottingham to grab the IBF title. It was Bute’s first ever title defence match outside his hometown and he lost. Bute has been criticised for being a fighter who cannot take pressure from spectators. Therefore, all his major wins have been in his hometown.

British and Commonwealth heavyweight titlist David Price is set to face Audley Harrison on October 13 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

“Audley was an inspiration to me when I was younger, someone our amateur squad always looked up to,” said Price who is excited to defend his title for the first time.

“He called me before Beijing to offer advice, which I'm grateful for, but he's still getting flattened,” he added.

Price and Harrison have more or less the same qualifications. In 2008, Price claimed an Olympic Bronze medal in Beijing while Harrison won a gold medal 12 years ago in Sydney.

Enzo Maccarinelli, the former WBO cruiserweight champion, is ready to knockout the publication that has cost him his career’s six precious months via suspension.

According to recent tidings, Enzo is looking forward to drag the magazine, which falsely published a banned substance as a best supplement for fighters, in the court for legal action.

As per the details available in the media, Maccarinelli, who was given a somewhat clean verdict for not using the banned substance deliberately, is raged at the deterioration of his reputation and integrity.

Enzo gave a sample for testing after his bout with Shane McPhilbin. The procedure is quite normal and as per Enzo’s own words he has gone through 20 plus drug tests. Shockingly the results revealed the presence of MHA in Maccarinelli’s body.

The War” between former two time world champion Rafael Marquez and former super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. on August 4 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, has been postponed due to an injury suffered by Marquez in his right hand.

We have the same situation in 2010 when Marquez was going to fight against Juanma Lopez. He suffered an injury and the fight was postponed from September to November”.

After partying all night following his knockout win over Danny Santiago on Wednesday, three-time world champion Danny Green will party some more before deciding on his boxing future.

Green's fifth-round demolition of Santiago was the West Australian's final bout in Perth and the 39-year-old is yet to decide whether to extend his glittering career.

In all likelihood, Green will have at least one more bout before hanging up the gloves, with a match-up against 28-year-old WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov on the cards.

But for now Green just wants to relax and enjoy his latest triumph, which took his record to 32 wins (28KO) and five losses.

The much-anticipated showdown between undefeated International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KOs), of Tallahassee, Fla., and popular hometown favorite and former World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight titleholder Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs), scheduled for August 11 has been postponed to a later date due to a right-hand injury sustained by Pascal during a sparring session 1½ weeks ago.

“To tell you the truth, Pascal said at yesterday’s press conference in Montreal, “I was so sad when the decision was made that I even cried. This is the first time it’s happened to me for a fight. I haven’t fought in 15 months and this was a golden opportunity for me. Thanks to everybody involved for rescheduling. This will make me stronger when I get in the ring.”

The “Shock Wave In Montreal” undercard, featuring an IBF super middleweight title eliminator between Canadian knockout artist Adonis “Superman” Stevenson, (18-1, 15 KOs), of Montreal, and United States Boxing Association (USBA) champion Donovan “Da Bomb” George (22-2-1, 19 KOs), of Chicago, Illinois, has been postponed until late August or early September.

With WBC Welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of action for a while (i.e. in jail), Golden Boy Promotions has lined up an interim title fight this weekend between former Lightweight champ Robert Guerrero and undefeated power puncher Selcuk Aydin.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Guerrero (29-1-1-2 18 KO’s) earns his shot at the title following a 15-fight unbeaten streak that included many of the top Lightweights and Featherweights. Still considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, Guerrero will look to add another title to his achievements and continue the pursuit of a big-money payday against Mayweather in the future.

Aydin (23-0 18 KO’s) has been a wrecking machine in Europe but has yet to prove himself in North America. In only his second fight in the United States, Aydin has earned a title shot and will be looking to land power shots to beat down his opponent for a KO victory.

Aydin has never faced a fighter even close to the talent level of Guerrero; how he reacts to an opponent who will be much harder to hit remains to be seen. If he can handle the adversity he’s sure to face and land enough punches to gain Guerrero’s respect he will have a chance to walk out with the belt.

Guerrero had been on a 15-month rest from action as he tended to his ill wife. It will also be his first fight at Welterweight, which will make Aydin’s punches that much harder. If ring rust and size don’t prove to be factors Guerrero should have the technique to stay out of danger and pick apart his opponent for either a decision or a KO win.

RSR readers and boxing fans around the world your emails told me how much you loved my last Groupie Confession article that had yet another groupie writer named Blart come out the closet. Since then, Blart has hired a LEGENDARY boxing trainer to get his weight down on top of purging himself from the sac of Manny Pacquiao which it was so bad, rumors had it, Manny was going to have EMERGENCY SURGERY to get Blart’s lips off his scrotum. Good thing Blart came clean and Manny I am sure is thrilled to death not to have to go under the knife.

In this latest Groupie Confession, we hear from “Babar,” that has visited RSR time and time again which he discusses in his confession and also, comes clean about worshiping Manny Pacquiao in all his articles.
