According to a recent report, the top two online poker rooms, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, now control a whopping 60% of the entire industry. When you consider that the online poker industry is made up of around 500 operators, those are some pretty impressive numbers for only two combined sites.

Yea thats pretty cool u have to think as well thats were all the pro's play and how many ppl go on there sites 2 see them or try and play against them like carbon they only have about 4500 ppl on there site at 1 time or less those 2 sites have how many 15000 ppl so its pretty crazy
I started playing mostly on Pstars and FT, I now play mostly on the somewhat smaller sites. The fields are huge and being an MTT player I dont always time to play a 6-10 hr. tournament. Ive been playing on Doyles and Carbon alot lately. The feilds arent as big and alot of the gtd. tournaments have e.v.
i started playin on pokerstars but have since moved almost all my playin to full tilt.
nearly always play fulltilt
getting to like carbon now - only playing since i joined here - the reviews seemed good
forum working 😉

probably think that most new players only connection to joining a pokerroom
is televised games - not forums
so that is practically where the high percentage comes from
I am surprised that it isnt even higher
They do have the most endorsements from the Pros

After Pitbull closed up and took some of my money, I'm staying with FT and PS. Until it's regulated, nothing is in place to stop someone from flat-out stealing your deposit.
I would stick to playing on the large sites(Full Tilt, Poker Stars, AP, ect). They will weather the storm.
The smaller sites/networks are going to go broke or get swallowed up.
Full Tilt currently has the best bonuses and promotions.

Only 60%? I would've figured a bit more than that considering that, at least in the US, almost no other room or network does any mainstream advertising. . .
Any clues as to what the 60% refers to? Number of active players? Revenue generated? Being interested in statistics I'm always annoyed by statements like "60% of market" w/o defining what "market" means. . .

I agree with you. that is annoying when comments like this are so vague.
Also if it refers to players does that include those of us who are signed up with FT and PS (and who isn't, -trust me you are in a very small minority) but mostly play elsewhere now?
I love Reefer - I keep winning there - That helps
If you like both sites then play both sites......In my opinion they are equally just as good. I mean poker is poker.
I personally like when the fields are small enough to play at but for the larger field tourneys I prefer Full-Tilt and mostly I play at Bodog for the small fields of players.
The bigger sites Full Tilt and PokerStars seem to have a greater variety of games than the smaller sites. Also some events at the smaller sites (e.g., Ultimate Bet, AP) seem not to fill up except on the weekends.
Yeah, I do wish some of the smaller rooms -- say the Cake network rooms -- would offer up a few more variations. I do like a change of pace every now and then. And it couldn't hurt them in trying to attract players away from the two 800 pound gorillas. . .

The numbers don't surprise me much, like stated above the advertisements and pros that play for them 2 sites attract a lot of attention. i would guess the 60% refers to players, the revenue percentage is probably even bigger.

here's what i got when I looked into the stats:
"Just a year ago, PokerStars and Full Tilt were already claiming 50% of the overall market share. Being the two largest online poker rooms in the business, both accepting US players, it was only a matter of time before the percentages jumped to 60%.
What this essentially means is that of all online poker players, from every region of the world, 60% of them play at either PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker."
think this may answer your question!
