A flurry of emails and phone calls to Massachusetts legislators by Poker Players Alliance (PPA) members successfully caused the authors of an expanded state gambling bill (HR 3954) to remove the clause buried on page 41 which would have made playing online poker a criminal offense with 2 years in prison and/or $25,000 fine.

US Representative Barney Frank has announced that he will introduce legislation later this month that, if passed, would establish a new licensing and regulatory framework for online gambling operators.
