Bad News for US Online Poker Players

Whilst a new bill going through the legislature in Massachusetts USA will open up live casinos in the state, it provides little respite for online poker players. One section of the bill makes it a criminal offence to gamble online and poker is explicitly included in the ban.

The Poker Players Alliance has been working hard with the legal bodies in Massachusetts precisely to avoid this situation, but it seems that their efforts have fallen on stony ground despite the fact that they had previously announced that poker would not be banned.

(Presumably the reason for the ban on online gambling is to keep all these revenues within the state of Massachusetts. To face imprisonment for playing poker online is crazy.)

Any indication as to whether these transgressions are going to be classified as misdemeanors or felonies? There's a few online players I'm aware of up in that area. Hate to think that they'd one day suddenly "disappear". . .
