Do they also open their rooms to Asia or on other parts of the world?

On January 19, 2012, Criminal Court Judge John H. Wilson declared in People v. Feng that “the court declines to declare Mah Jong to be a per se ‘contest of chance.’ ” Although Judge Wilson ultimately allowed a charge of promoting gambling to go forward, his findings have significant implications not just for the game of Mah Jong itself, but also for other popular games, like poker, which have historically been viewed to constitute illegal gambling.
The application offers a single-table presentation similar to what online poker pros would call a hand history replayer, but the information can be customized to play against programmed statistical players. You can choose to play one hand at a time or simulate a number of hands.
Easy Poker Simulator is absolutely free to download and, although support is not included, it can still provide quite a bit of entertainment to a beginning poker player or someone who is not familiar with the rules of the game. You can even label your opponents and make up their names.
Even seasoned online pros will enjoy a break from the grueling demands of constantly making decisions and analyzing statistical data. With Easy Poker Simulator, program your own locally run "flipament" and sit back and watch the simulator do the rest.
Instead of tilting off a significant portion of your bankroll, give Easy Poker Simulator a whirl and laugh when your pocket aces get cracked by any number of random hands. Features include the ability to train by seeing two opponent hands at the same time while cards are being dealt and the ability to view the cards remaining in the deck in a particular hand. Get together with a couple of friends and exchange advice on what the best action would be with pocket jacks facing an all-in pre-flop raise. Then, run a number of simulations to see the eventual results. The results are all in good fun and for entertainment purposes only, as there are no real money statistical analysis tools that would influence live action at a real poker table.
There are a number of options available for those who download it, and the application comes in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Up to eight players can be simulated at a time and you can even choose to go heads-up. The ability to select the number of seats occupied can be accessed through the program's menu. Once all of the virtual players are seated, you can run one or multiple simulations depending on your preferences.
In the PokerSoftware forum thread, Easy Poker Simulator creator “JRS” made reference to the work he put into the application, saying he has "enjoyed the challenge" from a developer's prospective. He also added that there are still a lot of improvements to be made and that the task of programming and implementing updates is a job he's performing solo. The simulator is created in Visual Basic, but “JRS” has also taken time to learn Java in order to update the application down the road.
Stay tuned to PokerSoftware for the latest software rollouts.
Titan Poker upgrade
Titan Poker upgraded its software on Monday, bringing a fresh new lobby design, a user-friendly navigation bar, quicker loading and performance capabilities, and a bonus redemption and points progress bar to make it easier for players to keep track of their results.
The online poker room said the immediate reaction from players was overwhelmingly positive, but offered those who don't like the changes an easy way of switching back to the old mode (click on options > lobby view > mode). Titan also promised more improvements and new features soon, which leaves players with a lot to look forward to.
Win seats at Cannes, Nottingham
In more good news for Titan Poker players, the site is offering the winners of two weekly Super Satellite tournaments with seats at upcoming poker tournament in Cannes, France, and Nottingham, England.
Players who qualify for the Mega Series Nottingham 2012 Main Event in March will each receive a 1,500 euro prize package, including buy-in, flights, spending money and accommodation. A similarly attractive 1,250 euro prize package is on offer to those who win a chance to play poker at the beachside resort of Cannes.
Haughey's got a history of such generousness: the British businessman (who has made his fortune through his own City Refrigeration Holdings) has donated over £5 million to various charities and thinks that the bracelet might be an "in" to raising more for them through the world of poker.
When asked how he was planning on doing that, Haughey responded: "Since I purchased the bracelet, I've never had it on and I never have my picture taken with it. It has been in a safe, and what I would like to do is maybe protect the integrity and the worthiness of the bracelet. I would like to discuss with the World Series of Poker if they would take the bracelet as a gift from me and keep it in the Hall of Fame. Maybe they could strike a one-off bracelet in Europe next year for charity. I could pick a charity of my choosing and they could pick one of their choosing. I think it’d be great for the poker community. Not everyone gets a chance to win a bracelet, so maybe we could do something online for a couple of hundred bucks and raise like $400,000 or $500,000."
The poker pro outlasted 658 other players to leave with $1,647,158 – his biggest cash prize ever – and title, while second placed Ken Wong, of Hong Kong, picked up $1,029,474 for his runner-up spot.
The Melbourne native’s previous biggest win arrived at last year’s Aussie Millions, when he left with $99,491 for winning the AUD$1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event, so this victory really is a massive leap forward for Speidel.
That’s not all, though, as Speidel enjoyed an astonishing fortnight that also saw him take second in the AUD$1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Shootout for $25,479 and sixth spot in the AUD$1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Bounty tournament for $16,472.
Aussie Mile Krstanoski Takes Third Place
A second Aussie filled third place, with Perth’s Mile Krstanoski cashing for $627,979 while Sweden’s Mohamad Kowssarie – a high stakes poker specialist – exited in fourth for $416,937 and another home player, Patrick Healy, hit the rail in fifth for $308,842.
The top 10 was completed by sixth-placed Hong Kong pro Yin Li for $236,779, Canadian duo Yann Dion (seventh for $175,011) and one-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Daniel Idema (eighth for $128,684), Team PokerStars Pro Lee Nelson (ninth for $128,684), of New Zealand, and a fourth Aussie in Janis Lesinskis (10th for $102,947).
Only seven players returned for Day 6 of the main event, resulting in one of the shortest conclusions to any final table recently – just seven hours – as Speidel accounted for an incredible five of the six eliminations.
Speidel enjoyed a fantastic final day, taking out his last three opponents to lift the title, secure a massive pay day and ensure that the crown stayed in Australia after he followed up fellow Melbourne pro David Gorr’s win last year with his own success.
Top 10 payouts from the $10,600 buy-in Aussie Millions main event
1. Oliver Speidel (Australia) – $1,600,000
2. Kenneth Wong (China) – $1,000,000
3. Mile Krstanoski (Australia) – $610,000
4. Mohamad Kowssarie (Sweden) – $405,000
5. Patrick Healy (Australia) – $300,000
6. Yin Li (Hong Kong) – $230,000
7. Yann Dion (Canada) – $170,000
8. Daniel Idema (Canada) – $125,000
9. Lee Nelson (New Zealand) – $125,000
10. Janis Lesinskis (Australia) – $100,000
Not a contest of chance
New York state Criminal Court Judge John H. Wilson, who was overseeing the People v. Feng case in which two Mahjong players were accused of promoting gambling and possessing a gambling device, declared in his ruling that Mahjong is in effect a "contest of chance."
Although the judge did eventually allow the gambling charges to proceed, his findings and the fact he ruled the game to be one of skill and not just luck, could have positive implications for other games of skill like poker which have often been viewed by legislators and the courts as constituting illegal gambling.
Play Mahjong online too!
Mahjong may be the most ancient of table games, with a history going back to the time of Confucius around 500 BC. But that hasn't stopped top online casinos from offering it to their customers, often under the westernized version Mahjong Solitaire, or in its alternative western form of Rummy.
This ancient Chinese game was even showcased at last year annual Poker in the Park festival in London, where a Mahjong dome was set up next to one for poker. One game is the most popular in the east, the other in the west, and hopefully very soon Americans will be able to enjoy both online, in a legal and responsible gaming environment.

"This month, we've got something for diehard tournament players, and something big for those who love to do damage exclusively in Ring Games," stated Michael Harris, spokesman for Americas Cardroom. "And with $100,000 in free money on the table, just for playing, Americas Cardroom is the place to play this February."
Unlike smaller races held in previous months where players had to wait until the end of the month to get paid, the $100k Points Race is made up of two separate point races—a $60 Marathon that runs for an entire month, and a $40k Sprint that pays players every week.
Online poker players who play real-money poker at Americas Cardroom will automatically participate in the $60k Marathon, earning points toward a month-long leaderboard competition that awards the top 275 players with $60,000 in prize money.
The $40k Sprint is made up of four separate $10k Point Races. It works the same way as the month-long marathon, but only points earned in Ring Games count toward the $40k Sprint leaderboard. Each week, 125 winners will share in $10,000, with first place earning $2,000.
Online poker players who miss the dealt rake method poker sites once used to calculate rewards now have a big reason to make a run for Americas Cardroom (Doyles Room). The U.S.-friendly online poker site today announced its largest monthly Points Race yet —- a $100,000 test of endurance that includes a $60,000 monthly Points Race and four weekly races worth another $40,000. The $40k Points Race, exclusively for cash game players, will use a dealt rake method to calculate leaderboard points. It's a system that hardcore grinders will love.

In a statement announcing its application to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Fertitta Interactive said it supports regulation for online poker and wants to offer the game in "a safe and well-regulated online environment."
Fertitta, which describes itself as a company that builds brands and businesses online, didn't immediately return a call seeking details.
Scott Long, publisher of the poker magazine Ante Up, said Fertitta is just the latest in a line of gaming companies that have filed similar applications with Nevada regulators. But that doesn't necessarily mean that those companies will soon be offering the game.
U.S. regulators have been cracking down on illegal Internet gambling. And while the legality of online poker remains a gray area, legitimate companies have stopped offering it, Long said.
Even so, Nevada last year approved a bill that would allow companies to offer online poker within state borders, but it assumes that the federal government will pass a bill allowing it, Long said. While Nevada gets ready just in case, the federal government's next move is unclear.
"At this point, I don't think anything's going to happen with these applications except them being approved," Long said.
Scientific American
"We want to keep Utah free from the negative impacts of legalized gambling," said Sandstrom, a lifelong resident of Utah who is known as a staunch Reagan conservative. "Without courageous leadership to block Internet gaming, Utah could see Indian casinos popping up statewide in just a few years."
The bill would prevent Internet gambling, as well as gambling on handheld devices. In addition, it would prohibit Indian casinos from entering the Utah market. The introduction of the bill was made in response to another bill introduced by the state of Utah, H.R. 1174. This bill is being reviewed by the U.S. Congress and allows states to legalize online gaming unless they choose to opt out, which is what Sandstrom is trying to do.
"Utah is only one of two states that prohibit any form of gambling, Hawaii being the other,” Sandstrom said. “Unfortunately, this could change soon because Hawaii is currently considering legalizing gaming, leaving Utah to fight the principled fight against legalized gambling on its own."
The study was a resounding success. The U.S. Online Poker Survey© was completed by over 82% of visitors resulting in over 8,000 responses. Respondents represented all 50 states as well as Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico and 10% of those who completed the survey were female. Moreover, 2,400 respondents provided valuable information and feedback related to the law enforcement crackdowns on Black Friday and explained how it could potentially influence their future poker play and wagering decisions.
The results illustrated various behavioral aspects of the online poker player and yielded surprising information about the link between online poker and lottery sales. Many states have expressed concern that licensed and regulated online poker would cannibalize lottery revenue but the survey showed this is not true. The results from the survey clearly illustrated that U.S. online poker players tend to play the lottery but do so conservatively and their poker play has little effect on their lottery purchases. The survey also showed that poker players would prefer to play in a regulated, safe environment and are not deeply concerned with paying taxes on poker winnings.
"We couldn't be more excited about the results," Larry Gibbs, VP of Research at US Gaming Survey replied. "The information from this survey has helped all involved understand the benefits of licensed and regulated online poker. It clearly shows that poker players want regulated online poker and are willing to abide by federal or state preferences to get it. The resulting information and detailed analysis will undoubtedly support the PPA's effort in urging the U.S government to legislate online poker in the near future."
To receive more information about the results of the survey or to learn more about the U.S. Online Poker Survey visit their website at USGamingSurvey-com - National Wagering Survey.

About The Poker Players Alliance
The Poker Players Alliance (Poker Players Alliance) is a nonprofit membership organization comprised of over 1,000,000 online and offline poker players and enthusiasts from around the United States who have joined together to speak with one voice to promote the game and to protect poker players' rights.
Subject: Poker, who has provided many of the details regarding the GBT/FTP deal, reports that Ferguson is allegedly holding up any further movement over the deal because of money that he put towards the site following “Black Friday.” According to S😋, the former World Champion accepted just under $60 million from Full Tilt since 2007, which he put into different bank accounts under the Pocket Kings, Ltd., umbrella. Although he withdrew and spent about $45 million of that money, what Ferguson is looking for is allegedly the remainder, $14.3 million, after a rather ill-advised move.
According to the S😋 report, Ferguson allowed that $14.3 million to go back into the Full Tilt accounts to take care of expenditures by the company post-Black Friday. While allowing this money to go back to FTP, Ferguson allegedly felt that this “good will” gesture would put him at the front of the line as a potential owner under the revamped Full Tilt Poker, in whatever form. This, however, would prove to be wishful thinking.
Negotiations with the U. S. Department of Justice by Groupe Bernard Tapie have allegedly resulted in the federal authorities approving the deal for GBT to buy Full Tilt Poker, but with a caveat: that none of the current ownership of Full Tilt Poker be allowed to have even partial ownership of the company post-deal. This is the current hang up, according to S😋, and it could be some time before there is a compromise made.
Ferguson and his attorney, Ian Imrich, have requested an accounting of the Full Tilt books and, as of today, have not received this accounting. S😋 reports that Ferguson and Imrich have threatened to file lawsuits to create a “constructive trust” (a trust set up by the court to benefit a party that has been wrongfully deprived of its rights in business dealings) and to file for injunctive relief against Full Tilt Poker. These actions would potentially delay the plans for Groupe Bernard Tapie to take the helm of the Full Tilt ship, delaying payment to potentially thousands of players around the world (U. S. players, under the deal with the government, would be paid by the Department of Justice).
Subject: Poker appropriately ends this discussion by stating, “(We) would like to make it clear that we have no reason to believe that the above threats (by Ferguson and his attorney) have in any way been successful in stalling or impeding the (GBT/FTP) deal.”
As expected, the backlash in the poker community has been fervent and, for the most part, entirely against Ferguson and his attorney. On the Two Plus Two forums, poster ‘Carthac’ stated, “I really want to react with a rational response to this, but what can be said of his actions besides of them being pure greed. This man not only shamed himself with FTP, put 100′s of millions of dollars of player money in jeopardy because of his extremely dishonest, greedy, and immoral actions, but now he wants to stand in the way of possibly recuperating and refunding his customers because of personal monetary issues from his former company? What complete scum of the earth.”
On the Pocket Fives forum, poster ‘maxtinder’ says, “Chris Ferguson should be extremely embarrassed that he plays poker,” while another poster, ‘emptypockets,’ writes in his post, “Just lost all respect for Jesus…no pun intended.”
This is just the latest is what has turned out to be a Shakespearian tragedy for what used to be the second largest online poker site in the industry. As of now, there are hopes that Groupe Bernard Tapie is still involved in the purchase of the assets of Full Tilt Poker, but each day that goes by without closure only incites the ire of the online poker community even more than it already has reached.
