Two Korean online gambling webmasters have been arrested for DDOSing over 100 other online gambling webmasters websites in order to grab all their new online gamblers for themselves! It seems that even in the online gaming industry you will find yourself dealing with corruption and dirty dealings. These two men were arrested last week for launching a cyber DDOS attack against over 100 online gambling websites on behalf of a criminal gang.
The 32 year old webmaster named Lee, the owner of a server co-location company who was hosting a gambling website ran by the Incheon based criminal syndicate and a hacker named Park who was managing the site under the supervision of Yeom a 34 year old high ranking gang member, launched a DDOS attack sometime in November of last year against rival online gambling websites in order to drive all the gamblers to their own business. Renting a “botnet” of 50,000 infected computers from Chinese hackers; Yeom asked Lee and Park to carry out the planned DDOS attacks. This all took place between Nov. 21st 2011 and Dec. 15th 2o11, these attacks took place for a period of about 2 hours a day, every day. Also between the 23rd of Nov. and Dec. 10th Lee launched an attack against a job-seeking site that refused to do business with his company.
The Prosecutor in the case said this is the first time to his knowledge that a crime ring has hired a professional hacker to carry out a DDOS attack.
