Good news for French advertising agencies

Following the legalisation and regulating of online gambling in France, advertising agencies in the country have seen a huge rise in business.

France is the latest nation to begin regulating online gambling and whilst there are complaints about the tax levels and additional levies imposed by the authorities, anyone involved in the advertising industry within France is looking forward to the work that newly licensed operators are sure to bring them.

The head of France’s Professional Advertising Regulatory Authority Stéphane Martin said, “Market openings, as happened with the telecom or energy sectors, always create new business as they often become major advertisers in order to gain market share. Existing companies [former monopolies] will defend theirs and this is a good thing in a market economy. The online gaming industry will work in such an environment."

At the end of June another round of licenses were granted to operators including PokerStars and PartyGaming. Of course, these are not ‘new’ operators and they have been accepting bets from French customers for a number of years, however, the advertising and sponsorship opportunities are now far greater.

Until now operators have had to be creative to in order to make sure that they were not breaking the law. One website had its players depositing money and then playing the games for tokens, afterwards these tokens could be exchanged for real cash.

In the two weeks following the change in legislation, the money spent on advertising by gaming operators in France shot up to 14 million Euros. According to the Paris consultancy agency Kantar Media in the period from June 8th – 13th Bwin spent the most on advertising with PMU and FDJ closely following. However, in the next week both PMU and FDJ were spending more than Bwin and together they accounted for over half of the total 14 million Euros spent.

Advertising on the internet continued much as it did before, but there was a huge rise in television advertising. There was also the first outdoor advertising campaign.

I heard today via APCW weekly broadcast that France was blocking all poker sites that were not liscesned in France. So,if every site has to buy a liscense in every country they operate, this will get very expensive very fast for the sites.
You can bet, that poker players will be the people paying for this fee in the end. This is the price we will be paying for legal online poker.
Reminds me the old saying,*be careful what you wish for*

Totally right... you will then realize that what you wish for will lead you to regrets on the later part.
