Gambling advertising set to be restricted next month

Casinos have less than a month to object to government’s proposals to further restrict gambling advertising.

The Department of Trade and Industry said the changes are simlar to the restrictions placed on liquor advertising.

One proposal is that casino adverts can only be aired between 8pm and 6am.

Department spokesperson Zodwa Ntuli said casinos would still be able to sponsor competitions, but they would have tread carefully.

“You may actually broadcast without advertising but... when you do advertising you could do promotions at the same time.”

However, Ntuli added, “What is important is that the sponsorship should not be tied in with some advertising element that goes against the limitations that have been put in the regulations.”

Meanwhile, the government (states) increase their advertising budgets so they can get more people to gamble (true gambling, unlike poker). Many problem gamblers are addicted to playing the lottery. Yet they want to ban online gambling on moral grounds. Very hippocritical, is it not? 😔
