Barack Obama win Democratic nomination

Senator Barack Obama was poised last night to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination, becoming the first black candidate for the White House to be chosen by a major party in American history.

Mr Obama, who has become the most prodigious fundraiser in American political history, is likely to agree to help Mrs Clinton reduce her debts in return for the full support of her and her husband former president Bill Clinton against Mr McCain.

Senator Barack Obama and former Vice President Al Gore have joined powerful forces. Tonight, Gore will join Obama at the Joe Louis Arena in downtown Detroit for his official debut in the Obama campaign. The appearance will likely fuel speculation about a joint ticket.
